NEW Direct Injection: How it works? | The Fine Print
One of the biggest changes to gasoline combustion engines in recent history is the mass adoption of direct injection technology. With direct injection, engines can run with higher compression ratios, higher boost, and higher efficiencies. The marvel has lead to widespread downsizing of engines, ditching large naturally aspirated engines in favor of smaller, turbocharged engines.

How Water Injection Systems Can Create More Horsepower?
มุมมอง 1.6Kหลายเดือนก่อน
Water is injected as a fine spray into the intake manifold plenum chamber where it evaporates, significantly lowering the temperature of the intake air. This reduces the final compression temperature in the combustion chamber, which also reduces the risk of knock, allowing the turbocharged engine to operate with higher boost pressure and earlier spark timing. The result is increased power and t...

    Yes, the power is gained from denser intake charge, cooler, and the increased timing that this will allow. Methanol and water injection is commonly used so that increased timing can then be run. If you don’t dynamically set the timing with water injection it can be really bad if you run out of water.

    I must see things differently. Water injection doesn't cool the intake charge. The cooling only occurs once the compression stroke starts. Just before ignition, cylinder temps are above 400C°, at which point the water has absorbed heat and turned to steam. When ignition occurs, the steam continues to absorb heat and expands at a rate greater than the accompanied air. This expansion boosts the force on the piston, increasing torque and keeps peak temperatures under 1100C° at which point Nitrogen will "burn" and create NOx emissions. If the engine is over rich, particulate count (soot, or carbon) skyrockets. It's not as simple as hosing down the intake with water and reeping the benefits. The engine has to be built for the purpose. Nitrous Oxide engines are a good example. Same for Alcohol, or NitroMethane. Build the engine knowing what it will run on, and it will take full advantage of the fuel.

    This is not a new idea. The German aircraft company Junkers was using a six cylinder version of this motor in a seaplane they were building before the start of WWII. The same motor was being used in commercial passenger aircraft that could fly non-stop from Germany to Argentina because they were so fuel efficient. The narrator of this video said the US military has been using this type of motor for 80 years. Since just after WWII. This is a technology that the US government has been keeping from the public all that time! This is something environmentalists should be upset about. Just think about how many billions of less barrels of fuel that would have been burned if the semi truck manufacturers had of started putting motor's like this in trucks right after WWII! A smaller version could have been used in cars too. The oil companies are, no doubt, the one's that actually behind keeping it suppressing it and still are, as far as I can tell. The Achates motor has been developed for about 10 years now and I still don't see it being offered or advertised in anything. Achates has or at least did have a video on TH-cam about it. He says in his video that his motor's are just an improved version of the Junkers motor. He has a 3 cylinder motor he developed to fit in full size pickup trucks and a 6 cylinder for semi trucks. I'm sure truck driver's, pickup driver's and car driver's would all love to buy a vehicle that gets 50% better mileage! But, the oil companies would loose billions per year in sales and the public would be able to keep all those billions of dollars. They can't have that!!!

    That is why if you floor it and the engine just drones, it is spooling up. In other words, one pully is opening up/getting wider and the other is closing up getting narrower. and they cannot do this instantly, it takes a while. I in essence that is how they change gears. You actually get faster acceleration if you progressively press on the accelerator as opposed to just smacking it to the floor.

    There is some incorrect information in this video. For example on the AWD the split between the front and rear is rarely 50/50. It's usually either 60/40 or 70/30. Also, there are variations of both AWD and 4WD so they are not all the same. Most AWD vehicles have a smart system so they are not giving power to all 4 wheels at once. It may be using only front wheel or rear wheel drive and then give power to the other wheels as they need it. I could go on but this is already long enough.

    • @marktaylor9083
      @marktaylor9083 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm not sure I agree with your explanation either. Quite simply a 4 wheel drive train has a locked center differential which evenly distributes power to the front and back of the vehicle. An all wheel drive train has an open center differential which allows any amount of power to be delivered to either axle. Modern traction control applies brakes to the free spinning wheel to limit power to the wheel with no traction which distributes that power to another wheel. All wheel drive is preferred for paved or solid surface driving to allow the vehicle to turn without putting stress on the drive train. The outside wheels need to turn more revolutions during a turn.

    This isn't completely true and depends on fitness, if your body is fit and in good shape you will suffer less internal injury at higher speed. Race drivers with zero crumple zones in open wheel vehicles often survive high speed accidents, yes the harnesses are different but the sudden force applied to the body is the same. The biggest difference is having a neck safety device, whether it be an airbag or a special racing device. airbags are not only to stop hitting the wheel/dash but can prevent necks breaking. Also modern cars don't allow the passenger area to deform.

    • @theclueguy3388
      @theclueguy3388 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No because the force is applied to the body differently. Most of those cars do have measures to protect the same way regular crumple zones protect and absorb
