BFGoodrich K03s vs THE WORLD (kinda) - Snow wheeling & adventure
In my last video, I gave my initial impressions on my brand new BFG K03 tires. In this video, i will be pushing them to the limits and providing comparison to a few other tires, such as the Falkens, Baja bosses, and G003s. Kee pin mind that these other rigs were not aired down nearly as much, and this is why there was such a drastic difference in performance. We all had a blast, even though people got stuck plenty of times, but that's the fun part! Comment your thoughts and ideas for the future!

BFGoodrich K03 tire review in snow! Is it better than the Yokohama G003?
มุมมอง 13Kวันที่ผ่านมา
This video is somewhat of a review of the new BFG K03 tires (285/75/16, 32.8") on my Method 703 beadgrip wheels. I was also running with a buddy on 33" Yokohama G003 mud terrains, which gave a little insight on the performance difference. We were in Washington on forest road 70 and 7174! Drones for Good

I traveled to Kenya in July of 2022 with a mission and a goal. I wanted to teach rangers at Ol Pejeta Conservancy how to use drones to combat poaching and to conduct head counts more easily. The rhino population has been hunted globally for decades all because of their valuable horn. Using drone technology, we aim to make it harder for poachers to kill and escape. I had the falkens At3 when they first came out on my 2wd f150 and did better then some guys in 4wd trucks but also in TX which im sure its not the same ice or snow but they did wonderful and i was still running like 20 psi
Great video, careful of your cv-axles...
Awesome.
Enjoyed the reverse donuts
Firestone Destination X/T performance is very interesting in the same comparison, is there any one use this tire?
not in this group unfortunately. next video is going to be me and my buddy with Baja bosses.
bizarre comparison - KO3s are a completely different offroad tyre category to the G003! Of course the all terrain K03 is going to be better in the snow than the G003s.
Not really. There is constant debate about what kind of tires are better for deep snow, AT or MT. These represent some of the best in either category. Some people strictly use the G003 for snow because it performs so we'll.
Just got new duratrac rt tires and then learned I need to replace my control arms/ball joint and struts unfortunately and I only have 57k miles on my 2016 ram but can’t wait to get out and try them more after I fix it
Duratracs are the good ol' faithfuls!
Hey!! It's Zoe from Spelab. How can I cooperate with you? Thx
contact me via email, I’d love to hear proposals
Those Baja boss ATs totally would have made it if he aired down more
@@morgan7992 I agree! But, you never know. Baja bosses have huge lugs that don't retain snow as well.
Love the vids man, keep it up!
I have KO2's on both my truck's and I hate them in ice and snow I'm not taking a chance on the new KO3's
@@JB409XX K02s are decent but not amazing. K03s are way better if you know how to use them. this video should be proof.
Air pressure!!! On my Tacoma with KO2 tires the back wheels sometimes slide side to side going up hill on snow pack roads. The problem was too much tire pressure, 35PSI. After reducing the pressure to 30 psi no more loose back tire problems.
I have low tire pressure and 100 pounds worth of sand bags when I wear these out I'm not buying them again
Holy crap that 3rd gen is clean. I have one as well and yours is amazing.
Im sure you mentioned it. What size tires are you running?
33" (285/75/16)
@sheatay2003 good deal! Love seeing you guys getting after it with a rig that's doable for a lot of folks out there.
@@codygoodrich4919For sure man! 33" tires are plenty for most offroad scenarios, it just depends how much you want to beat on your rig!

