A beautiful room for a magician. I am quite fascinated to watch them at work. How much time did you need for the production?
Thank you. It is somewhere around 20 hours pure work plus a lot of breaks waiting for things to dry
From one diorama builder to another, absolutely phenomenal..
I have a couple of questions...what scale would you say it is..and how long did it actually take you to build it? It's really cool..the more I look at it,the more I like it..
So fun!
Love it! Looks great!❤
I love this! ♥ So much detail and... it's a wizard. ♥ Suggestion for books in the future... cut your covers (can be done in a strip if you want) and glue them over foam board (white is best), then use a knife to cut them out. No paper pages, and they look good at that scale.
That was the plan, simple version for the shelving and a few more detailed for the piles on the tables but I got carried away! It was good practice though.
The best thing about color laser printers is that the toner never dries out in the print head. Each toner purchase is more expensive than an ink purchase, but you actually get to use it rather than throwing it out. That said, with the right printer paper and regular use, the best inkjet prints are notably nicer than the best laser prints. If you're printing photos on gloss paper with the intent of framing them and hanging them on the wall, inkjet is better. For everything else, I much prefer color laser. And now I just send my color photo prints out to a dedicated printing provider. This costs less than buying a new set of ink tanks each time I go on a vacation and the results are quite nice. And I'm much less frustrated. FWIW.
Thank you, that confirms what I was thinking which makes my decision to go laser far more comfortable.
Those long precision tips for CA glue bottles will only clog at the very end. You only need to cut it off a few mm from the tip and it should work fine. They are extra long so you can cut them many times, but replacement tips are also available at any model train shop or of course online. Great build, BTW.
Thanks for the info! I so wish I had a train shop close by. The nearest would be a 3 hour round trip, there used to be loads close by. Amazon it is!
@@dodgydioramas It is sad, we just lost our friendly local hobby shop, which served the entire Western Montana region for over 50 years. Hobby Lobby, which opened here 8 months ago, has a laughably scant selection of actual hobby supplies, even if I was willing to give them any money. I am now forced to order online too. :(
There's a warehouse chain here called Hobby Store, which sounds the same, totally useless and overpriced
Hobby Craft!!!
Haha, does yours have eight large aisles of tacky lawn ornaments, and one quarter of one side of a short aisle for actual hubby supplies? If so then it is exactly like Hobby Lobby.
I love it! ❤
Really cool diorama. I use those glue tips. They will slowly clog over time and you can cut the piece off. Amazon has nice cheap boxes of them to replace when needed 😊😊😊
Thanks for the tip!
@ you are welcome 🤗
Fantastic build, a cozy wizard's study.
I think I was building my dream room
How you going! Happy New Year mate. I hope you had a good Christmas it's great to see you back. I hope you got some croquet in during the holidays. Love the new diorama and was very happy to know you were also a fan of the discworld books! The super glue tube mystery is something I'm also confused about.
Happy New Year, Croquet finished in November and won't start until March/April, the grounds to squidgy in winter. Discworld is my all-time favourite.
@dodgydioramas my mistake, I'm not familiar with the seasons and weather in the UK. God I miss those book series and other great authors in that genre! It's a shame I haven't read a complete novel or even a paperback in 4 years probably, and I used to just devour books when I was younger.
Yes! Discworld mention! 😁💜 I absolutely love what you've done, the attention to detail is fantastic 🙌🏼
Thank you, I'm a big fan of Discworld
The LED adds so much!!! I made a way less large bookshelf for a project a bit ago, it is amazing how much books compact down when shelving! Haha! I found that plenty of scrolls and clutter on the shelves was a big help! Beautiful job!!!
Thank you, I could have got away with a simpler construction for the books on the shelves, but I wanted to test how long it would take doing it this way, at some point I want to construct a big library.
Great build - perhaps a few big books lying flat would have filled the shelf! And I know he’s a wizard but a stove like that needs a cat curled up nearby.
There are some rats, so yes, he could do with a cat
Hello Dodgy! Long time viewer here! I love the grungy fantasy vibe your channel has :), If I could suggest some video builds I would suggest making a dungeons and dragons inspired diorama as its pretty trendy right now, and it matches the style of your previous builds. Sure it wouldnt be a sponsor, but imagine the view count 🐉⚔lol. Another Idea I had was Skyrim, I think it would be so cool to see how you'd make an argonian wizard in the setting of a cave called "Brittleshin Pass". It features stone pillars, mossy texture, wood steps, mushrooms, chests, metal cages all sorts of goodies. I youtubed searched the cave, and the very first video the guide one shows a great level of a detailed walkthrough in the cave for reference material. Of course its just a suggestion! can never have too many wizards 🧙♂(EDIT->) I also wanted to mention that youtube doesnt mind about fast uploads, it seems to matter a lot about what the content is, and suggesting putting a title of something popular in your video may help search results pop up more!) I've seen popular youtubers who only upload once a year and still get millions of views!) Have a wonderful rest of your day/night
Thank you for all the suggestions. A scene with a dragon is definitely on the cards, and Skyrim is a good idea. I played it a long time ago.
Beautiful build.
Thank you!
Very well done Sir, that diorama is first class. Maybe a flicker LED next time you make a fire.
Yes, that would be great I must get some.
'I want it to look hand made and imperfect' says the chap turning out a hand made and perfect little gem.
