You should zoom in a little bit more😂
The best mod you can do is to not watch SOA 😂
Good info Buddy, looking into a flasher now.
Thank you for watching! Can’t go wrong with the custom dynamics flashers!
Friends don’t let friends get T bars.
Too bad they used to be cool 🤣
I plan to get a new handle bar, it is listed as an Ape Hanger though it is only a 10in. My current handle bar is 9.5in so it is only slightly higher. I also got a Puig Clutch and brake lever, having to get some repairs done after an accident. I have thought about getting an underglow, though I would want to keep it minimal if i do. Still not 100% sure on that yet.
10 inch bars are probably the most comfortable, plus they’re not super tall lol. Hopefully everything is good with your bike, accidents are no fun!
@@KevinSornig oh yeah, The shop just got the insurance check. I was out there looking at what has to be repaired. It is not as bad as I was expecting. There are some things that need to be repaired that i did not expect though. I went down when someone pulled out in front of me and stopped. Was down for 2 months, I was just released from medical so I can return to work.
That’s good they’re getting your bike sorted out! Glad to hear you’re able to go back to work, hopefully your recovery was smooth!
@@KevinSornig yeah, i barely even remember that first month after the accident.
Oh damn man that ain’t good😬 sucks to hear about that man, I hope you don’t have any permanent injuries from that wreck
You forgot adding a small fairing to a bike the normally doesn't have one. Like the one behind you and then wanting taller bars by just adding risers. Why not just add taller bars without the risers?
The fairing isn’t on the list because it actually serves a purpose. The tall risers were a mistake in judgement cause when I was 17/18 I thought I was cool, I wanna keep these bars because they’re a CR High bend which is very comfortable but I want to go with a shorter riser maybe a 6 or 8 inch with pullback. Ride safe🤘🏻
I did the $185 three finger levers because I got tired of hitting car mirrors when lane splitting (yes, even at very low speed filtering). Professionally installed because even they needed special fitting. Cables are smooth pulling now (because of the mechanic's skill). I never got the hands over shoulders thing with 20 inch apes. It looks dorky and can't be comfortable. I am almost at the end of modding my Sportster. It is a Stage 1 Plus (not quite a Stage 2), it came as a Cafe Racer and now it is a Crusier. Now I am getting into comfort mods and looks. Neon lights, nah. Just make everything on your bike LED. That is better.
That’s awesome! Glad you got your bike sorted out the way you like it! The comfort mods are a must on the sportys especially if you’re a taller rider, on the sportys I’ve owned I always changed the seats out to a saddlemen or Le Pera for extra comfort. Ride safe!
Hi from Sweden, just found your channel & enjoyed the post, totally agree with you on not getting cheap levers, had a pair snap on me years back, I didn't have a channel then so dont have it on film unfortunately as it would of made a good cautionary tale, sent you a sub , Ride safe man
Thank you for watching and subscribing! I'm glad you liked the video! I've made the mistake of cheap parts and I always learned the hard way from my mistakes. Buy nice or buy twice was something an oldtimer told me years back, if I would've listened to him I could've saved myself some money haha, ride safe!
what about the factory connector,,, did you had to cut any wires and install proper connector at the bike for the new headlight (blue adapter)?
There was no cutting of any factory wires, we did heat shrink the factory blade connectors so they don’t cause a short. The blue connector plugs right into the factory connector 👍🏻
Pro Stock Pintos with 351 Cleveland's were bad a$$. Remember Bunny's, Dyno Don's and Sam Auxier Jr.'s.
That’s really good information 👍🏽
Thank you!
It is NOT impossible to make underglo wiring super clean. 😂 You have just dealt with amateurs.
I agree with you, when I installed them I made them as clean as possible. But most of the time the customers installed them and it was always a mess lol
Bike is sick. 1 recommendation. Mini floor boards on the back or she’s burning shoe soles on a pipe that close. Don’t ask how I know 😂. Bike is sick though. And down here in Florida “Hell ya brother.”
I’ve been meaning to get a sissy bar and some mini floorboards for the back cause the ole lady has burnt some shoes onto the pipe and she wants a backrest😂 and hell yeah brother!!
When you say to measure the clutch cable and fully collapse the adjuster do you mean measure it loosened up or with tension?
