The correct lyrics of the last verse of this song is as follows: "As he died to make men holy Let us die to make men free". The Mormon church has a history of having racist beliefs, so it is no shock they wouldn't sing the song correctly.

HI Matthew! I enjoyed your video on The Mormon Tabernacle Choir at West Point. I have not seen them since I was a child and had no idea that the choir could be so large. I am 68 years old and back in the 1960's and 70's I could see them on TV every year around Christmas time. They do sing beautifully and I appreciate your recognition of them. Although most Americans are not of the Mormon faith, Americans used to hold them as a national treasure. With media in the U.S. moving to the left politically the choir no longer gets much exposure unless it is on a conservative production. This song, The Battle Hymn of the Republic, has been a patriotic anthem since our Civil War in the 1860s. The song sings of the power of our Lord and God. No way the liberal media wants to showcase that. Too bad. My children are thirty years old and I wonder if they even know this song. It was taught as a music class staple when I was in grammer school in the 1960s. Also, not to be rude, the word is pronouced tab-er-na-cle. God Bless You.

I went hiking, rock climbing and fishing for a week with three buddies in the military. They got off duty before me, so I got to the Sawtooth Primitive trailhead about three hours after they did. They told me which Lake that they would camp at the first night. So I was really hiking with a huge backpack as fast as I could. After about three hours climbing up the mountaisn, I came to a small stream, about 10 foot width. There were bushes and shrubs that lined the stream. I did not want to slow down so I just laid on my belly and drank right out of the stream (Primitive area, ZERO pollution). After 20 to 30 seconds of drinking with my face in the stream, I heard the brush move slightly. I looked up and saw a large cougar push it's head through the bushes and stare at me. I laughed at it and made some comment at it. It pulled it's head back into the bushes and left. I did not see it again. I did pull a large knife and carry it in my hand until I got to my friend's camp. I am a very large and tough man; I wrestled collegiate heavyweight and grew up in mountainous areas. I knew that my backpack covered my back from my waist to about 3 or 4 inches above my head was great protection. Cougars generally like to ambush their prey, but my neck and back were covered with the backpack and I looked even much larger than I am. There was easier prey around than me. I was young and confident, I was hoping that the cougar attacked me, it would be a good story. I have seen them try to gut dogs when the cougar comes out of the tree, after the dogs treed it. They are dangerous, but are very careful choosing their prey. - The retired Idaho redneck accountant

Plus this version is way to slow, not hard corps enough, to the actual song and original. It’s meant to be fast, hard and sweeping, that being said, this isn’t bad…just slow and not near as good.

The guys in white shirts aren't officers yet. They are cadets and will become officers after graduation. I spend fours years there and graduated in 1970.

I didn't read the title fully but had thought it was the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. Turned out I was right. Tabernacle is their main building the sing in in Salt Lake City, Utah. Historically the Tabernacle is the area before and around the building holding The Holies of Holies room in which the Ark of the Covenant was stored. Of course with the Mormons there isn't an Ark or holies of holies. But the idea is to have the space available as a gathering place for their people. Though the Mormon Temple is only for those of the faith in good standing, the Tabernacle is available for the public as I understand it. A beautiful place.

@ottovonpoptart. I used to think this should be our National Anthem as well, until I read the full story of Francis Scott Key’s writing of the Star Spangled Banner. If you read it I think you’ll agree we have the right song. If not for reading that, I would completely agree this is the song.

Well done and a great ensemble! As a former West Point Glee Club member. BTW the final wedding scene of the movie Hello Dolly was filmed on this spot (Trophy Point). while I was a cadet.

Take a look at Disneyland's Candlelight for something similar. I have been lucky enough to be a member of the Disneyland Candlelight (Community) Choir for the last 16 years, this year was year 16 for me. It has changed several times over the last 16 years (and I am sure many times before that). Singing in this choir is one of the highlights of my year!
