i feel we have very similar tastes in books. the way you talk about books is so refreshing. you seem really genuine and i can feel how passionate you are about it through the screen. best of luck to you on your reading journey !!
your enthusiasm definitely inspired me to pick up a book get back into reading this year
same on the analects-i loved my readthru but deep down feel like it's best read a small section a day. when you think that scholars would've been intensely tested on it for government jobs back in its heyday, it makes so much sense thinking of it more like truisms we should memorize to live a good life rather than, say, a plot to enjoy in one sitting. almost like eating a bag of fancy candies in one go when it's best spread out/saved for later to hand out to others. wisdom potpourri lmao so excited to see your channel grow, I aspire to read as much as you!
I'm a philosophy major in college, and I've had a really complicated relationship with reading since I started to pursue my academic and career aspirations, since they both require SO MUCH detail-oriented reading. Sometimes I've grown tired of it as a hobby, sometimes it's all I've done for 6-month stretches of time. I think I've recently had another reading kick, and this one feels like it's going to stick around for longer. I think reading is such an entertaining form of media, and definitely more stimulating for me than the movies and yt videos I grew up on. Getting addicted to prose is so fulfilling, and it makes me so happy to see other people discover it!

My favorite Cudi Album! 😍😍😍
Wow, I absolutely love your energy and vibe; I'm so happy for you that you find so much joy in reading! I'm trying to get some of those classics read as well, so thanks for reminding me of that! :D
Sorry, could you keep the books away from the candle, fire and books nearby are a bad idea 😿,it seems dangerous that you always do that, sorry for my english. Lo siento, ¿podrías mantener los libros alejados de las velas, el fuego y los libros cerca son una mala idea 😿, parece peligroso que siempre hagas eso.
You made me want to start reading again!! Can’t wait to read your recs!
i love the way u talk about books and inspire me, i found you on tiktok so when i saw you had a youtube i wanted to support your goals
Your passion is so contagious!!! You have very quickly become my favorite person to listen to discuss books/reading. Your love for it comes across so genuinely that after your videos I am sooo hungry to read!!!
read 1984 if you haven't, similar to fahrenheit 451 but imo better executed (also really sad ending)
PLEASE do a read along! Even just post what book youre reading so i can try and keep up!
I’ve been reading regularly again for about a year now and somehow you’ve made me want to get even more into it. Your passion is contagious
you should read the prophet by kahlil gibran!!!
I could listen to this man talk about books for hours this is so refreshing, I've been looking for a channel like this 🥰
Kafka was also my first "he gets me" writer! Your enthusiasm is so palpable, I was listening to this more like a podcast while making breakfast and when you would get hype about something I would smile and laugh because your passion is delightful
Yeaaaah...I like you. You have this feeling that anyone can sit down and talk with you and you would just click with them. I like that.
Dope posters
You and @parkernotes would be great to watch in a discussion
All I can say is wow! Your delivery kept me on the edge of my seat. Keep reading and sharing the joys brother. #newsubscriber
If you loved Dostoevskiy and his takes on loneliness, you're gonna love Tolstoy's short stories. His characters are so aware of what they are it's heartbreaking.
Im so glad the algorithm gave me this video. This is so exciting, I'm started reading more only a couple of years ago, so i still haven't read a lot of classics mentioned here. This makes me more excited, thank you.
I saw in your first video that you loved "sad" books with themes of loneliness and alienation. I think No Longer Human by Osamu Dazai is a perfect book for you. I definitely need to warn you that there are very drak/serious themes and events that happen in the story but i think you will love the book. Its a fictional story but its kind of an autobigaraphy because it is based on Osamu Dazais own life. Also keep up the great work i love your vids
I JUST FOUND YOU....😊❤😊
I randomly bought this book one day, named Winter in July, by Doris Lessing. It’s fascinating and so singular in terms of the writing, but it’s hard to put any thoughts about it into words. Here’s an excerpt from it (that I think about often): “The woman seemed to Major Carruthers less a human being than the expression of an elemental, irrepressible force: he saw her, in her vast sagging fleshiness, with her slow stupid face, her instinctive responses to her children, whether for affection or temper, as the symbol of fecundity, a strong, irresistible heave of matter. She frightened him.” On another note-it’s nice to hear someone talk so passionately about books. It reminds me of why I love them so much myself.
Dante, truly, the way you talk about books and describe them is unlike any other booktuber I've come across. You speak on your experience reading and the content of books in a way that feels like the actual experience of reading. (Rather than the summary that captures its notion.) You talk about the way books worked through you, and/or continue to work through you. Noumena. From the tranquility of the Tao Te Ching and how authors paint in pencil and abstract. You express it in such an enigmatic way that makes me actually want to read philosophy. (Which is not a genre I gravitate towards.) Also..In FOUR MONTHS??? You are an Extraordinary Machine!! I notice and recognize the doubts you have within yourself and where you may be in this moment. Please know it's okay to have these thoughts, AND they do not align with how myself, and other people here who have expressed similar sentiments, see you. May your journey be wonderful, and may peace be upon you!!
