How The American Dream Became Unaffordable For Americans
How The American Dream Became Unaffordable For The Middle Class
In the U.S., a salary between $75,000 and $100,000 is often seen as middle class. Yet, with a 2023 average annual wage of $59,384, many Americans struggle as living costs outpace wages. From 1979 to 2024, productivity rose by 80.9%, but wages grew only 29.4%, widening the gap.
Rising housing prices, high unemployment, and reduced geographic mobility limit wage growth, while union decline and globalization pressure wages downward. Economic policies and high licensing requirements further constrain income growth. To support middle-income families, public policies must aim to distribute economic benefits more equitably across American households.

Credit Card Crisis Is Here: DO THIS NOW !
I think it's time to make it more appealing for potential buyers. Real estate can be quite the rollercoaster! the stress and uncertainty are getting to me. I think I'll cut rents to attract potential buyers and exit the market, but i'm at crossroads if to allocate the entire $680k liquidity value to my stock portfolio?
"Overall, buyers hold a lot of the cards right now, and sellers are having to give out more concessions to close a deal." All the best, buying on sale is actually one of the best ways to invest in stocks, and advisors are ideally suited for such task
Until the Fed clamps down even further I think we're going to see hysteria due to rampant inflation. If you are in cross roads or need sincere advise on the best moves to take now with financial markets will be best you seek a fin-professional with fiduciary responsibilities who knows about mortgage-backed securities for proper guidance.
this sounds considerable! think you know any advisors i can get on the phone with? i'm in dire need of proper portfolio allocation
There are a handful of experts in the field. I've experimented with a few over the past years, but I've stuck with ‘’ Carol Vivian Constable” for about five years now, and her performance has been consistently impressive. She’s quite known in her field, look-her up.
She appears to be well-educated and well-read. I ran a Google search on her name and came across her website; thank you for sharing.
I like how everyone will talk about it but no one is doing anything about it.
Everyone gangsta till ai shows up
It's a blessing to be born poor/low income. Now as an adult making 75k-100k I feel rich. It's about state of mind and choices. If one job doesn't cover tge bills, get a second job! This is not a new concept. Poor people have done this forever
7:05 the chart is labelled incorrectly
We need a zero inflation central bank goal, not zero unemployment.
Someone should have shown this to kamala earlier
GLOOM AND DOOM PROPAGANDA: Did you notice how they ran through the chart that shows the middle class shrunk from 61 to 50%? 4% went to lower class but 7% WENT TO UPPER CLASS! Most people are better off
Sort of. It all comes down to housing costs so it's pretty simple. Those who got into a house before 2019 are doing great, those who tried to do afterwards are not. The salary needs to account for housing costs.
@ Housing prices rise and fall as do interest rates. I bought a condo in 1982 for 88k but the interest rate was 13-% so I was paying $3200 a month in todays $s then the price falls 20% . It took 10 years to recover. Over the long run it worked out but IT TAKES PATIENCE.
@@robertmeyers3640 You talking about a condo as an investment, and so high housing prices are good for you. For people who don't already have housing, high housing prices excludes them from the housing market.
@@langhamp8912 I p 7 million housing units short MAINLY because millennials and genz won’t do physical labor and units can’t get built. Look in the mirror
@@langhamp8912 That condo was my home for 22 years and for a good part of the time it was more expensive on a monthly basis than it would be now.
Shit i just got denied a loan for 130k for a mobile home that i would put down 20k and have two incomes in ca make 70k together 😂😂😂 and im paying 2300 in rent the mortgage would be 1800 total with space good old American dream
It’s crazy. I have heard similar stories. Sadly things are only going to get worse now.
@@elviscobb5922 yeah and I would drive an hour to work because it's a city that's out my area and nobody really moves there and if you do you'll drive out for work so IDK what's the problem my credit it's 680 and my parents was 740 they really didn't give us an explanation but a loan officer said it'll be easier to get a house with that type of scenario but the house out here are not in the sub $300s
It seems very wrong to use a manipulated picture of the president of Chile (Amazon guy) and other politics (Meta and MS) 😡
The irony of ads to buy more crud you don't need at the beginning of a video about how we're all broke🤔
Why is the President of Chile in the cover of this video? And former candiate and an ex minister?
the guy in the thumbnail with the Amazon box is now the president of Chile.
Middle class is $125K-$150K. The ones who make $50K are struggling. The ones who make $30K or less are in serious need...
I’m assuming you are taking household income and not individual income.
My mother closed my S.S.I now I’m unemployed and broke😖😭
Tiny homes used to cost under 50k now they are over 100k what a regular sized house used to be in Atlanta in 2004.
Who believes "the average salary for an Amerikan Worker is $59,384"? Anyone?
Maybe in Spokane
Daffy Duck. But he's only a cartoon. 😳
It's $42,000 a year and falling.
Middle class is over 100,000 at this point, nevermind 75,000. And if you have kids im not sure how you would afford them if you make under 100,000.
