Radford Ball Turner (Hemingway Style) From Plans Below
มุมมอง 10K7 ปีที่แล้ว
A home made metal ball turner made from plans. I needed to make a thumbscrew for tightening up a shaft on the Quorn grinder, that I am still making :P So I thought this might be an opportunity to show the ball turner in action. I am not too happy with the thumbscrew I came up with so will probably make some thing else instead down the road :) Link to free plans on page 968 follow the dropbox li...
Part 2 - G0704 or Amadeal AMAT25LV home made x axis power feed testing stage
มุมมอง 1.9K7 ปีที่แล้ว
First testing of power feed for mill. Showing all speeds available. Cutter size 12mm with a 1mm doc. Feed seems to be working ok. Could do with being faster for traverse only, but speed while cutting seems good.
Part 1 - G0704 or Amadeal AMAT25LV Weiss home made x axis power feed experimental stage
มุมมอง 2.5K7 ปีที่แล้ว
This is a little raw video of me testing the power feed that I have made to fit a G0704 clone type mill. Its not finished yet. I am using a powered seat motor for the drive (Range Rover) It seems to have plenty of power so far. I am trying out a cheap Chinese import speed controller that also has a reverse switch in it. A second hand computer supply will power it. All the rest is home made from...
Twist drill sharpening jig - model engineer plan
มุมมอง 40K7 ปีที่แล้ว
Twist drill grinding jig made from plans (download link below) using stock steel. Not finished 100% as it could do with a file running over it, but function is greater than kerb appeal :P A fair bit of work to make this, including some awkward set ups in the lathe, but very enjoyable to build. The drill sharpened here was 11mm and the metal drilled was 5mm not 4mm Plans are available at the dro...
Home workshop - self build
มุมมอง 3967 ปีที่แล้ว
I built my workshop during 2014 and took some pictures of the progress. So I cobbled them together and added a bit of music and here you are :) Constructed from timber with a steel roof, both well insulated to provide a useful workshop all year around. Post questions below if you want. Music - Monkey Mind Track - The King and the Queen
Powered Hacksaw From Myfordboy Plans
มุมมอง 39K8 ปีที่แล้ว
Small demo of my home made power hacksaw. The saw is made from 17mm hex bars and off the shelf metals. It uses standard hacksaw blades which have to be modified by drilling a small hole in it. The old blade is still cutting well enough at the moment. I could add weight to the end of the saw to improve cutting speed as well as put a new blade in the frame. Head over to Myfordboys page on TH-cam ...

      Freeze the screen at 00:40; you'll see the ends of three hexagonal rods. The saw frame is attached to the middle or top rod and is guided by the lower two. The designer's build is shown without a cover here: th-cam.com/video/P5Tu_zoO828/w-d-xo.html

    I have a big three phase one at work that i was thinking of fitting a inverter so it would run off a single phase. you get a lovely surface finish from a shaper

    • @mre3820
      @mre3820 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes you are correct. It also makes nice dovetails, which are a little more stressful on a mill. I would like to run mine off an inverter but I have one of those capacitor dodgers instead

    I love your shaper. I rebuilt one which I think is a bit bigger but very similar. I have always enjoyed the gearing that produces the rapid return stroke. Looks like you were able to take a good depth of cut very impressive. Thanks for sharing

    You have done a wonder job of this ball turner. I have one suggestion that pehaps others may like to consider. That is having an adjustable stops for the rotation of your handle. You don't need to go below centre height on the outward end of a ball and you may want to have a stop for the chuck side, particually if you are turning to a shank size such as making a linkage end. Good work. love the adjustment on the same side as the tool is held.

      Thanks for comments. I'm sure there is plenty of things that could be altered. I just made the tool as the plans for an exercise 😊

  • @johnhook1467
    @johnhook1467 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    You need to lengthen the stroke and slow it down .

    • @union310
      @union310 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nothing wrong with the length of stroke, it is the speed of the motor.

      Yeah plans are A1 Try to get materials together first though so you dont have to make as many apprentice marks as I did :DMotor was also a hard item to find for me as was a big bit of aluminium to make the big drive wheel.Colour was left over from grinder repaint.

      I'm sure you could use a commercial boring head to make one of these to simplify construction. I however enjoyed building from plans 😀 It has a simple tool grind also so keeping it sharp is simple.

    It looks well balanced. Any tips? I have the plans and I’m priced my out the materials now so any advice is much appreciated. There is nothing like building a machine to build other machines! To those who don’t quite get why a hacksaw instead of a bandsaw.... -size and price. I have limited amounts of both. I can hang this saw on the wall and have it around to accurately cut large pieces of stock. -The experience of building one-accurate cuts. Bandsaws rarely do this, I have used several different bandsaws at work and always add at least .125”, more on some saws, much more on stock over 4”. That then needs to be cleaned up on a another machine.

    • @mre3820
      @mre3820 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, best advise is to obtain motor and work out size of pulleys and drive belt before you drill too many holes in the mounting plate. Collect all the bearings and machine to suit those etc. You can weld some parts together rather than silver solder. Try to build the saw to a tight tolerance as that is how you can achieve an accurate cut. I cut 4 thin washers from a 1 inch bar and could repeat 15 thou cuts, the worst was 1.5 thou out of thickness. Not as accurate as a lathe or mill but pretty good for a first operation tool. HTH

    Does it have lift up on a back stroke?It should have or you will destroy the teeth of a hacksaw.Maybe design some sort of eccentric cam to lift it on a back stroke.Also you should reduce a speed and make a simple drip lubrication for it.Except that good job .

    • @mre3820
      @mre3820 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      zumbazumba1 thanks for comments. It works great as it is so I don't need to do any of the things you suggest.
