I would of put the Z axis on the knee instead of the quill since you have more fine control and is more rigid and just get a caliper for the quill.

Thank you! I’m going to use hide glue titebond to float tongue and groove solid oak over cork, thinking it will be the healthy choice as it is more natural. The wood is unfinished and will be stained with tung. At 500lbs strength, it should hold up rather well! That was key information for this uncommon situation.

What tooth count did you use on the 3 inch flat metal? 10TPI ?

I dont think anyone mounts the scales sideways most lathes will mount them in the downward position, you can change the decimal point to where you want, you do not need tape. I have had 3 of them on different machines, works perfect, The manual with mine was spot on,

That shallow socket is not doing justice. Use a deepwell socket, should zip it right off.

That's the same manual that came with my ToAuto. I mounted the scale to the cross slide on my 15x58" LeBlond and the encoder to the carriage where the follow rest would mount and I use the shield. Slot in the scale is on the bottom on both scales. Set an indicator on top of the slide and move the cross slide to level it. I only used one of those L Brackets for the encoder for the rear that mounts to the carriage. I have no issues. I can send you photos if needed.

Nice video and tests! I'm a titebibd 2 user, though I'm more on the construction side of things with trim work and and misc wood projects where rapid glueup time is much more of a concern. I also reason that the water resistance will help with overall longevity of the joints as it will resist humidity and unforeseen moisture condition though I dont have anything to back that up. If i want a longer glueup or it is for exterior work i go with titebond 3, I generally don't use titebond 1.

No thanks on more cordless. My 14v Dewalt doesn't even have batteries to buy anymore. If you're just a weekend warrior like me, I see zero reason to go cordless. Had I done this before, I'd still be drilling, not shopping.

Having the same unit on my lathe (and mill) for a few years, my experience has been positive. Installation was a tedious exercise; most of the mounting hardware that came with the kit wasn't useful for my machine, so the mounting hardware was fabricated/machined. Alignment of the scale to the axis was carefully done as well as getting the slide/head in perfect alignment with the scale. It's been a while, but I remember taking several hours getting the scales properly aligned on the lathe. My thinking is if you were to spend some time on getting the scales better aligned, your accuracy and repeatability would improve dramatically. The documentation that came with the unit was laughable. As you stated, it is an inexpensive option and as such the documentation was as expected. Nice video. However, you might be using the Irwin vice grips wrong? You seem to be inserting the wire in too far and up on the lip of the stop. I believe you should only put it up to the bottom of the stop. You can see that the wire is bending down when you’re stripping, and that’s causing it to not cut properly. I’ve been using the vice grips for about 6 years with much better results. Very much appreciate the thorough comparison though!