You guys are truly blessed by the seasons over there, especially winter.
I just want ko back with 19/32
@@karlh5099 These have deep lugs, not sure the exact depth. They outperform the K02 and K01 by a landslide though!
It’s crazy that you say that about the AT3W! Everyone is saying that the new AT4W is actually worse! I’ve watched a lot of show reviews on the BFG KO3 and it sounds like they’re the best bang for the buck! Thanks for the video! 🤙🏽
@@REDDEADREVOLVER1 I heard that the AT4W was supposed to be a direct competitor to the K03! If people are saying it's worse than the AT3W, then this video will back that up 😂
Great video. I recommend using the K03s as summer tires and running Hakkapeliittas in the winter. They make an incredible difference. Your car would have been able to do most of those trails in 2WD and would have made the hill climb on the first attempt.
@@tyeetamer This is my daily driver, I live in a state where you can't use studded tires on the road. They look like a great option for driving in bad conditions on road, but I don't think they'd be much use offroad. They have extremely weak sidewalls and are thin, they would most likely blow immediately, especially if aired down. They also have very small lugs, not super good for other than snow offroading. I would bet money that they'd perform much less than the K03
@ How much do you want to bet? I’m in the same area and will meet up if you want to put some money on it. You can get unstudded Hakkapeliittas in LT sizes. Why do you think they have weak sidewalls? My daily driver weighs 7k unloaded and about 8,500lbs on trips and my p-rated Hakkapeliittas do great aired down or towing a 5k lb 24ft snowmobile trailer on forest roads. My truck has 3PMSF rated AT tires for daily driving, Hakkapeliittas in the same size for winter conditions, and MTs that are a few inches taller for serious off-roading/ durability. The Hakkapeliittas are a night and day improvement over the other tires, even in deep snow. Yes, small lugs, but in the winter it’s all about rubber compound and siping. Winter tires are signed to accumulate snow because snow sticks to snow better than rubber does. Recently went out with my buddy in his 4Runner with AT3Ws in the exact same size as my Hakkapeliittas. He started getting stuck before I had even shifted into 4WD. Ended up needed to be recovered 8 different times trying to follow in my tracks before we gave up and he hopped into my truck so we could keep exploring into deeper snow.
@ Im down to compare. If you watched this full video you'd see that AT3Ws are not too good in snow apparently! If these tires you're talking about were actually good for this stuff, everyone would use them. No offense, word spreads fats in the offroad community, especially about the "best" tires. That's not the case. They look like street tires with extra siping and studs. Are they even 3 peak rated? they look fragile. not that that matters a ton but still. Never heard of em!
Y'all should make a video comparing the difference
@@sheatay2003What size tires are on your 4Runner? Yes, happy to meet up. Sometime in January? Agree that AT3Ws are not the best, but definitely middle of the pack for a 3PMSF AT tire in the snow. Just used that as a reference because they were the most recent tires I have a direct comparison with. He was not sliding off and getting stuck in deeper snow. Literally getting stuck while still in my tracks despite having higher clearance. Haha yes, Hakkapeliittas are 3PMSF rated (though that rating doesn’t mean shit). They also have the ice grip symbol, which the KO3s do not. Nokian invented winter tires. Winter tires use a special rubber compound that stays pliable in extreme cold but shouldn’t be used above 45°F. All-season tires like the KO3s need to use a hard rubber compound to hold up to off-roading in hot weather, but as the temps drop the rubber stiffens and they lose grip.
Awesome!!!
Cool video! I actually just ordered some KO3's to replace my G003 MT's the other day
I have 33" KO3's on my F150 and got to experience a little snow with them in Michigan over Thanksgiving. They worked great.
Just posted a video taking the K03s to their limit! Go check it out.
Need a bumper bud with a winch for some added get unstuck power in those remote locations. Looks super fun tho. I love my KO3s on my Tundra!
@@willishutton2420 Funny you mention it. My bumper is getting ready for paint and my winch is sitting in a box in the house! Only had this rig for a few months, it was bone stock when I bought it.
Toyota sucks!!!
This is about tires not Toyota lol. Interesting way of projecting!
Toyota is number 1 ❤️
Just bought an 06 4R after running a stock Cherokee TH for several years and a T100 before that. Looking into setting up our 4R for Southern Oregon snow, but first getting a timing belt kit put in it. New 4R’s tires will be stock size, cheapo ATs from Discount tire, to see how they do in comparison to the higher end tires.
Yes, Tacoma is basically a Corolla with no options and a forerunner is like a Camry with all the options they make different levels of vehicles some have more options than others
Man it’s time to aim those projectors lol
@@ryanpountain1 funny you mention that, I did 2 days ago 😂
@ oh good haha. That’s all I could focus on 🤣
I got a 2015 Tacoma TRD sport which means I got 4x4 but no locking diffs or anything like that. How much of a handicap will that give me taking my truck places like this. Or will it not make much of a difference
2.5 gen Tacoma’s come with A-TRAC as far as I am aware. My FJ has a rear locker but in deeep snow when stuck, it’s the A-TRAC that provides the grip not my locker believe it or not. Been high centered numerous times and A-TRAC has done the job but don’t use it full-time as it works with the ABS in conjunction with
@ the off road version has it but the sport only offers 4 wheel drive
@@jackerdman5410Gotcha. I’m currently in the market for a 12’-15’ Tacoma. Used to own a 1st gen but want to get back into a Tacoma again. Miss having the space
If you have good tires and are able to air down low, those are the most important factors. A locker is great to have, it has helped me a ton. Not a deal breaker though!
@@sheatay2003I appreciate the response and I’m happy to hear the response. I’m also from WA and have taken it on some roads over near snoqualmie pass but with winter coming I was curious with how far I could go with what I got
I need ko3s
I ran 285/75/16 G003’s and then 35x12.5R17 G003’s. One of the best snow wheeling tires I’ve ever ran and a lot of people up in Alberta swear by them for the snow. I believe both of you could have went down to about 8psi and gained a whole lot more traction. Those K03’s do look like the preformed super well! Good vid 🤘🏻
@@Y61Shorty Yes, I came from G003s on my 1st gen Tacoma and absolutely loved them. I'll probably get them again when I get a landcruiser. The K03s were at 5 PSI at the end of the video. He didn't want to go low however since he is on a stock wheel, I'm sure they would've done much better though.

Man you guys have brass balls being that close to the edge on a snowy road!! I haven't seen mud terrain tires perform all that well in snow either. Depending on elevation you could've lost more power. Great wheeling nonetheless 😄
Badass and Toyotas ❤️
SnowRunner🤘🏻 They did great, and they look awesome! Next set for my T4r 💯
KO3’s are very well made. But I still think the falken AT3w is the best
I'll have to find some to do a comparison! I'm not a fan of the 2 ply sidewall, seems more like a light tire for light duty offroading, forest roads.
They were good, but they're discontinued now and the 4w isn't as good for snow/wet.

