hey I have no idea if this was thought of, probably was and was discarded for some reason, but what if you just attached a warp drive to a nuke? just save the vehicle with a full warp drive and set up a breadboard to change the range of it (i'm pretty sure that's possible? if needed ACBs can interact with the drive, the only reason you need bread is to do calculations). I haven't tried this cause I'm verrry bad at breadboards but theoretically you could hide rubber chambers or holding spots for the nukes and have a range of up to 5000 metres as long as you're facing the enemy. Also theoretically, you can put it on turrets. It should be a lot cheaper than the (although brilliant, expensive) railgun system too, with the same fire rate if not faster per launcher. I don't think that It would be one tick, but that doesn't matter cause you're using a warp drive to get inside the target anyway.

I know this is 3 years old but I am building a doom satellite and being able to articulate blocks is going to be a game changer. It means, because space isnt very high up without glitch/cheat, I can deploy fully armored then open up to fire long charge particle beams.

You can add a fifth turret and use a generic block getter to get the current azimuth value of the super firing turret, and instead of a turret block you can use a spinblock and some engine power to make any gun turn at maximum speed while connecting the current azumuth to a generic block setter to set the spinblock to the angle of the turret blocK

25:36 Turns out a hybrid crank motor/piston prop is possible.

I’m just imagining a ship using AI to change the gun based on estimated target size and aiming locations. Aim at big cluster with huge HE. Pepper another area with small frag, hit the exposed AI with a massive EMP… all with you just saying “destroy him”! Even a “play with” mode, where it slowly cripples, but keeps the enemy right barely working, effectively “playing” with its prey!

Definitely a great guide, and still very useful. Still, waiting on the part 2… I’m not sure how to use water-tight shafts, and info on drills would be most appreciated!

I wonder what the numbers are for engine power efficiency, comparing steam turbine into an electric engine, a steam piston setup into generator into electric engine, or a piston engine directly. Will have to run then later. edit: Running some tests, I think that a 3*4+3*4 multi expansion large steam engine gets similar numbers to the small 7*7*x engine you featured. The large boilers actually fit into the 90deg space between the pistons, making it to be quite space efficient.

So is the part 2 gonna happen any time soon or is it canceled? Really struggling to get any good ppm with large steam engine parts for some reason

Fuel engines are still my goto because of how easy they are to optimise, but your explanation of steam turbines was perfect, so thanks!
