An old song with much meaning.

It should have been "let us die to make men free, " Not " Let us live to make men free," If you're going to sing this song, use the correct words !!

Try it with the original lyrics. Original name was "John Brown's Body Lay A Mouldering in the Grave"...was rewritten to the Battle Hymn post US Civil War.. Pre and during our civil war it was an abolitionist protest song... this is a great version...

Our son is a junior at Bama. We’ve been down visiting for a few games (16 hour drive from where we live). Gameday tailgate and the atmosphere is amazing. Energy during entrance is hype. Night games are especially magical. Search for “Alabama Dixieland Delight”. The crowd sings the whole song together, with some R-rated additions from the student section. 🙂It’s really a nice moment, again cooler at night games.

Considering this Swedish guy speaks fairly fluent English, I can forgive his mutilation of the word “tabernacle”. But it should be: T as in t, a as in at, bur, na (same short a sound), cul - accenting the first and last syllables. Sorry for this comment, but I have gone through the struggle of learning a new language (I speak 2 besides English). You could certainly have googled the pronunciation.

The instrumentalists are the West Point Academy orchestra. The choir is from the Mormon Tabernacle, the central building of the Mormon religion.

I’m an Alabama Alum. I spent every Saturday home game at Bryant Denny Stadium for 4 yrs. In the student section behind The Million Dollar Band. Best part the tailgating starts on Friday night. Usually the lawns are covered with passed out students. If it’s a 11am game, you get up at 6 am, hit the keg, go to the tailgate where the alumni feeds you kolaches and breakfast tacos. Then hit every keg along the way. We called it “Eggs and Kegs”. But you had to get up by 6 am if you wanted to drink all day. 😂. @ 12:45 that is the rivalry game between Auburn and Alabama. It’s called The Iron Bowl.

The Tabernacle Choir is from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They are volunteers missionaries from Utah.

The chior is from Utah. The band is West Point students. The men seated in the audience are also students.

Many Americans have willingly put their lives at risk of death to “set men free”. That is quintessentially American. It is in our DNA. America can only be great if it is also GOOD. Otherwise our Military deaths are wasted and dishonored. We must elect honorable and wise leaders who put our people first. As for the “Live” or “Die” to make men free argument, sacrificing one’s life is a powerful ethos and “die” is the most apt word. However, as General George Patton once said to his warriors, “Your job is NOT to die for your country….It is to make the (enemy) die for his country”. Good strategy. 😎👍🇺🇸

The U.S. is a Republic - this IS our battle hymn and has been for years. We have a president but the Lord Almighty is our Commander.

i don;t kn ow if you see comments so long after you post a video..but those watching the choir are students at West Point Military Academy and they are called the Corps of Cadets. if they were at the Naval Academy at Annapolis Maryland they would be called the Corps of Midshipman

The view you complimented is a very very iconic one. Especially in regards to the American Revolution. My grandfather is buried just up the hill to the left I believe. But behind the stage and down the hill is where Washington held a meeting with his top men to discuss who could possibly be the traitor giving away the secrets to the British. Benedict Arnold famously known as that traitor sat in on that meeting.

This is a very beautiful song based on our founding fathers' vision for America.

Julia Ward Howe wrote the Battle Hymn of the Republic in November 18th 1861 while staying at the Willard Hotel in Washington DC. The room where she wrote this poem for the the soldiers has her name at the hotel. Abraham Lincoln room is also marked where he had stayed.

Bah, its the dumbed down version. It isn't supposed to be "let us live to make men free" it is supposed to be "let us die to make men free". Pretending the cost of war doesn't get paid is childish.

I'm a Penn State guy, I was there from '99-'02 ... When we played (a huge rival of ours, and one of the best teams in the nation) Ohio State in early October of 2005, we were #16 and they were #6 and expected to be competing for the National Championship - and the entire place was *insane* ... I have spoken to friends, Brothers, and complete strangers who were also there- and everyone agrees - it not only felt like the actual STADIUM was "swaying" when people were jumping up & down to the music, many people outside the stadium (Something like 200-300K people go to the game, just to Tailgate outside the stadium, knowing that they're not actually going 'inside' the game...) - people OUTSIDE felt like the ground was was shaking... It was like 110K people were causing a fuckin Earthquake - AND, after the game, they had structural collapses inside ... There is *nothing like* a Penn State Whiteout / Night Game ... If I was rich, I would gladly invite you to come to a game (I live ~1,100mi+ away these days lol and haven't been back for some time...) - just for to experience it and go back to Sweden and be like, "Dudes, some of those Americans *really DO* know how to party lol" .... Just a slight correction to your pronunciation of "Tabernacle". It is actually 'Tab-er-nak-ell-." I'm not saying this a a criticism. I'm sure I would mispronounce most Swedish words.

The Morman Tabernacle Choir is unmatched. They make beautiful choral music seem effortless.
