Excellent information, thank you!
Thank you so much for your kind words! It really means a lot to me to know that the information is making a positive impact!
Greetings from southern PA and can't thank you enough for you wonderful vids. I just turned 71 and, like my Dad, I've had a bit of a tender back my entire life. But this Sciatica flare-up I've been suffering the past 2 weeks is borderline brutal. I'll give your exercises and advice a go and thanks again.
I truly appreciate your support! It means a lot to hear that the videos are making a difference. I hope the exercises bring you some much-needed relief!
@@PT4Everybody I'm sure they will and looking forward to some relief. Thanks again Doctor.
Knee cross over chest for 30 seconds repeated 5 times is effective if done regularly
Love the advice!
I have also pain severbe
Oh no, that sounds rough! Hang in there, and don’t forget to treat yourself to some good vibes while you’re healing!
Thank you!!! I am older and have a lot of joint issues and lately have been really suffering from sciatica. I do go to physical therapy and they’re trying to help help me strengthen my body and I know that in the end that’s the answer I need. But in the short run, I’m taking way too many pain pills to get through this and I think this is a much better option for me.
Thank you for sharing your journey! It’s inspiring to see you taking proactive steps towards better health. Wishing you all the best on your path to recovery!
I am having this pain .i pray i apply medical oil . Itstops only for a few minutes
Dr should i be doing planks.. and why does it hurt so bad when i stand in one place.. actually goes away when i work
Oh and I forgot that I am a driver.. should I put a lumbar pillow.. what do you think
Thank u dear.doing great following ur technical tips.stay blessed.love u
Thank you so much for your kind words! It means a lot to me that you’re finding value in my tips. Stay blessed!
Am about 50-60% better. Still a little worried about my coast-to-coast flight on Nov 27. I take pain meds ( OTC ) when I need to do activities outside home for several hours. They certainly help cos I experience no pain. But I am careful with my affected leg movements. Please do advise. And thanks again.
Long flights are super tough with sciatica symptoms. I would take a jacket or something you can roll up behind your low back to help your positioning while sitting. Wishing you the best of luck!
Check this one out: th-cam.com/video/h4RVddNux3o/w-d-xo.html
Question-my first MRI revealed a Gluteus medius and minimus tendinitis. The doctors did not mention it atall. Do you think it’s complicating my Sciatica in any way ? Cos I’ve noticed I have to be vv careful about how I move my leg-not sure what triggers the pain suddenly. Relaxation of my affected leg has helped a lot-wonder if it calms the nerve ???
Absolutely believe that gluteus medius and minimus affect the sciatic nerve. The glut muscles support the pelvis which is what the low back stacks up on.
@@PT4Everybody So, how should I go about this problem ? Am confused what I should prioritize for healing to happen and pain to decrease
Right-I don’t think the Epidural shot helped. Thoughtful exercises and proper low back body mechanics and thoughtful leg positioning did.
Thank you for sharing your experience! It’s always inspiring to see how people find different paths to healing and wellness.
You are so kind to reply so promptly, obviously understanding our needs 🌺
Dr. Amy-first and foremost, Thank you Strangely, I do not really have low back pain. It’s mostly at the back of my hip joint and back of thigh. Piriformis acts up off and on. Sitting is difficult for me-and some surface area better than others.
Many people with sciatica don't have low back pain. It sounds like your sciatic nerve is irritated by the piriformis muscle. Wishing you the best on your journey!
Do you have a root cause video?
I do! th-cam.com/video/1hYgSo7a_5g/w-d-xo.html

Anti-imflamatory, anti-pain herbs and foods have helped me a lot. Stay away from imflamatory foods. When you are able to relax you can begin to heal. No alcohol! Do what she says and check out El Paso Manual Therapy Videos.
Anti-inflammatory food are so helpful!
Thankyou mam for your informations👍
I really appreciate your kind words! It means a lot to know the information was useful to you!
ice was the worst for me. heat is the only thing that ever helps. heating pad for 20 minutes or a sort of hot bath for 20 minutes. If i do the ice i end up with more pain.
Thanks for sharing your opinion!
Hello, my pain is in front of thigh it’s horrible!! I had surgery for L5 S1 lamincetomy! Don’t know what to do
I am sorry to hear that! Unfortunately, I hear this story all too often. Wishing you the best of luck on your recovery!
My right glut been sore for 6 weeks is it sciatica
It could be the sciatic nerve that is irritated but it could be muscle or the sacroiliac joint
You hit the nail on the head
I really appreciate your support! It means a lot to know the message resonated with you.
Now i understand. My leg pain is not due to heavy work on legs. It is due to my stiff lower back mostly
Thank you for sharing your realization! It’s amazing how our bodies work in mysterious ways, and I'm glad you found some clarity.