Thank you
The lighting from the windows and the 🧸 are a sweet relief from the dark haunting room. The details are as always topnotch. 😊
Thank you, the light streaming through the windows was the starting point.
The sound of glee when I logged on after a long day to see you had uploaded a new project!! The focus and imagination is brill to watch. Your videos feel like old YT, so exploratory and interesting. This one is a new fav :)✨️📚
Thank you, I hope it takes off this time, views have been a bit low of late
@dodgydioramas the algorithm is so fickle - but your projects are always quality and we appreciate the time and effort regardless 🙏:)
I don't think TH-cam doesn't like my low posting schedule.
That's such a fun diorama to watch come to life 😄
Thank you
Don't worry about 3D-printing. It's totally acceptable to save time. You still had to create and print them objects virtually. And yes, fire, lights, glowing objects they do require leds, especially when there's a dark surrounding. It worked out great. 😊
I do like how productive we can be with all the new tools available to us and yes I should have guessed the fire was never going to work with just paint.
Awesome wizard and wizards room🧙♂️
Thank you, great little wizard icon
Maybe rinse acetone through that superglue tube, I'm not sure however if that tube is resistant to super glue though. The diorama looks great by the way. Cheers!
Thanks, I'll give that a try
How’s this machine now?
It's working well-no different from when I first used it, and I've used it quite heavily. It's still on the first lens without even needing to clean it, so who knows how long it will last? I'm very happy with it.
@ absolutely brilliant…thanks for replying!
Excellent info.. Just looking at one of these, hopeful in the shed soon maybe even better that my 3040 CNC
It's now my most used tool
I would love to see this in a "baba yaga" house diorama that looks awesome
Yeah, maybe I'll put it on the possible list 👍
Superbe !!
I really like this. Looks fantastic
Thank you
This is stunning. If you could at some point do a piece on getting started using the Cricut for dioramas, that'd be nice. If you have time.
Thank you. I should use it again. Since getting the laser cutter, I've been using that instead, but the Cricut is a lot cheaper and works really well
I watched ALL 29:49 in fascination! This turned out great, u sure have a talent for it. I reckon hanging out with you for a wkend talking shit & making a diorama like this (over a few bevvys maybe 😉 )would be fab fun! New sub here 😀 ETA, I really enjoyed ur commentary too, you explained everything well & why you were doing it X way instead of Y way etc etc. For someone who just came across this vid by sheer accident, I'm so glad I did! Now imma go binge watch ur other vids!!
Thank you. Yeah, a model building social event would be very cool
Great model.
What a gorgeous scene!!! Beautifully detailed ❤😊❤
I'm not so much into dodgy. But this is a lot of fun to watch.
DRAMATIC, FANTASTIC, and can't wait to see more 😊
Glad you enjoyed it!
I really like it. Also, there is no better way to find a lost tool than buy a new one. Works every time at my house. I now have 4 DeWalt safety goggles. 😂
Ha, ha. I could lose a lathe
Very well done Sir.
Looks absolutely class! I do have one question, what figure is that you used? It looks amazing and I would love to get my hands on it
All the figures come from Loot Studios
Fantastic diorama.
That looks so awesome! The effect with the tree canopy is perfect, and I love the variety of trees! Excellent job!!!
Thanks
@@dodgydioramas For sure!
Beautiful dio, very haunting and fitting the season.
Thank you
i really like this and find it inspiring. 👏👏👏👏😉
Thank you! 😊
freaking awesome !!! great video !! please do not feel you need to rush your work ... take your time. we can wait right here for you 😁💟❣💟❣
Thanks, I don't rush. I just wish I had more time available
Would you consider making the plans for the enclosure available? I could use them for a few dioramas I have in mind. Thank you for all your works, Pat.
I would just don't know how to make the file available.
@@dodgydioramas Have you ever seen "Bentley House Minis" web site? She does these all the time with her rooms. I'm sure you could find out how to do this from her. It would make a beautiful room box. Pat
There you are! Well worth the wait. Have you tried a thingy you file hard skin off your feet with - usually in Poundland or similar stores that claim everything is a pound but they are lying - to coarsely scrape off chunks of foam. Love the cracked dowels and seafoam trees. PS the old eyes thing - how about filming as you paint and viewing on your PC? Works for me.
Oh a pumice stone?
I like the idea of that and can see it working. Next time I'm down the chemist, I'll get one.
@@Humblerbumble I mean the ones with a metal cheese grater type file on a plastic handle. Very sharp.
I've seen them, now you mention cheese grater. I wonder how that would work also
Very cool. And a compliment from Nerdforge! High praise indeed. 😄
Certainly is, fell off my chair when I saw that.
It, the AI, also has some issues knowing what a chimney is for, and where, exactly those should be placed, and why it shouldn't be in on top of where a Window is. :D
Yes, lots of weird things happen. Extra limbs seem quite common
This turned out so cool and I love that you went the harder route on alot of the areas where you could have cut them with the cricut or 3d print more parts! Great work. I am curious how long the entire process took?
Hard to say, 40 hours ish
I really like the slightly skew POV you used, really inventive and interesting. When I visited London, I was amazed at the amount of moss on the roofs all around me. We don’t get that at home where I live In Brisbane.
Yeah, needs a very damp climate
Excellent and more than a bit sad…
