    Just learned today, 13 January 2025, that the government has lifted the Phuket restriction on building on land 80m ASL in order to promote hillside development! There will be restrictions of course but hey, I wonder if there's a way around this? Phuket's pristine hillsides will soon be covered in villas. Counting down to the first landslide caused by hillside deforestation. Poor Phuket. I despair.

    Trump just won one of the smartest and greatest president we ever had. Don't believe the propaganda of the main media CNN etc. use your mind and do some critical thinking. Trump will fix the economy quickly he did it before he has kept socialism from taking over. UK has been taken over by socialism for years the english people come last. Terrible what they have done to the culture. Hopefully they will come on board with the Big T and fix there problems. Shameful what the citizens of UK did to Winston Churchill after he got your people through WWII what back stabbers your population is get a backbone stick up for yourself stop letting you industry take advantage of the people like the MAGA people just did in the US

    The other issue with the UK state pensions is that if the person coming over to Thailand hasn't met the eligibility criteria, such as 35 years of national insurance contributions ( to get the full pension), they only get a part pension - something to consider if they've moved to Thailand in their 40s or 50s, and are counting on a state pension in retirement. I understand it is possible to make national insurance contributions while abroad.

    • @mikebowle2368
      @mikebowle2368 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Its a case of planning the financial future .Ifyou have to rely on state pension which is inadequate then you have a problem.Timing is important,The cost of liivng in Thailand is a third of the cost of UK so you can live cheaply if required.

    • @Larry_Brown
      @Larry_Brown 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @mikebowle2368 as Sandy alluded to - a frozen pension will erode buying power, with inflation. But if a frozen 'full pension' isn't bad enough, a 'part pension' that is frozen will erode buying power even more, especially if the retiree has been in Thailand for an extended period of time. A retiree in their 80s on a frozen part pension, might not be able to afford assisted living services they may need, etc - not a good predicament.

    My takeaways from your wonderful discussion are the following - 1. Don't ignore Health Insurance (either Travel insurance or Thai insurance). Which can run between $100 to $200 a month in general (below 70 age) 2. Live in a house (villa), either on Rent or buy or "rent to buy". House is much more relaxing and spacious. Don't go for condo, unless on temp basis. 3. Don't ignore relationships as an "Anchor". Live in wife, GF or whatever. Strong friend circle and close associates. Thanks for sharing !

If you now find it too difficult to walk then head to the gym and do resistance training to increase leg musle strength. I came here donkeys years ago, then finally pension age came along, and it was supposed to be a breeze, and is to some extend. I bought blocks of land back home during my life, to leave to my kids, and flick one off when I need it. I left some money in on the last sale to a young couple, to be paid monthly for the 10yrs, this is on top of my pension.. We all fall for the Thai Babe, but with that comes certain expectations by them..The leader of the family, the breadwinner, the gatekeeper to a better life,, She had a very small house which wasnt my thing so I spent tp enlarge it, then bought some of papas land, to give me something do when she is at work..Yes I wanted a woman that worked, had her own money, but also friends outside of our relationship..wasnt sure she could handle after a introvertive life on a remote island..i Guess I have spent $100000 by now..I am paying now for Her son to go to Uni, and Papas food and medicine as part of a land deal with him..buy family land so nieces can go to college, or pay off a gambling debt..we 50/50 on the Uni, and 70/30 on the rest..I guess if I was back home I would be forking out as well, except I have a lean hunting knife instead of a battleaxe..Covid knocked me as well, yet I can still shovel 25 truckloads of dirt. Old age gets us all Mate.. I am on the borderline of Prostate cancer at 71..Can I afford Thai hospital care NO..do I want to die here, not really, rather be surrounded by my kids back home, and planted in the old sod..I told the missus I would cut and run when the time came..but do we have a choice..maybe, maybe not..Anyway Mate, chin up, you are not alone, most old dudes go thru old age..just enjoy what you can

Many are healthy 50 or 60 somethings but they seem oblivious to how quickly the years pass and don't seem to have a plan for when they are 70 or 80 somethings. Age and age related illnesses are facts of life. Also too many people trying to retire here on too tight a budget. Thailand isn't that cheap anymore. Lots of TH-camrs posting Vlogs about how cheap you can live here but most of it is fantasy. Finance is everything if you want to live here. Really appreciate your honesty on the realities of getting old in Thailand.