Thank you so much. I'd been getting worse with hot showers, yoga and stretching. Saw this video. Tried applying ice periodically and resting. That helped immediately. Much more manageable now, a week later. A thousand Thank Yous!
Thank you for sharing your experience! It means a lot to know that the video made a positive impact. Wishing you continued progress on your journey!
When pain pills don’t help I found that 3-5 minutes on my heating pad did help me get through to calm it down some along with elevation of my leg. Two straight weeks of suffering but walking even with the pain has calmed it down a lot. Lazy doctor gave me a sheet of paper with all of the stretches which didn’t feel right. They want you to keep coming back so they can get paid for doing nothing but waiting it out!
Thank you for sharing your experience! It’s always helpful to hear what strategies others have found effective in managing pain. I hope you continue to feel better!
I can confirm that the information presented in the tutorial is entirely aligned with my experience. Thank you for the insights provided.
Thank you so much for your kind words! It means a lot to know the insights helped you out.
Well said. I have a cousin who had the surgery to remove a damaged disc in his lower back and almost lost his life and mobility due to the surgery done by a very reputable surgeon.
Thank you for sharing your cousin's story. It’s a powerful reminder of the risks involved in surgery and the importance of advocating for our health.
Hi I had an MRI and it shows 2 bulging discs. L4-L5 and L5-S1 My main symptoms are dull pain in both legs and burning in both soles of feet if I stand more than 15 mins or walk more than 1/4 mile. This has been for 5 months?? Any ideas would be very grateful? Thank you
Oof, that sounds rough! Five months is a long time to be dealing with that. Have you tried any exercises or therapies? Hope you find something that helps!
What if laying down with knees up is too painful and uncomfortable? ??
I always recommend that if something hurts - don't do it for now!
Finally, the clearest answer on all of TH-cam. Everyone else just states that rehab is better, but never addresses flap or bucket handles being worse.
Thank you for your kind words! I really appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts on this topic.
This is so true. Stretching exercises don’t help during flare-ups. My doctor recommended some exercises, and I kept at them, but the pain persisted. Finally, out of frustration, I decided to stop altogether. Within a day, my symptoms improved.
Thank you for sharing your experience! It’s so important to find what works for us individually, and I’m glad you found some relief.
Is tens unit machine will help the sciatica pain go away?
Tens unit is like medication - it helps to reduce pain but doesn't solve the problem. Wishing you the best of luck on your recovery journey!
@ how about swimming exercises? Does it helps?
Good to hear. Two days ago, I strained my muscle making an awkward body angle, and snap, a sudden pain from my hip. The pain, shooting bits and twinges, has been a fixture. I couldn't sleep the first night. Today I went on the internet and tried the ice and warm compress (because it helps absorb castor oil) but mostly i stuck with the cold one. I went about doing my daily chores because frankly, a problem like this cannot stop me from being up and about. I will be so bored if all I did was rest. I listened to my body, though. When i felt tired standing up, i would sit, though every getting up was terrible. I have found some acupressure info and it does help with the pain, even if temporarily. I will definitely fight this out as I don't like being with any type of illness. Acupuncture appeals to me as the best resort, if ever. What you have shared is important info because it is logical.
Thank you for sharing your experience! It’s always great to hear how others are navigating their challenges. Your determination is inspiring, and I hope you find relief soon!
Thank you for the advice
Thank you for your kind words! I'm so happy to hear that my advice resonated with you.
I have chondromalacia pettalla grade 2 and MRI shows focal linear full-thickness tear noted in lateral patella facet articular cartilage I am unable to do leg raise when i setting chair . Please provide some other exercise and is that curable without surgery or not?
The good news about a full thickness tear is that it has access to the blood flow from the bone. However, to avoid scar tissue formation you want to make sure you heal correctly. So finding a movement that is pain free will be helpful in your healing. Have you tried riding a stationary bike? This can help to get the joint moving smoothly and help the tissue to heal.
I appreciate your tips for sitting and agree that pictures or demonstrations on your recommendations would be helpful. My sciatica symptoms are the worst when lying down and also getting up in the morning. Any insights for that in another video would be helpful. Thanks!
Here's a video for you! th-cam.com/video/Hq_gKMfAGHw/w-d-xo.html
@ Thanks!
Can we see the long legs dr, Amy?
How about sitting in a car. I am so scared to drive now due to the pain I get.
The same tips apply BUT it is more challenging to get in the correct position due to the shape of the car seat. I recommend using pillows or towel bolsters to help support your body in the car seat. Wishing you the best on your healing journey!
Laying on your stomach feels good for my sciatica...but agreed Neck pain is worse
Totally get that! Laying on your stomach feels great, but neck pain is a whole different level of annoying. Hope you find a good solution soon!
A demonstration would have helped!
