The price would be better if they were $5000/pair (about twice the price of the new in November 2024 Super Linton) instead of $7000, but they'd likely have to be made in communist China instead of the U.K. to get to that price point. Nothing wrong with employing British citizens. My concern is that Stereophile did a review in April 2024 and gave them a "recommended" rating, but noted they are "a demanding load for the partnering amplifier", having Effective Resistance (EPDR) below 3 ohms between 65 Hz and 362 Hz and as low as 1.76 ohms at 81 Hz. That makes me pause and wonder if my vintage Carver amp would be "happy" playing them. Amps generally sound best when they are happy. I'd like to hear Peter comment on these observations and his design considerations. I'm sure the Dovedale could fill a larger room better than the Linton without sounding small, that is true, but how much better?

I'd be so interested in a new Audiolab pre-amp to replace my faithful old 8000Q, but where are my tape loops, I still need tape loops. It wouldn't add that much to the price to make it heritage compatible, and in todays competitive market, unique. Those 3 tape loops on the old 8000Q are like gold dust to some folks. Guess if the Q goes wrong I'm looking at a second hand one or a repair.

sadly Wharfedale don't apply any UV protection, so the Walnuts and Mahogany change colour over a very short period of time (weeks) if anywhere near a window

Meanwhile quads are trash; very unreliable and they don’t put out much bass without a sub. Great on simple jazz vocals, horrible on complex dynamic recordings

Pointless.

These are new licensed versions of the original design, but they are still great value for money and sound good. Not really suited to high volume levels playing bass-heavy music, but for more moderate levels in smaller rooms, they're very good indeed.

I am firmly of the opinion that any improvement noticed by bi-wiring is almost entirely due to the removal of those dreadful cheap metal shorting links manufacturers seem inexplicably happy to ship their speakers with. They are more or less just packaging. Replace them with a short piece of good quality speaker cable and the improvement will equal if not exceed bi-wiring.

Evo 4.4 has really bad crossovers made by the cheapest components and wires, this made me NOT buy the speaker. Also ... "Made in china" , an english speaker company that has their speakers made in china..

He makes the Lintons sound like inferior speakers with that presentation, and not worth buying. Most manufacturers would emphasize the qualities of both without trashing the more economical unit.

They are amazing little speakers, especially for that price.

This was actually really helpful, the walnut is the clear winner for me and the ones I went for.

But that’s audio for you. Diminishing returns. A LOT more money for incremental improvements. Yes you can hear the difference, but! That’s why the Lintons sell so well. They are very very good in performance and looks for the price. To people that don’t know audio they are expensive but to those that do they are an absolute bargain. Every now and then they just hit all the right tones at the right time. No pun intended. 😂

Owning the lintons and absolutely loving them, like really love them, if I had the money I’d absolutely give the doves a crack. On my wish list.

I like bi-amping for being able to supply more power to the speakers, either with multiple amps or an AVR.

Just bought the Lintons and I love them. I’ve had all sorts, Rogers, Linn, ATC SCM 20’s but although they all have their incredible sound, some more detailed, or faster etc, there really is something about the whole, the totality of the lintons that is just wonderful, in such a way that if I was forced to keep just one pair it probably would be them.

The original Aston from 1970 had a special single driver. These new Aston's appear to be just a variation on the newer Denton.

I wish to hear but no one sells in Turkiye.

I'm still yet to see anybody pass a double-blind abx test on a pair of bi wired speakers vs non bi wired speakers. If you think you can hear a difference please make a video of you doing a double-blind test and show us that you can hear The Difference. Talk is cheap. If you can't show it, you don't know it

Two of the speakers that I am giving very serious consideration of buying. The Evo 4.4 would suit my room and furniture position better as they would be near to a wall and record racks and their height would be perfect for my listening position. I love all kinds of music but rock in all its guises is played most of the time. The Lintons would probably suit my Linn Sondek vinyl playing system better but I also have thousands of CD’s so I don’t know what to choose and the price with speaker stands is the same as the Evo. Also looks like the Lintons have real wood veneer. I also have a problem being housebound so it is virtually impossible to get to a dealer to audition. I need to rely on other people’s opinions instead of just my own to make a balanced decision.

I love my QUADs ESL 2805. Never heard such detailed and live-like sound. It is as if the instruments are here in the room with me. I cannot wait to hear what the ESL-X sound like.
