Mild Abuse and its Consequences: a factual, personal, family photo story (1930 to 2024)

I only experienced a handful of abusive experiences. So my experience was not the same as most other children who were abused. Some children are abused on a weekly, and sometimes daily basis, so their recovery process probably has to be different from mine. The recovery process is a different topic. Although my purpose for posting this is to reflect the real world, it happens that there are a f...

Calgary's First Ring Road (1975 Super 8 film)
มุมมอง 13K11 หลายเดือนก่อน
This video was taken from my brother's car while driving around Calgary. It lets you experience driving on a few of Calgary's main roads, about 50 years ago. I had just bought a new 1 to 10 zoom Super 8 movie camera, so was experimenting with it. The initial shots i took were jumpy, so for decades I have viewed this video as just garbage. From 17 Avenue S.E., we drove south on Blackfoot Trail, ...

In August of 2019 I ran into a band playing in Revelstoke, at noon. Why? My impression is that normally you need at least 50 people in order to hire a live band. (An interesting marketing strategy.) So I was surprised to find a lively band, full of energy and noise, banging away, at noon.

This is memory lane for my life in DT, going to the Dreamland on Saturdays, YMCA for swim and fitness. I think your filming is perfect as if the movement is a slice in time. A friend was caught staring in the Coffee Cup Cafe and ended up with a fork in his hand. There is a kid wearing my old winter coat or one like it in a scene. I had to double take that shot as I thought it was me. Much appreciated!

I lived in the neighborhood of Westgate and the hill was in use until 1978 when a friend of mine was tubing like in this video but at night from what I was told he hit a tree headfirst. After that the city brought in hay at the bottom of the hill to prevent anyone going onto the train tracks at the bottom but kids still had accidents, so the city just planted trees on the hill to prevent any more accidents

I think what happened was those who were disabled for life started using lawyers, so they could get a lifetime of help for their lifetime disability. Also, the emergency room doctors probably started keeping track of the damage that was done on these hills. When people are outdoors on a beautiful day, they find it hard to see the consequences of risk taking.

In most ways life was “better”…… less political corruption, less dept and inflation, stronger purchasing power power, less toxin build up in the environment however during the 70’s 80’s and 90’s our government was hiring and funding universities and hospitals to work on MK Ultra in partnership with CIA which developed horrific methods of mind control which are widely utilized today

The wierd thing is seemingly Alberta especially Calgary does a really good job most of the time deleting old roads until theres no trace left except of whats still in use. Look around BC even the big cities and you can see the ruins of old roadbeds all over the place sticking off the side of modern highways.
