Patrick Roest staat bovenaan op de Adelskalender en is dus de beste schaatser ooit!

It took a while before this record was beaten. Right now it's Ted-Jan Bloemen's 6:01.86, but I predict that in a year or two Greame Fish will break the 6-minute barrier.

@@niels6188 Look like it will be. Roest came on very strong a few years ago, and Graeme Fish was doing rather well, but it's cool to see Nils van der Poel being in a league of his own right now. A 12:32.95 10K - and that in Heerenveen and not even in Salt Lake. I know he was really gunning for 6:00.00 in Calgary, so I hope failing that didn't knock him too much, but I think we are going to see some amazing things from Nils the next few years, and hopefully Graeme Fish and Patrick Roest will give him a run for his money too, though they've not been as sharp this season yet, they will be back. The next several years are going to be a great time to be alive for long distance speed skating enthusiasts.
@@hakonsoreide For the long distances the benefits of a highland track are not as pronounced, because you have to deal with the disadvantage of the thinner air (less oxygen) as well. For the short distances you can deal with that easier because you have already finished by the time the oxygen deficit starts affecting your performance, so then the benefit of lesser air resistance is much more important.

I love how the commentators didn't realise how fast that first round of Koskela was. I think it's because of his relative calm style of skating
It wasn't that fast for a fast opener like him. Wotherspoon had done a couple of 24.3 laps before on the 1000 but usually, their second lap is 2 or more seconds slower than their first lap, which in this case it wasn't.
Yeah I agree, for a pure sprinter such as Koskela 1.4 seconds is a small margin. Still, any 600m below 41 seconds is very fast. But unlike this race, sprinters such as Kato, Ronald Mulder, Murashov, Ntab and Gao almost never go below 1:08 because of their second lap being around 27 seconds. So valid point.

Indrukwekkende race gisteren van Ted Jan. Jammer dat Sven Kramer deze wedstrijd uit de weg ging. Hij had kunnen verwachten dat zijn record zou kunnen sneuvelen met dit soort omstandigheden. Kramer heeft in het verleden vaker wedstrijden laten schieten omdat het niet paste in zijn schema, erg jammer.
En toen ging er een canadees naar 6.01.86
Bloemen bedoel je? dat is gewoon 100% een Hollander! ( woont alleen in Canada) hij heeft 100% NL Bloed! ... dus doe niet zo bij de hand...... Nederland is en blijft de BESTE op het ijs!

Gerhard-Jan Bloemen is gewoon een Nederlander hoor. Hij is daar misschien geboren maar hij heeft sinds zijn zevende levensjaar gewoon in Nederland gewoond. Voor Ted Jan is het andersom. Hij is gewoon in Leiderdorp geboren en woont pas in Canada sinds 2014.

Schaatsen is saai. Ze moeten een 100 meter race en 200 race instellen zoals bij het sprinten.

Het lijkt wel alsof Kramer iets tegen Peter Muller zegt en dat deze hem onderuit wil halen. Heb het een aantal keren terug gezien... het venijn waarmee Muller op Kramer afstapt zette me aan het denken.

a good 10 k is 2 times 5k + 20 sec so a 12.26 will be the new wr in the next couple of years. koss had 6.35 (6.34.96) times 2 + 20sec is 13.30 so my theorie is proven ;-)