    Hello again, As a man of 68 years old, i can relate to youre content today, health wise i was in great health , but since i retired my health has rapidly started to go down hill, which does concern me greatly, i find myself reflecting upon life alot to, i have in the past thought about moving to thailand, but although i have money, for me the risks are to great. I have visited thailand many times looked at hundreds of hours of youtube videos which mostly only show content about how great thailand is, after you get the holiday mindset out of youre system, there are alot of harsh realities, ive yet to see a youtuber cover a video showing the real disasters that happen !! Or ex pats talking truthfully about their dreams not quite coming true, there is this tendency of bravado that everyone who has made the move to live in thailand to not admit defeat, There are many things that are good of course, but i like the protection of living in england , knowing if im ill i will be treated without having to worry about a massive health bill , And i have many other safety nets living here, i wonder how many people ( ferang ) who can say they are not worried about this, you really have to have some serious savings to be self insured, and although it isnt talked about to much living in not only thailand , no matter how long youve lived there you will and always will be a ferang an outsider, there are of course some very good stories of success, but when walking around many parts of thailand and especially pattaya, you dont need words to be spoken, because one can see just by looking there are many bad stories to, just by the demeanor of some men, and the look in there eyes, anyway happy new year to you and youre family ,

    Nowadays most of woman working on Walking Street are old and ugly. Last time when I was alone in Pattaya it was few years before pandemic. It took me a couple of hours to find a young very good girl but there was not a lot of such girls anymore. The reason there is not enough of customers anymore. But still once I will go to Thailand alone I will visit Walking Street, Beach Road, Soi 6. And in Bangkok Nana and Soi Cowboy. The bars in Pattaya was struggling long before pandemic. It was when Baht become more expensive and Asian tourists was more seen in Pattaya and dating websites become popular and later social media. Most of farang which was interested of holidays in Thailand was able to find woman there, and bring her back home, so not need to pay for sex in Pattaya.

    I was travelling to Thailand at this times that I was able to see how Pattaya was changing through the years. Lots of iconic bars are not exist anymore. I remember at least three girls which was working there in bars on Walking Street they must started at the ages younger than 15 it was early 1990s and I remember when they worked theirs last years there at early 30s they was still beautiful and great dancers, talented girls without any doubt. I remember even theirs names, Da, Wi and Jan. But when I been in Pattaya some years later they was gone and I seen the business was struggling gradually through the years. I remember one girl got married with her boyfriend and she moved to Germany. I don't know what was doing another two, but one of them was thinking to go abroad also, but I was not willing to be her sponsor. That was long before pandemic.

    I like youre videos very much, pattaya is most definately not the same as it was afew years ago, apart from the take over in jomptien and walking street , with the indians, and the russians, the rest of the bars are dead, due to afew reasons , 1. The pure greed of the bar owners, 2. The standard of the girls, Those of us who have been going for years / and those who live there , remember the good years , not just the cheaper prices, but afew years ago there were many 10 out of 10 s and even those who were not 10 out of 10s used to look good and dress very good to, i visited in may this year, and to be honest, the first put off for me was, the interactions of past years have gone, as you walk past a bar nowadays there can be most of the girls just sat on the stools heads down on thier phones, the 10 out of 10s have long gone, nowadays alot of the bars the girls are older, fatter, and have many cheap tattoos on thier bodies, they are nowhere as smart as they used to be, wearing cheap trainers etc etc the standards in general have dropped significantly, i noticed on my last visit, that alot of bars were allowing customers to smoke weed in the bars, each to thier own, but i didnt spend £1000 on a flight, and £1700 for my hotel , to smell weed !!! I think the city is saturated not only with weed shops, but saturated also with bars to, Agh well without doubt it will be a totally different city within the next 10 years for sure, i am visiting thailand again in february but this will most definately be my last visit. Take care and i always enjoy youre content . Ps. Theres a rumour going round that putin and trump are investing in a club on walking street !! Or is this just more fake news from tiktok??