If you really enjoy Asian authors, I would like to recommend Cursed Bunny by Bora Chung. It’s a short story collection…some stories are really horrific, but incredibly written and SO interesting! She has a new short story collection that just got translated into English and I can’t wait! 😝 Also, I love your analogies…you’re such a thoughtful person! 😊
Stop how did I only find your channel now!?!? It is honestly so refreshing to hear someone be so unbiased toward art and not “ranking” art like it so nice to hear it because nowadays it all opinions and barely anyone keeps a open eye and ear for new ideas, for a first video this is amazing keep it up man I admire your style!
how do you track your books? if you do at all, I use Goodreads, if you do have a Goodreads acc I would love to follow because the books you read are so much fun to hear about!
As someone who had the classics shoved down their throat at a young age and had to unlearn and relearn how to enjoy classic lit it is genuinely so refreahing to see someone gushing over ancient philosophers like they're modern booktok favorites, it enthuses me and my appreciation of them. So glad you've found value in them, I wish you the best upcoming reading year and hope you continue to make videos!
Your passion and excitement for reading is palpable and completely contagious. Automatically subscribed, love this!
Depressing ahh book list bruh 😭😭
im getting so nervous of the candle next to them books lol
Hi there! I absolutely love the way you talk about literature. You really have a way with words! Also this is a great first video! I subscribed and can’t wait to see more from you!
Hey! Would you be willing to list all the books either in the description or the comments? I would love to know all the books you talk about to look them up too, but some of em I can’t really hear what you’re saying!
I just started getting into philosophy books too! I'm really glad you liked Ray Bradbury's book and I recommend trying some of his less mainstream books such as October Country, Martian Chronicles, and Dandelion Wine. Those three are so, so good to me. I also recommend 1984 since you mentioned trying to get more into politics, it can help shed light on how media is controlled and reminds me a lot of modern-day North Korea. However, 1984 is a very stiff read, you really have to keep up with all of the vocabulary created within it. Keep up the reading and the videos!
Whenever you DNF a book you should say "I've sent this book to Dante's inferno"
Thank you for taking the time to break this down. You are right. You have to find the right books and writings for you. Bravo 🎉🎉🎉❤
omg dante i instantly subscribed -- im very excited to see your future videos! if you feel like reading a modern (future?) classic, please read Hurricane Season by Fernanda Melchor. she's a Mexican realist writer and the prose is fucking crazy she's a living genius. you may also enjoy Middlemarch by George Eliot since you seem to like reflective/society stuff. both 100/10. i also love philosophy -- i would definitely suggest reading an introduction to Marx/historical materialism if you haven't before. it changed my life. sorry this comment was so crazy -- like i said, really looking forward to the future of your channel lol!
I was a huge reader when I was younger, but by the end of middle school and definitely through high school, school itself really took a hit to my passion for it, and I've been trying to regain that passion for the past few years. I'll read a book or three a year, but I really want to get back into how I was before, getting so involved and finishing books in a day or so. One that really moved me recently was Song of Solomon, I felt very changed after reading... Also Annihilation did the same. Life often gets in the way, being busy with work or school or family and all that, but it's worth it to carve out a little time for yourself to immerse yourself in a book. Your passion is palpable, I can hear and feel it through the screen. Love it, let's all try our best to become better readers
6:46 bro i kid you not, i randomly picked up a book to read out of my moms hundreds of books and it was this one. this is before i even heard of your channel. i read a few pages and but i haven’t touched it in a week or so and now i hear you say this. it’s gotta be divine intervention telling me to read man. or maybe im just trippin its 2am
had never even heard of this book btw
youre so cool, and i love this video. i have come across a few of your videos and i had to subscribe.
This is fantastic. You're obviously a passionate, thoughtful and articulate person. Your reading journey will serve you well. I'm 53 now, and have always been a reader, despite growing up in a household of non-readers. I read throughout grade school, high school and university, and never stopped afterwards. I recently was 'downsized' from a position I held for 30+ years, and one of the few things that keeps me hanging on is my daily reading. I honestly can't imagine not reading. I look forward to hearing more about your reading journey; what you're reading, and how it's changing you. Cheers. p.s. Philosophy Degree here. Rare to hear someone on Kierkegaard. That's heavy material. Bravo.
Your mom and dad are active readers... Your aunt is a poet... I knew your sharpness for art didn't come out of nowhere, i imagine i'd be soo cool growing up in such environment, and even though you just started reading, you have such an articulated way of voicing your ideas! I've been reading for like three years now and cant share thoughts so clearly like you do. You are an inspiration!
Also I noticed you barely use filler words!!
This is wonderful! I love when people get into reading, or when they rediscover their love for reading ☺️
Fantastic video!⭐️
Morrrrre. Yo. What? I’m a writer with 2 literature/writing degrees, whatever that means, and I need you to know you are as clear, creative, brilliant and insightful as anyone I’ve ever talked books with. And so self-aware. Like what. Please hold that. And your tastes. New (re)reader HOW?! I’m amazed. More shares please and more power to you. 🙏🏾
P.S. didn’t love Kafka’s Amerika, but Metamorphosis is a forever fave, not boring at all. Amerika lost me. Would be curious what you’d think.
your passion is so contagious. as someone who is also relatively new to literature (~2 years) hearing your passion and journey thus far is awesome.
So happy you have memories of your parents reading, I’ve never seen a book in my parents hands ever. My daughter will have your same memories
