I have been feeding hedgehogs since I discovered them in my garden a few years ago. I get most of my hedgehog advice from Hedgehog Cabin Rescue here hedgehogcabin.info
I built 3 hedgehog houses similar in design to those sold by www.riversidewoodcraft.co.uk/hedgehog-houses/
I made a feeding station from driveway blocks and roofing felt covered plywood. It has two entrances to allow escape when hogs meet and argue over the food. I feed them Smilla kitten food only as wild animal food is not regulated. It has all they need and is cheaper than typical hedgehog food. Always with fresh water daily. I use Apeman, Victure, WiMiUs and Ring cameras. One or two at each house and the feeding station. Our garden is only small with lawn and flower borders but I plant pollinator friendly plants to encourage a natural food supply for the hogs. We live on a large housing estate next to a wild area which covers a reservoir where foxes also live.

Hedgehog Hawaii almost leaves home

Hawaii was rescued a few months ago after being caught in netting which damaged his foot. The rescue took care of him and when fit enough he was released in our garden because we feed & support wild hedgehogs here.
Nila the wild hedgehog nest building
มุมมอง 5621 วันที่ผ่านมา
Young Nila was raised from a blind hoglet in a rescue and released in our garden. She was provided with a nice clean house, filled with fresh hay but has chosen to make her nest in the pipe that I put hay in for hogs to take for their houses as required.

Nila the hoglet had a squatter move into her house yesterday but managed to squeeze in there for the day. This is the next evening.
Nila the hoglet has a dilemma
มุมมอง 1052 หลายเดือนก่อน
Nila was rescued as a hoglet whose eyes were not yet open. She was hand reared by my local hedgehog rescue and I was asked to release her in my garden because I have visiting hogs, houses, feeding station and I feed them daily with kitten biscuit and fresh water. She is a feisty little thing and very inquisitive. Cute as a button too! She has been living in this house for almost a fortnight......

Thanks for the update. Lovely to see Nila is doing so well. 😊
Has Nila recovered after her leg injury? She looks like she has. Nila is so funny making her nest in the pipe, instead of the lovely clean house you have provided. She's such a character! 😊🦔
Yes she's fine now
@@cliver8881 Oh that is good news, I'm so happy. 😄
😍😍🦔🦔
hahahaha
If only she had a paper shredder...
storm??
Haha yes that night it really was the loudest thunder I've ever heard and very heavy rain. Not on this clip though.
The hedgehog is not silly. She had a fight whit an other hedgehog here. She is careful and sniffing other smells. I don't like humans who are arrogant and degrading animals.
She has not been in a fight. This was not set up to degrade the hedgehog. It is simply a recording of what happened last night. I don't like to see animals being degraded either. eg dressing them up or posing them out of context. I called her silly for not coming down the way she climbed up, that's all. I have now added a step for her safety.
Nila 🦔 is unbelievably adorable 🦔 brilliant footage 👏
Who needs to buy a paper shredder when you have wild hedgehogs 😅🦔
I was wrong developments that Nila's home was invaded by an other hedgehog lately. I mentioned under another video that feeding/hosting wild small animals in gardens is not a good idea.
We are encouraged to feed hedgehogs in the UK due to their decline. We make hedgehog highways between our gardens for them to visit as many as possible because we have destroyed many hedges and tidy up our gardens and roadsides too much which removes their natural food. Also, this hoglet was rescued as a blind baby and when ready was released into our garden and needs support with food, water and housing until she can manage on her own.
Hi. I saw a lot of garden feeding/hosting videos of small wild animals, especially wild hedgehogs. The problem usually is the same: a garden owner starts to feed them and/or build a small house for them. A hedgehog coming from the forest and eats or moves in. The problem started when another hedgehog recognizes it, and the poor small creatures start to bother each other, sometimes sparkes physical aggression as well. Wild hedgehogs are not group animals, avoid each other territoties. What is the solution? The basic solution is to avoid feeding or hosting wild animals in a household or garden. If a resque is needed, that is another case. But never accustom any wild animal to a human life sphere. But if you don't want to release this idea, in this situation, build 2 hedgehog houses and put them in big distance from each other.
In the UK hedgehogs are critically endangered. We are many miles from a forest here. We are encouraged to make access available to hedgehogs in our gardens and linking them via hedgehog highways. We have destroyed their natural habitat and they need our help to survive. The hedgehog rescues constantly see starving hedgehogs so we are encouraged to feed them in our gardens. For more info see here hedgehogcabin.info Our gardens tend to be small so putting great distance between their houses is impossible.I have 3 houses in my garden and they are all occupied at the moment.
Newspaper to read in cozy house before going to hibernation!
None shall pass <3
😢
Yes. How serious? Did the vet check the hedgehog? It seems that the walking of the hedgie is not normal.
noooo
I love this! Thanks for doing this video and giving so much detail about what you use. This will help me so much to set up my own hedgehog rescue box.🦔😊
Oh this is so lovely. Nila was fully investigating her surroundings, she's so busy. So glad the HH rescue released them to you and happy that they are restored to health. They will have the best of care. 😊
This may interest you. My rescue named Nila and told me it means Moon in her first language. She is from India.
Sonic v. Shadow! How cute!
aww no 😢
So sad, thank you for trying to help him...
How sad 😔 🦔🙏
Lmao hedgehogs are so unnecessarily hostile sometimes 😂😂
Sad to see this little poor guy :-( i hope so much that they can help him and a big compliment to you for taking care of the little one
Yes. Small animals do not survive with broken legs. Go to the vet.
I hope his leg can be "fixed" and that he will be okay 🦔❤
Thank you <3
Lungworm is deadly without medication. How is the hedgie now?
see the description
Yes. What is the diagnosis? It's seems a serious heath problem.
see updated description
Yes. Resque is needed. What did you do? Take a plastic box with a warm cover and go with the hedgie to the vet.