@@SimpleMistaken you want the the adjuster tightened, so screw it all the way in and then measure the sheathing on the cable. If you measure without screwing the adjuster all the way in, you’ll get a false reading and your new cable will be too long. Hope this helps!
Led wires are not hard to run properly if you just take your time also get some quick connections so you can take them off when needed
Ive done most of these mods on my sportster. Led's, keep me visible at night. All wires are hidden and attached to the frame. Lowering brackets, yeah, rougher ish ride, but damn it looks noce! Lifted my tank, 3" in front, 2" in rear. Looks freat with the ignition and coil relocated. Did loose bout half gallon. 12" bars on her, but, im 6' tall, so theyre shoulder height. Also have 10 over forks. I love modifying my bike! Idid 1000/24 in November. Not a single issue! The joy for me, is building, riding and building more! Keep the rubber on the road 🤘😈
Love hearing that! At the end of the day it’s your bike and you should do whatever you want with it! 1000 miles is 24 hours is tough bro, you’re tougher than me for doing that on a sporty! Ride safe man🤘🏻
Very informative thank you 🙏
Thank you for watching!
Everything spot on.
I appreciate it!
Those are neat. But in Arizona, the sun would rot them very quickly 😢
Ah man I didn’t think about that🫤 I normally have a bed cover so I think they should last me a few years
Best bike tie downs. I have them for my truck too
That’s awesome! I can’t wait to try them out!
are these just normal ratchet straps bolted to the side with a plate or is there somewhere that sells them? would love these for my bikes
They're auto-retracting and made to be bolted into the truck bed or a trailer. I bolted mine in with the hardware they came with but I put a little plate behind them for extra support. I have a link in the description if you want to check them out 👍
@ awesome man thank you
What is your opinion about extended swing arms? Where I live they manufacture swing arms that are two to three inches longer than the stock swing arm. They also do "cut and weld" swing arms. They cut the stock swing arm, add metal and weld it back together.
If I was going to have an extended swing arm I’d go with one that’s either manufactured to be longer or a weld on extension. The bolt on extension just seems too sketchy for me. If they cut and weld it back together to be longer and they can keep it square then I don’t see that being an issue.
Unfortunately it's illegal to have a flashing brake light in the UK and it will fail it's yearly mot test
Man that’s a bummer, I have a module on my bike here and I truly think it’s saved me from getting ran over a few times.
@@KevinSornig my son had the little indicators which act as running lights and brake lights, and flashed for maybe 3 seconds before going steady, took it for the mot and she told him nope they may not flash if it's operating as a brake light.... So he simply wired in a switch on the brake light feed 🤣
@ hey if it works it work🤣 luckily I don’t have to deal with any inspections where I’m located haha
Again… I agree with all your points, especially tires. I DO NOT scrimp on tires! Thanks for the video!
Thanks again I appreciate it!
Totally agree with all your points, thanks!
Thank you for watching!
Had to start all over again after trading my 09 softail in for a 24 street glide so I finally have slip-ons coming in today from Tab performance. I'm planning on getting saddle bag bars and a seat next. I have highway pegs...somewhere if I don't find them I'll just get another set. Unfortunately K&N doesn't make a filter for my bike just yet I'm holding out for that one
I bet that 24 is sweet! Those Tab slip-ons have some of the best tone in the game. Which bag guards and seat are you thinking about getting? Also I’m surprised K&N doesn’t have one out yet lol
And who the Phaq are you? Have tshirts twice as old as you. Swinging the bat to try to be a TH-cam star? STPHAQUP
Someone’s mad☹️
Coming from the guy with a springer seat on a swingarm bike…
Every mod you mention, I have. Thanks for the suggestions.
Good stuff! Thank you for watching and your comment!
So I've got to ask about the tank lifts, i was looking at getting on from DKcustoms for my heritage, they have one that lifts both the front and back of the tank. I mainly want it for cooling and being able to easily clean the top of the engine. Is it really that bad?
You’d be fine with a setup that lifts it evenly, truthfully you’d be fine with one that lifts only the front I just don’t like em personally. DK customs makes good parts too 👍🏻
Did you say, “on a Harley or a metric bike?” LMAO!!! Gold!
Yessir!!
