Mendelssohn Trauermarsch for (one armed) Trombone Quartet

A project designed to keep me in shape and sane while my shoulder heals and I wait for the NSO to start up again. My Boeing trombone stand worked pretty well at keeping things relatively steady for this project.

One arm, left hand trombone stand. Wagner's Pilgrim's Chorus
มุมมอง 4574 ปีที่แล้ว
During my time away from the National Symphony Orchestra recovering from shoulder surgery, I built a one hand trombone stand so that I could use my left (good) arm as my slide arm so that my right shoulder could heal. This ended up being a much more difficult project than I'd originally thought. Pitch and finesse proved to be most difficult with the slide on my left. Additionally, the mouthpiec...

Elegy for Mippy II with pile driver
มุมมอง 1.5K8 ปีที่แล้ว
Elegy for Mippy II accompanied by a pile driver that was being used at the Kennedy Center for its expansion project. It's a bit slow and not completely steady, but definitely louder than the tapping foot that's normally used.
One-armed trombone playing.

I just had rotator cuff surgery today on my left shoulder. To prepare for this, I built a stand to hold my trombone up so I could play with just my right arm. The stand's base is half of a Boeing 737 wheel and the post is a Boeing landing gear actuator; both sourced on eBay. I'm using a couple percussion clamps and part of an ergobone to suspend the trombone in a position that allows me to play...
Slidecam Duet!
มุมมอง 91K11 ปีที่แล้ว
Thanks to my New York Phil colleague, David Finlayson, for his fantastic slide cam video, which is exactly what I've been experimenting with over the past several weeks so I'm very happy to see such a positive response! I wanted to post a little something now and to let folks know they can keep an eye out for my upcoming video blog that will use this feature on occasion. And to start things off...

What is female trombonist name?
Super 🎉
Outstanding playing from a Spanish trombonist.
Stunning! Absolutely Beautiful!
Great feel. I would like to start learning this.
Did Holly ever learn all 7 positions? Please tell us. Thanks!
Beautiful horn and playing! Enjoy!
Great tone! I love the projection without getting too small. Did you ever play it on a .525? Were you playing it on a .547 before?
Thanks. I’ve always done it on a .547
ahh yes the Cirq de Symphony! We did this in Boston a few years ago - it was the opening of Zarathustra, then cut directly to the trombone solo in Bolero! you sound terrific, Craig!!!
Thanks, Steve! We’ve done this show a few times over the years but never with Bolero. Or Zarathustra, for that matter…
Beautiful horn and just right for the piece. Love when older horns get their chance to shine again.
Amazing what you can find in a Mulcahy closet! We're glad it's still sliding! Wish we could hear it in person!
Sounds very nice. Definitely appropriate for Bolero - was surprised how warm the upper register is!
Nice playing! Tuning *In* the slide?? Now thats something I havent seen before
that's amazing!
Holly,, good to see that you made another 'bone video. Maybe you could take lessons, just for fun, while still being a professional violinist.
I am wondering if you may be willing to share your design for the brace.
No official designs…just kinda made it up as I went along. I’d be happy to email you som photos if you’re interested…and if I can find them.
2nd and 3rd player and tuba are very strong. First part needs a little more work, but that’s what practice is for! I’m sure she’s much improved 10 years later haha.
Don’t quit your day job
Anyway you can send me the sheet? dmygarnier@gmail.com
I always see myself come back to this video, it definitely makes my soul feel great watching this.
Beautiful! Thank you for sharing your talent with us!
Should have done another take.
Why? Nailed it the first time. 😁
@@Mulcbone I feel stupid. Didn't realize this was a joke until now
A decade+ later this is still one of my favorite TH-cam videos.
Wow, We enjoyed that! Thanks, “Nextdoor “ neighbor.
It's amazing to see your talent. This was really cool!
Found this on your Nextdoor post. Absolutely beautiful! Thank you for sharing!
Thank you, Craig. I saw your NextDoor link. Hope to see you soon at Kennedy Center or Wolftrap.
Beautiful! Followed your Nextdoor link. Gald I did.
Awesome! It is great to hear a professional musician who plays music. Beautiful!
Fabulous!
How long can we make this chain
Beautiful... this shows what can be done when you apply yourself.
Lovely; and the fact that you're a mother/son duo makes it even better. Merry Christmas!
Hermoso.... Gracias
Sounds great, man!
Fantastic!! I was holding my breath while listening. Glad you weren't. Just happened to find the performance on YT by luck! Glad I did!
Very nice
Beautiful playing, arrangement, and mother and son team.
Greetings father it is I your child
Super fantastic you two...thanks for posting this and thanks for telling me about it. You two play well together. Brightened my day, for sure.
WOW, Craig....fantastic. I am friends with your parents and they told me about this and it was GREAT fun to watch you perform AND to have put together the apparatus that will hold it in place so you can play. Thanks for posting this and get well soon!
"Not the most stable?" It's more stable than another hand, for sure.
Heh...true enough, but only when you’re not using it. It’s remarkably different when you’re using your torso to push into the mouthpiece rather than pulling it to your face with your arm.
This would be a great cello trombone duet with cello on the left.
Welcome to this week’s episode of What quarantine’s led me today
I have a feeling that there was no surgery
Oh trust me. There was.
This is great! Thanks for the shout out!
Remarquable
Well...that is the most beautifull piece i never heard.
Just now saw that positions 6 & 7 weren't used.