Thank you for your feedback!
Agree
If I have a disc problem, wouldn't I have some back pain with this sciatica? I do not have any back pain. My pain starts in my butt through to my hip and mostly in my thigh up to the knee, but sometimes I do feel it all the way down to my ankle. It has never been in my feet. My problem is I have been going to a PT, BUT she is treating the scoliosis, and some of the stretches she has given me have made the sciatica worse. When I first went to her, the sciatica was almost gone. Now after 5 weeks of PT, it is much worse again. She uses the Scroth Method for scoliosis. I asked her originally shouldn't I wait until all of the sciatica pain is gone, and she said no. She is a PhD Physical Therapist.
Hmmmm...that is interesting. Usually the Schroth Method is very effective. I would certainly discuss this with your therapist and explain your concerns. You don't want to be aggravating one problem while fixing another!
Describe Shingles in Sciatic nerve... next level agony for weeks 😢 its real. Please help people.
Shingles are a whole different level of pain. Wishing you the best on your healing journey!
@PT4Everybody hi. Thanks! My regular doctor is pretty good. We made some mistakes early on which led to a horror show (my doctor was way too conservative at a time I needed nearly morphine level help - but luckily friends gave me some stop gap painkillers, good enough, from their own bathroom cabinet, but oh gosh it got wrenching pain for hours worst at night/all night. Now working better with my doctor, and in middle of 7th week. Its receded somewhat but seems to have left damage behind (?): the foot is numb to touch but still can hurt quite much or itches. Same with outer calf. So I've started gentle physio. Most importantly, to any fellow sufferers: resolutely cultivate your sense of the ironic, humor and try to find ways to be curious about what happens next. Also, have a pain management plan of some sort for good days & good plan in place for when the bad days come. Dig in deep you're gonna need it. Hugs and peace to us all
It’s a NIGHTMARE SCIATICA- I have been crying in pain. Bed ridden for 2 weeks. Just agony.
Thank you for sharing your experience with us. It’s important to talk about pain like this, and I hope you find some comfort and relief soon. You're not alone in this struggle!
So helpful!!! Thank you. Where were you when I fell asleep on my heating pad? What a nightmare!
Thank you for your kind words! I’m so happy to hear that you found the video helpful. Your support means a lot!
I wholly concur that heat is a bad idea. It’s confusing, I know, because if you are suffering from back spasms and a really tight QL, heat feels amazing. And it’s also great during a massage. But I once fell asleep overnight on a heating pad and woke up to the worst sciatica episode I had ever experienced. It went on for weeks. Disc inflammation needs ice and Tumeric. Lots and lots of tumeric.
YES!! Thank you for adding you support!
Steroids turn your bones to die and turn to stone (Correct)???
Too many steroids can be a problem for your bones. It is something that should be considered carefully.
I have HNP and have a chronic lower back pain. Recently, I was hospitalized for being unable to walk. I was diagnosed with neural foraminal stenosis which I am now understanding as different from sciatica? I'm now undergoing therapy and have been told to stretch for the first set of sessions.
Thank you for sharing your experience! It’s important for others to know they’re not alone in this journey. Wishing you the best as you work through your therapy!
Please: humans "lie . .": "objects lay, or are laid. . .
Thank you!
Great video but now I'm confused on what I actualy have it all started after carry heaven waters home The pain started in my lower back ,then when I tried to sit on my butt ,pain got much worse ,my lower back spasm, pain only feel better if I lay down or stand up ,pain start in my right buttock then down my left femur ,no pain in calf or foot ,then same pain in right top leg but alot lesser.....I fell on black ice many years ago and couldn't move for like a minute or more never got a xray for that fall....But I have seen a chiropractor and xray show slight scoliosis, Also have recurring history of lower back spasms that would cause me to sit still for 30 to 40 minutes.....I have to see another doctor because the ER only gave me pain meds & muscle relaxant, Can I have sciatica & a lumbar strain or herniated disc at the same time?? Are they all pretty much the same?
You can have all of them together! Often a herniated disc will irritate the sciatic nerve and lead to muscle spasms. I do often see all of these together in my clients. Wishing you the best on your healing journey!
I had a flair up first time three weeks ago. Did some stretching got better. Sitting on the floor with G daughter and had intense flair up three days ago. What to do??
Have you tried ice to decrease the pain?
I didn’t, but will next time. I hope it’s not chronic.
I am 73, have pain on my lower back, very tight muscle at my buttocks so much so they are very stiff and painful. My thighs are OK, no discomfort, but have pain on the outside of both calf. I suspect I have spinal stenosis. For several years, my back kept on making crackling sound as I move around or doing yoga, no pain but rather disturbing.
Thank you for sharing your experience! It takes courage to talk about these challenges, and I hope you find the relief you deserve soon.