Move to DC area. More high income jobs vs the cost of a renovated bedroom bathroom suite on bus stops. Easier to get richer faster.❤
I am happy to wake up from the illusion I was fed growing up, about working hard in school and preparing yourself to be 'successful'. It is in part liberating to realize the world outside of the individual manipulation. They make us think we have to prove our worth to the world by working to be the top employees. I see people my age getting laid off and actually believing that it's because they did not do enough. Having said this, it is liberating to know the truth, because only from there can we actually act on the real problem. So to all the people getting laid off, there is absolutely nothing wrong with you, and your worth is not determined by how much money you help some billionaires make. I don't know the answer, maybe we keep participating in their game of chess trying to get something for ourselves and our families and try to survive with an okay life, getting distracted with daily gratifications (social media, Netflix, food, etc.) and say hey: it's not so bad, I get to enjoy things. And I guess we can. But what if we don't? After all, we forget that we are a majority. Let's snap out of the illusion. I don't have the answer yet, maybe never will. But I believe that there can be one. I've heard so many people around me affected by this and the part that hurts me the most is that they really do believe there is nothing they can do. But I don't. I believe we can do something. We need a change in how things are playing out, in our values. I read the comments saying your employers don't care about you, why should there? But here is the central issue. We should care about each other. We think we need to use others to gain money, resources and survival. But since beginning of time we survived in community, in tribes and we did so by caring for each other. I know modern society is very different to our beginnings, and this setup may not be applicable anymore. But the core values remain, you can feel it in the crisis of rising solitude, and how our generation longs for connection. It is one of the deepest psychological human values. We do want to care for each other, we want connection and we forget that the cycle of sacrificing your time and effort for money returns to the core value: to be able to spend time with the ones you love. Let's remember what really matters.
In spite of massive lay offs in private sector, the quality and quantity of applications in government tech jobs has not increased. What this means is laid off people have enough cash in savings that they will not work for lower salary stable jobs.
they went to do start ups earning more than their 9-5 jobs now 😂
it's always a shock to me when I hear "low unemployment leads to a struggling society" I learned this about 5 years ago. and You cant be serious. That is why this system is the problem.
Low unemployment means people are staying at crappy jobs longer for lack of options.
You forgot to mention where the female non swe went to. I bet they're still looking for jobs.
Well now that Trump has won these things are going to be fixed…right?
lmao 😂 these jobs are definitely not replaced by AI and robots. Source: I am tech employee of one of the mentioned companies in the video. 😂
daddy daddy what did you and mom do for a career.. son I was a blogger and your mother was a vlogger.....together we made stupid videos and content..
the tech hype, is being discovered as bullshit!!! turning taxi drivers, into rideshare drivers DO NOT COUNT AS A 4TH INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION!!!! BEAM ME UP SCOTTIE!!!! THEN WE CAN CELEBRATE
AI really destroy jobs! This is scary!
it is disheartening to hear most of their salaries are in $300k-$500k range, just dont think their value output is that great as is mostly the company brand that are creating the value bubble and not the employees. When the bubble burst creating economic crisis, it will be the commoners who were getting the meagre salaries that have to pay.
They shouldn’t be surprised when people start to commit theft to buildings
1:31 because their wasting everyone’s time. Oooh yeah Joe is gonna bring jobs back 🙄
Truth is tech is gone, but what is better? Everything got shipped off. Learn to weld is the new learn to code. In 5 years, there will be videos like this about plumbing, welding etc.
3:31 of course
Well I guess my 3 years in college for information security, is a waste.
You shouldn't use a recruiter that post them as they have no ethics. 2024 report from Resume Builder said that 62% companies posted them specifically to make their employees feel replaceable. They also made ads to "trick overworked employees" into believing that more people would be brought on to alleviate their overwhelming workload.

Most of them are still trying to figure out why Trader Joes won't hire them.
The jobs didn't go to AI they went to India and Eastern Europe
Ohhhhh gee. Build back better right ?
Why the main image of this video shows the current chilean president and the rest of their left-wing crew?
Hr , swe replaced by ai & robots ??🤣🤣🤣wtf show me the data or just spreading fake info
Moms basement 😂
AI shits out another video 💩
shouldn't we sue for false advertisement and wasting the unemployment's time to look for a job??? This should be highly illegal!!! This is what happens when you have a multi tier justice system for the rich, politicians and presidents, all 3 should be just as easy to lock up as anyone else
MAGA. Vote Trump.
Let's face it, tech jobs are dead. It's not recommended for anyone to take a computer related degree in college.
Greed is real!
No jobs = no money to purchase commodities This is the hard truth that corporations should know
It's a bit different- IT (smart companies, not with idiot managers) is still the best direction, but there is a "great accumulation of success" (like in sport), which means only a few people survive in the industry (and here's the paradox- to survive, you need to have "security" in the "safe AI" industry). It will be job for people with talents/ critical thinking (IQ > 120 and big knowleadge)/ etc. IT will no longer be available to at least 90% of people, but it will be still (and even more) the best industry (for a few). What was the best business during the war??? Produce weapons/ helicopters (for example BMW)/ clothing for soldiers/ etc.. That's obvious (now produce AI)