Swingarm extensions are ghey
👍👍
Thank you! 🤘🏻
Why i have 2 bikes . Bars are a must.
I know what you mean! Ride safe 🤙🏼
The only two I don't agree with are the bars and the tank lifts, both to a certain extent, like you said, if your hands are level or just below level with your shoulder then that's actually an optimal angle because your arms are at a neutral position rather than a positive or negative one. the tank lifts are great if your bike isn't liquid cooled to the heads, it'll help with things like parades or this famous Florida traffic but going too high can cause issues. Speaking of Florida, I don't know what area you're in but there is a memorial ride at Bert's barracuda Harley this Saturday, the 11th, registration at 9 ksu at 1015. Today was the 1st time I have seen your channel and you got another subscriber, you did great explaining your points whereas most people would just say their point and ramble on about it, you were to the point and informative
Thanks for watching and your comment, I appreciate it! I just wanted to share my opinion and experience, I love the feedback too btw. I’m up in North Florida and currently my fxr is down with a busted engine case, so I won’t be able to make it unless I could borrow a bike which probably won’t happen 🤣 it’s been a while since I’ve been down there to Bert’s and I’d like to get back eventually! As of right now though I have to find either a left side case for a 103 or just grab a wrecked bagger as a donor bike. I appreciate the invite!!
@KevinSornig man I hope you get back on 2 wheels soon! I know that feeling all to well. Unfortunately the bike my buddy's using the bike he usually lets other people ride because his heritage is down a wheel he found it was cheaper to get a whole new wheel rather than have the spokes adjusted 😅
@ I appreciate it! Putting aside some cash as I can to get the parts but with the other stuff I got going on right now the bike is on the back burner lol. Not a lot of people around my area will spend the time to true a wheel so that’s what most people end up doing, out with the old in with the new. Y’all be safe on that ride!
I run 16” apes on all of my bikes. I’m 6’4” and this positions my hands at shoulder height, I have wrist damage from construction and impact tools, and this eliminates the pain. I also have enough pull back to keep my arms just a lil more than 90-100 degrees. Giving me perfect control for counter steering, slow maneuvers, and ride comfort on long hauls. My wrists and hands used to go numb on standard bars. Now I can do 500 miles a day in comfort. I think the preference is what’s comfortable and safe for the rider based on their size and needs.
Nothing tells the world that you have NO riding skill, than a swing arm extension. Nothing. The smaller the displacement of the engine of the bike you stretch (and I've seent stretched 600cc bikes), the less skill you have.
Can I put MONKEE BARS on my V Rod?
Y’all can do whatever you’d like, it’s your bike 🤘🏻
I been riding since 1964...... My father was a flat track and road racer, even on IOM TT and raced with Ray Amm of Norton Factory rider fame. The First things he taught me: -if you have a $10 head, ride with a $10 helmet, or none. Buy the best helmet you can afford. -dress for the fall and not the ball.....that downer when you "just going round the block" is what kills or disables you - use quality boots, gloves and goggles. Your feet, hands and eyes are your ability to earn to follow your passions -ride as fast as you can see to stop. Those 100mph bursts in a 30 zone is what hurts in a sudden stop against a vehicle that never saw you -ride with your loght on always. You are a moving pencil line against the background and motorists have no way of judging your speed or distance from them. Let them know your are coming their way. -in an argy bargy with a motor vehicle, its a 1-0 soccer score, you lose. Give way to the idiots. A road rager side swipe is a dent for him and most times a box for you. The 4 plus vehicles always have right of way, even if they dont..... And i have ridden them all, from cruisers, to scramblers, to adventure bikes, to superbikes- my last super bike was clocked at 200mph...... at just on 70 now i have hung up my helmet and miss the riding. But speed is in my racing blood and at 200 the reactions are not good enough anymore. If i could afford a trike on my pension i would seriously consider hair in the wind. I have all my gear incl AGV, gloves, jacket, pants and boots...... Ride safe guys The old old saying of "ride to live, live to ride and arrive alive" is valid today too......
