Killer Whales Ambush A Pod of 1,000 Dolphins
This was an incredible encounter. I just happened to be in the right spot at the right time. It's very rare that everything comes together and we're able to document these types of encounters. We know it happens regularly with the common dolphins. But there's rarely someone there with their video camera focused and waiting for it to happen. Incredible morning on The Monterey Bay for me.

Killer Whales Kill A Gray Whale Calf Monterey Bay
มุมมอง 188K8 ปีที่แล้ว
This was our first killer whale attack on a gray calf we've seen this year. There were at least 10 killer whales.
Long-beaked Common Dolphin Stampede
มุมมอง 8K8 ปีที่แล้ว
This is what we usually see when orcas show up in the presence of dolphins. It happened quick. One second they were leisurely cruising along then next second they were in stampede mode. I wouldn't be surprised if a white shark showed up in the area. There have been more and more reports of white sharks in the area.
Rare Sighting of "Offshore" Type Orcas in the Monterey Bay
มุมมอง 5K8 ปีที่แล้ว
This was a very rare encounter with a type of orca that normally is found far offshore. They mainly feed on pelagic fish like tuna and sharks. So this was rare to see them so close to shore.
12-29-2015: Moss Landing Common Dolphins
มุมมอง 1K8 ปีที่แล้ว
We came across these long-beaked common dolphins right out in front of Moss Landing. There were also 4-6 humpbacks feeding in the area along with many species of birds.
The Moment A Pod of Seven Orcas Come Up On A Pod of 500 Long-beaked Common Dolphins
มุมมอง 11K9 ปีที่แล้ว
This was an incredible encounter. We had already been tracking a pod of about seven orcas when we could see the unmistakable splashes of dolphins coming our way about a mile to the north. Directly toward us and the orcas we were with. We suspected this could be interesting. The orcas disappeared when the dolphin pod was within about a 1/2 mile. After a few minutes, the dolphins immediately jump...
Kayaking with Mike and Giancarlo Part 2
มุมมอง 17K9 ปีที่แล้ว
This was an incredible experience. I've never seen so many humpback whales in one area. I'm out here on the Sanctuary almost every day as a whale boat operator. I can tell you, I've never seen this many whale so close together. At times, we had to be surrounded by 30 whales in less than a mile diameter area. It was intense.
Humpback Whale Breaches on Top of Kayakers
มุมมอง 7M9 ปีที่แล้ว
On our 08:00 am Sanctuary Cruises whale tour, just outside the harbor in Moss Landing, two kayakers on a tandam kayak were almost crushed to death by a massive, near full-size humpback whale. We stopped to see a large aggregation of humpbacks feeding and carrying on with random acts of hijinks. There were also a lot of kayakers right in the middle of it all. Humpbacks were coming up next to and...
Kayaking With Mike and Giancarlo
มุมมอง 6K9 ปีที่แล้ว
Magical morning kayaking with the humpback whales in Moss Landing. We started out in the dark. At first, we could only hear them. After about 15 -minutes of paddling in the dark, we started to get our first views what was out here. There were at least 40 humpback whales feeding all around us.
Moss Landing Whale Watching
มุมมอง 8K9 ปีที่แล้ว
Our late afternoon trips have been amazing. Here we came across some rampant lunge-feeding humpback whales.
Estoy leyendo el libro de Tom Mustill, el hombre al que le cayó la ballena encima, y tuve que venir a ver el vídeo.
S
In the end you definitely broke the law getting closer than 100 yards! That’s not cool.
Killer whales r hunting dolphins in the pacific ocean
Killer whales kill great white sharks
Two people are injured
リアルちいかわ島編
ゆる言語学ラジオから来ました。 御著者「クジラと話す方法(How to speak Whale)」 買います!!(^_^)v
Killer whales r smart
This is horrible!!!
Aren’t orcas a type of dolphin? So they are basically cannibals 😮
Beautiful ❤
Very disapointed they didn't try to save the dolphin
I would jumped in and said "cmon guys..."
I’m reading the book of the kayaker in the video, his name is Tom Mustill. It’s interesting seeing his view on what happened compared with what others saw. The books called ‘How to speak whale’
I don’t like orca! I wish death, disease and parasites to all whale killers!
hypocrites who went to seaworld are now against seaworld 🖕
Must read "how to speak whale" the writer who survived from the kayak " 👍👍👍
Drama under water.
Incredible
Keren banget
YT has put me on an Orca run and I like it. This is incredible footage.
For fucks sake stop talking omg 😬
They're not just eating it. They are sharing it. Taking turns. Everybody gets fair share.
Just heard the filmmaker who was in the kayak being interviewed. The video was later analysed by an animal movement expert and they concluded that this was wholly accidental and in fact the whale saw them as it breached and twisted aside as it fell to avoid landing right on top of them.
That makes sense, Humpback whales are very intelligent.
The great and interesting images to view original
This may be the one video where i would have preferred music to nature, he just kept going and he only said 2 or 3 phrases he just was on repeat. His record player must have been broken 🤣🤣🤣🤣 J/k big guy ✊🏻♥️
1000 dolphins? Why exaggerate so much? There are more close to 100 dolphins.