Tires can only do so much without clearance and power. I’d say the ko3 did awesome!!!!
It's true. I only have 180HP at the crank lol. In terms of clearance, it would've saved me when I got stuck in the last portion of the vid, but it was fine otherwise.
Tires are everything in the snow, you are clueless.
@@jaymoar3561 tires are super important burt they aren't everything. Being able to air down, having lockers, having enough power to cut thru, and having enough clearance to skirt over snow are super important.
...Thanks for this snow review. I'm in northern Idaho and snow traction is a very, very big deal for me. My Gladiator is currently on the stock Falken ATW3's and it now looks like there's a set of KO3's in my future...
I love these head to head comparisons on two different rigs at the same time. Very nice.
Thanks. It was a bit unfair since his rig couldn't air down and didn't have a locker, and was manual trans, but next time I'll try to make it more fair!
Thanks for this. How do you find the road noise from the KO3s? I'm about to get all new rubber and am looking at the O3s as my choice. Cheers, from Australia
thanks for watchin! The road noise is virtually nonexistent if balanced right. I got mine balanced immediately, and they are nowhere near the noise compared to my old mud terrains
@@sheatay2003 Thanks for your reply - Legend.
I absolutely love 3rd gen 4runners, i just bought my 3rd one last week, and this ones badass, offroad bumper and winch, ome 3 inch lift kit and total chaos upper control arms, it has a sherp roof rack and rhino 270° awning and some raceline wheels. Its a 99 limited woth e locker as well. Its a badass rig, bothe my previous ones were stock so this is a big uograde!
Where did you find yours?
Always wanted a video like this! Thanks for putting it together. I've got an 2002 limited with 260k. I built drawers and a bed in the back and have camped about 300 nights in there. I'm 6'6'' and I'm able to make it work, but it definitely wasn't designed for me. haha. I put a packasport on the top for pop-up canopy and camp chairs/golf clubs etc. I don't have much mechanical skills, but if you have any questions regarding any quirks, feel free to ask. I've navigated quite a few moments of uncertainty within the last 4 years since I bought it. Cheers and have fun!
A few other things I've noticed: The 3rd gen 4runner has a one piece rear driveshaft, not a 2 piece like the Tacoma. The 4runner has a crotch vent under the steering wheel for HVAC, the Taco doesn't! Also note that this 4runner has more random buttons because of the auto transmission, like ECT and O/D. The manuals would've only had the clutch start assist button.

@@malikpata1996Haha no way, here in WA or somewhere else?
Wrong they both have horrible frames I own one and I needed the middle section re done because of salt only if your in Cali you won’t experience rust
😂 should of looked at the frame before you bought it. And if you did its your fault for not keeping up on maintenance. Everything rusts if you dont wash and coat it. I have a perfect frame and im in Washington.
The 4runner never had frame recalls, the Tacoma had numerous. Looks like your 4Runner was unlucky. Always check down under before you buy!
That is because most people don't really take care of their cars in wintery environment. It happens to every car that is in salt/snow area regardless of brand. How many people actually wash the undercarriage of their vehicles after winter or take a look of the undercarriage before winter? How many people park their car inside a garage? Unfortunately Tacomas were very popular and have a much larger community than 4Runners so Toyota end up replacing frames for Tacomas. I have owned my 1999 4Runner since 2005 and it has lived in Virginia, Maryland, New York, Utah, Montana, Florida, California, Oregon, Washington, and Rhode Island. Also drove across the eastern and western USA, Moab, Death Valley, and many others thru salt and snow. However, I do clean my undercarriage and check for rust every year as well as after every beach/ocean/off-road trip. My 4Runner's frame is solid and have not experience the frame rot that I see a lot of 4Runners/Tacomas/GXs are inflicted with, especially for a 25 year old vehicle. I treat surface rust if I ever see it, especially near the rear axle after banging on rocks after off-road trips and check for frame rot. I also keep the vehicle parked inside my garage. So unfortunately, the frame rot issue does happen to the majority of 4Runners/Tacomas left unattended by owners. But there are some that are kept in excellent condition by others who take care of their things.
Wow that 4runner is mint that’s for sure a $10k+ 3rd gen or even more with such low miles I recently bought the exact same model a 00 limited with rear locker but in black, it has 233k miles and I got it for $3500 which was a steal. If u were to keep that 4runner stock and garaged for the next 30 years it will probably surpass it’s original price of $35k which is about $65k on todays worth. Also 4runners are built in Japan which is why their quality seems to be better than the Tacoma, these 4runners were built alongside land cruisers and mk4 supras and the original Lexus models
I definitely plan to build this thing but will try to keep it as clean as possible!!
Where did you find your 4Runner ?
Interesting, I didn’t know they offered rear and center locker on these. Neat!
Can’t wait to see the new build