Holaaaaaa pequeño y bello amigo erizo.😃🖐😍❤️😍
Please could you let me know how you have set up your rescue box? The boxes look like the brand, Really Useful. What size is the outer and the inside nest box? I would like to set up a rescue box as close to this as possible as I think its amazing. I feed hedgehogs in my garden too and I've had to take a few to my local rescue in the past. You are doing such a wonderful job caring for these wonderful creatures. 🦔Thank you.😊
Hi, yes it is much nicer for them to be kept in overnight if necessary. I have now attached a pet water bottle too (learnt from the mess made with bowls of water) I drilled plenty of large air holes around the top too. The big box is Really Useful 64L and the small one is 9L. Once they are in there I don't have to disturb them until I arrive at the rescue with them still sleeping inside. Thank you for caring for 'your' hogs too.
I FOUND YOU FAKER!!!
It's clear that this hedgie thinks this nest as his territory and keeps away the other hedgies. Maybe try to build an other hedgehog home in the garden in appropriate distance.
This is the feeding station. There are 3 houses in the garden too. He just got too comfy in there.
This is not good. Devide the food and drink in many pieces on the different places in the garden. Consult a hedgrhog expert about the garden feeding. 😢
I have tried having several different feeding spots but they still meet up and argue at times
he is back <3 ohh he wants to protect his food 😁
Hello and thank you very much for his treatment!
Thank you for doing this, keep up the good work <3
Glad you finally got him, nice one Clive
he is so cute
It's sad 😢
Good luck hunting him down.
Poor baby. Hopefully he can be helped.🤞
Pls help him
So glad he stumbled to you poor guy
Yes. Here is a medical (maybe neurological) problem. When is this record made? The hedgie needs veterinarian help. Where is the hedgie now? Could you bring this hog to the vet?
This was last night and I am trying to catch him to take him for treatment
@@cliver8881 There should be more people like you who help the little ones
@@Kensgo Simply putting a shallow bowl of fresh water out every evening could be life saving but if you can run to some meaty kitten biscuits too that would be fantastic!
@@cliver8881 at the moment we have 3 hedges in our garden 🙂 sometimes 5-7 i love them so much <3
@@Kensgo Awesome! Once they find you they just keep coming don't they?
Gorgeous sleepy bub!❤
He starts to feel himself at home.
Oh the helping hand from the sky - Shadow will definitely tell a story about it to his children 😀.