A truly unique opportunity to witness a pod of Orcas hunting together. These are probably transient Orcas as Resident pods feed primary on salmon and other fish species. Transient pods do hunt marine mammals as part of their diet. 💪🏼🙏🏻✨
I hate that Orcas kill dolphins and other larger whales and their calves.
Yes, and some of the larger whales they hunt, kill and only eat the tongue. This common dolphin, there wasnt much eaten from its body. At least lions and wolves finish the prey that they catch.
I think that most killer whales an orcas are very nice and sweet and one thing how to sign up to save more whales and killer whales to set free into the ocean and I believe in into the science prayer of the killer whale Selena IU iasis
To the smaller dolphins, these orcas must seem as the giants of myth are described to us: vicious brutes that kill and devour everything in sight. Count ourselves lucky that we have no such adversary on land or sea. EDIT: Feel I should clarify that I've no ill will towards the orcas. I think they're fascinating creatures in their own right, as are all other ceteceans.
Fuck orcas they should leave dolhins alone.
no no no the kayakers waded into the whales feeding grounds and possibly hurt the whale as it was trying to breach with the big plastic kayak
Today the orcas are attacking and disabling boats in their waters! Just like they ambushed these dolphins they now plan together and ambush sail and fishing boats, they was happy to just hang around the fishing boats and take whatever dropped out of the nets but good ole man has to be superior and harpoon or toss dynamite at them like they are just a dumb big fish that man could kill their pod members and it was ok because MAN is smarter, tobad man didn't anticipate orcas remember everything!! Just like that movie long ago , the man killed a female orca and was hosting her up on the boat she was pregnant and her baby dropped out he hosed it off into the ocean all the while the male orca was there watching, he chased that man all over the world in his boat killing off the people he cared for untill be could finally kill him! Yes it was fiction a movie but it shows how well these big orcas can think! Man today captured thier babies to stick in tanks for human entertainment, man disrespects their home over fishes, leaves trash and oil spills them shoots at them for trying to survive! So far orcas have never attacked a human in the water only the ones in captivity and going insane has killed humans, after years of performing four to five times a day in a small tank with chemical treated water that causes them to go blind over time and 0 sun protection in a tank not deep enough to escape the suns rays their skin burns, the famous Tilkum went crazy and killed 3 people before they finally stopped putting humans in with him, man has done horrific things to thes beautiful intelligent whales and now they are pissed and it's pay back time!!!
Oh my God this, is not at all like the blacklight poster from my childhood!!! lol xD
Fish eating Orca are my favorite. Cannibals not so much. I think I would have cried, not so happy and excited. This guy should have cut his engine instead of moving in closer. Disappointing.
Bros reaction, you're a loser bud.
Orcas hunt as a pod, for the pod. So why did they (the pod) kill single dolphin, and not eat it straight away? Perhaps the dolphin was killed to feed a specific member or members such as the very young, or maybe the dolphin kill, and its carcass is but one part of a complex bait and lure, encircle and ambush scheme, calculated to increase prey density within the target area, whereby, maximizing its returns (food), whilst expending the least amount of time and energy.
😶
Breaching is a way for a whale to show its power, size, health, and happiness. This whale that breached on these kayakers wasn't doing it intentionally. They just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. But notice how the whale spins during its breach, which is unusual. This whale noticed the kayakers in its path before coming down, so it turned to avoid a direct collision, which if it occurred, could have killed them. The skull of the whale and the top part of its mouth is one solid bone. Being struck by this portion of the whales head can been fatal!
I saw what you saw. The whale corrected away from the kayak mid breach. Consequently did not 'stick the landing'. That's a 4/10 from the female humpback judges. I noticed mid breach, the whale's eyes seem to briefly protrude. Is that possible?
@@jamieb4687 I didn't notice any protrusion of the eyeballs. Might have been barnacles. Whales can't protrude their eyeballs, but they do have eyelids to protect their eyes from hazards and irritants.
They didn’t give a crap that those people got body slammed by a whale
They're fine. It inspired one of them to write a book
Awesome breach! That was a tandem sit inside kayak, that's a lot of force!
It's beautiful, they're in the ocean right where they belong.
They lived! For anyone interested, one of the people in the kayak is a wildlife filmmaker, and he's writing a book about this experience and how it inspired him to learn about animal communication. it's called How to Speak Whale and comes out this summer.
Yes, it’s out now and reads great! Looks like the whale actually avoided crushing them.
Just finished the book. Great read!
That was one hell of an interesting read. Felt like I was watching a movie.
Thank you, God, they live.
Book is called How To Speak Whale by Mustill.
Gross reactions. Laughing and clapping? A whale just bodyslammed some people
It’s sort of cool how Killer Whales hunt dolphins but still, I still love dolphins
Well, that'll screw you outta of good day of kayak fishing!😂
Thanks for sharing this video!
they freakin clapped!! nuts & was entertained! I cannot!!
Imagine this were you at home about to eat dinner and a guy pops up in your kitchen with his camera out... "Alright people Scott is about sit down to dinner.. Looks how he devoured that chicken carcass..this is amazing look at him swallow those mashed potatoes" 🤦🤦