Dude has never built anything just stock junk. Keep choppers sketchy
Built a few chops, and had my share of sketchy bikes lmao ride safe
i get what your saying man... but at the end of the day that's why you have 2 or more bikes.... one built to rip thats practical for your type of riding.... and then you got the other shit box with all those parts and mods that you hate.... that you hit the bar with...... thats why you see so many funky ass bikes.... everyone is different... FTW
I get it man, and you’re right it’s better to have to bikes one that’s tricked out and one stock lol. Take it easy, ride safe🤘🏻
Just need a set of Motion Footpegs for the next build. Just saying...
I’d be down to put a set on the next bike I pick up!
I had lowering link on my bike I hit a pot hole snap the link it was all bad
00:21 a bowl of spaghetti
Very well put video and you are spot on the money Brother. When I do anything to my rides I work hard at making it just like Factory and or professionally done. I have seen many fails with bikes over the 67 years of life due to poor workmanship and or the person didn't really know what they were doing. I live in Northern Wisconsin and I have seen more than I care to mention. Thank You for the Vid.. Take good care and Be Safe! I'm gone, Later Bro!
Thank you for watching, and right on with that maintenance and keeping you bikes professional. Always nice to get some props from a seasoned rider! Ride safe 🤘🏻
There is NOTHING cool looking about raised bars or ape hangers. Just sayin
On my Suzuki V-Strom DL650 lowering links aren't just NO problem - they're widely recommended & used by guys under 6' & under 32' leg ! This particular bike is just too tall for a 30" inseam guy to comfortably control stopped or maneuvering. Also I think your comment about LEDs don't refer to a simple plug & play Headlamp upgrade, yes ? I upgraded mine from the stock halogens & it's huge upgrade. Gotta dim brights tho to be safe for oncoming cars etc.
Lowering linkages are perfectly fine because it doesn’t change the travel or geometry of the rear suspension 🤙🏼 also I prefer led headlights and tail lights due to better visibility. So you’re solid in my book🤘🏻
@KevinSornig Cool good to know. For a minute I was afraid you'd say: "Anybody crazy enough to run a Darkside rear car tire ought to be run out of town on a rail !" Guess who has a car tire on his V-Strom rear & loves it ? Lol
I used to mount car tires on bikes at the shop. Personally I wouldn’t do it but I haven’t heard it being an issue, I’ve only heard good things about it like increased stability in wet contritions and longer life out of the tire itself. Like I said I don’t run one but I can’t speak against them either lol
@KevinSornig Yeah that's my experience in short. Great increased traction - I have 5.8" on ground now vs 2" on an M/C tire so almost a 3x increase in contact patch. Looking at 20-24,000 miles lifespan. from a $68 tire ! Originally it had a $140 Pirelli Angel GT that died at 7,500 miles. That's a LOT of money left on the table in my book ! I scoot through the turns quickly no issues. In fact I forget it's a car tire unless I'm off the bike looking at it. FWIW it was OE size 150/70-R17 Now a 205/55 ZR 17 Petlas Performance Radial 205 is widest that can fit - chain line limits it. A 195 would also work but that width is rare in 17" wheel size. Cheers - David in Texas
Nice vid Kevin. I’m all for each their own style so this is only my take. Your bars sitting on some walrus tusks for risers looks like crap. They are comfortable but look like crap. And if that isn’t unappealing (for me) you have them behind a sport fairing. The two styles don’t mix. Imagine ape hangers on a gsxr, you get the point. I’m old school that sons of anarchy look doesn’t do it for me lol, but I respect everybody’s choices.
I appreciate your comment, and as for the bars I want to change them out because they really are too high. At the time when I built the bike I thought it was the coolest thing to have Twin Tower sized risers, but after years of riding with them I’ve gotten tired of the tall bars. But priorities now have kept me from changing them out. The Rifle fairing on there does keep the wind off of me but like you said the sons of anarchy look isn’t doing it for me anymore either 🤣 ride safe though, thank you for watching and you comment!
To the people saying tank lifts help with cooling, show me the proof, show me some evidence of this. It allows more air to slightly run over the rocker boxes which don't even get hot compared to 99% of the motor, and they look stupid. I ran one on my Sportster at one point and lost a good amount of fuel mileage because the fuel pump wasn't able to get to the last bit of fuel, it looked silly and when I finally realised how dumb it was I got rid of it and never looked back lol
I use nothing but quality on my Harleys!
All round pretty good advice.
Thank you!
