Food scraps to stock! #zerowasterecipe #lovefoodhatewaste #recipe
Leftovers can be one of life’s greatest pleasures. Not only do they mean you can have a night off cooking, but many foods like stews and curries taste way better the next day 😋
The best way to make the most of your leftovers is to store in a way that ensures they are safe to eat.
Our simple method is the 2-2-2 rule:
🍲Make sure you cool them, cover them and get them into the fridge within two hours of cooking.
🍽️Eat your leftovers within two days.
❄️Or keep in the freezer for two months

Confused about date labels? We debunk common myths.
มุมมอง 1819 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
📅 Many of us get confused by the dates printed on our food packaging. Some of us wouldn’t touch food even a day past the date listed, while others are comfortable to eat food well after. 💡 The key thing to remember is that Best Before refers to the quality of the product, so you can eat food after this date, but it may not be at it's best. While a Use By is a date linked to food safety and food...
Store your potatoes and onions separately
มุมมอง 1621 วันที่ผ่านมา
It may be convenient to store them in the same place as they both need to be in cool, dry, dark places, but potatoes and onions should be kept away from each other. When they’re kept together they release moisture which makes them both sprout faster. Unwashed potatoes can last to up to three times longer than washed potatoes.

Thanks for the ideas :) Stock can be frozen for up to three months - save in 1-cup quantities in ziplock bags. It is best to reduce the stock (rapid-boil stock once bones and vegetables have been removed) to get a concentrated stock for freezing.

At last somebody that bottles the same way I do. As long as the fruit is cooked and the bottles are sterilised with heat (I microwave them for 5 minutes) then the lids are sealed with air pressure as the full bottle of fruit cools. No need for water baths and all that malarky.

There is no way this initiative can work. The problem is that it doesn't scale well. It may work with a single fridge but what if you have a dozen of these fridges? Where are you going to find the volunteers to run them? This is an excellent initiative for businesses to donate food while keeping homeless people at bay and away from their doorsteps. However, if you consider the price of transport, parking in the city, human effort and maintenance of these fridges, then you will need the local government to invest more in this initiative. I hope the people who come up with this get a lot of karma points. What goes around comes around.

I think this would work if enough people tried it. In capitalist countries collectivism is unfathomable, but that mindset can be changed on a local level. Until food is literally free, this is probably the best alternative we've got so might as well try

Your recipes are cool! But if you’re interested in reduction of food waste, wouldn’t you want to look at the most prevalent issues? A meat-eater’s diet requires 17 times more land, 14 times more water and 10 times more energy than a vegetarian’s (vegan is even more). A Harvard University Professor states that we could end the worst cases of world hunger today with about 40 billion tonnes of food, yet we feed 760 billion tonnes to agricultural animals per year. This is the real wastage problem. Animal products aren’t necessary whatsoever for us to be healthy (WHO backs this up). So why are we breeding billions of animals per year, housing them, feeding them, watering them, transporting them, when we could eat plants straight from the source, as well as avoiding unnecessary cruelty, environmental degradation and negative health problems. Spread the message of veganism to truly make a difference about food waste 💚
