I’m still using my Homemade kiln I built back in 2011 out of an old Stanley toolbox and fibre blanket. Good on ya for making a video so others can do the same. Maybe someday off-the-shelf kilns will be reasonably priced, but almost glad they aren’t so we have a reason to build our own

You’re a damn hero to everyone who wants to start glassblowing and is broke I’d say the majority of the young folks like me are. I’m 6 months in to acquiring all the Necessary equipment and buying a kiln was not looking feasible but I sure as shit know how to use a tape measure, scissors, a calculator and google. I don’t have a flapper door to park pieces, so I have one of those salon Rod heaters but it’s only so big, but I’m gonna give it a try, now I have to watch the rest of your videos cause I do like the way that you show how to do things, thanks from an old guy

Hey man, that's a really great budget kiln build! One thing I noticed is that you are using copper wire for your thermocouple leads, that's probably a big part of your temperature error. K type thermocouples require "K-Type Thermocouple Extension Wire" be used between the thermocouple and controller to read accurately, otherwise you will actually be reading some "average" temperature of the thermocouple tip and each junction where the wire type changes.

Hey Dirty, good-looking little kiln you've got there. I'm looking to build a small table-top model, and this will steer me in the right direction. I appreciate your sharing and knowledge. I have a paragon bluebird for my workhorse, but it is restricted to 5" of height. So I may explore making mine in the 10" to 12" height range for small recyclers and the like. But you've given me the confidence to proceed. In one word, "awesomeness." Peace out!

Gravity is why I want a hand torch. Sometimes, when getting to part of a joint, the only option for piece position is facing downward, fighting gravity. A real pain in the ass.
