amazing! congratulations. looking forward for more videos! would be great if you can post the Planning process for your youtube!
Beautiful! which FD did you use? any speedboster?
It really did change. You bloomed.
Sounds Awesome, you got this!!! I'm approaching this year with similar goals 👍
ich find das lustig, du hast selber nicht film studiert, möchtest aber andere unterrichten darüber. "zeig mir dases dir nur ums geld geht ohne mir zu sagen, dass es dir nur ums geld geht"
@frankenstein2735 oh no I’m exposed, what will I do now 😰 take a look at the work I’ve produced and then tell me I don’t know sh*t to teach others.
Love to see you again Aya ... and we all need this mindset! Definitely need to take on more projects that I WANT to shoot not what just lands in the inbox. Be cool to hear how you do out reach and pitching in more depth :)
@@darylswalker Daryl, thank you 🫶 Prepping one the topic of pitching soon!
Can't wait for more from ya this year Aya! Love the confidence to put this out here as accountability too fr, all the best!!🙂
You've had a big influence on my personal film career - keep going👊
Means so much Bryan! Thank you for your support 🫶 let’s go!!
Oh, I'm excited. More Content, nice! I'm starting on TH-cam this year too. Greets from germany
That’s so awesome!! Let’s goo! 🙌
Love this mindset. I really enjoy your approach to creating more meaningful work and valuing your time.
Thank you Cory! Took me some time to appreciate my own time more, but this year is all about that 🫶
Hey Aya! First off, huge congratulations on your second year on TH-cam! 🥰Thank you for sharing your honest thoughts; I really resonate with so much of what you said. A lot of it reflects where I’m at right now, too. I think it’s amazing that you’re planning to focus more on TH-cam and building your personal brand this year - funny enough, that’s exactly the direction I’m heading in as well. TH-cam is such a powerful platform to express yourself creatively and I guess long-form content feels so much more meaningful. This year, I’ve made a similar decision: I want to spend more time both creating and consuming content on TH-cam, instead of endlessly scrolling on other platforms. There’s just something about the depth and authenticity here that makes it stand out. I can’t wait to see what you’ll create and how you’ll grow your personal brand. I’m sure it’s going to be incredible! And best of luck with your online academy Herfilmschool. I love the idea of empowering more women in the industry. The world definitely needs more female voices in filmmaking. 😊
Lisa, thank you for the kind message! That sounds amazing, I’m excited for you. I also believe starting with TH-cam has a great potential and is always a good time to start, somehow feels more meaningful to me than reels haha, but I gotta play the game. And I’m beyond excited for Her film school next week! ❤️
Good Luck Aya! I've made 2025 the same for me, concentrating on TH-cam and personal branding and definitely know how you feel...
Thank you! Best of luck to you too. I’m sure it’ll be an exciting journey!
Well done, Aya!
Mind crediting the author and book you're quoting at the opening of your video? Love the info you offer here but I was disappointed to find not even a mention of this author in the text credits.
@@alihmg The author was actually quoting another person in the book so I thought it would confuse people. Anyways the book is Very Good Copy by Eddie Shleyner. :)
@@lostinayaland Thank you so much! :) I googled it and ChatGPT suggested it may have originally been traced to a Steve Jobs quote, but not necessarily one of Jobs' books, so this makes total sense that it would have been hard to quote-within-a-quote! Thanks for replying! Really admire your channel-you have a new subscriber!
loved this video! subscribed! it was so helpfull and def loved the first part and the way you weaved in the footage of you directing! Which was the book you were mentioning at first?
Thank you Denise! It’s “Very Good Copy” by Eddie Shleyner.
In October 2024 I brought a brand new Komodo 6k for $3500 hundred bucs. Considering the camera retail cost is $4,995, I had to buy it.
GREAT VIDEO 🔥
Thanks so much!!
Does it get annoying having to wait for it to heat up to the optimal temp and having to black shade the sensor?
It's just semantics. Saying that no one produces anything "original" is a fallacy. Your idea may be similar or identical to someone else's idea, but carrying it out by yourself is already producing something original, because you and your perspective are unique.
There is no right or wrong to this, it’s kind of like faith, you believe in whatever works for you and keeps you going.
This video made me a subscriber.
Hey that was nicely done. Simple and clear with lots of helpful insights. And your mellow vibe was a welcome change from all those people who feel the need to shout their reviews into the camera. Peace out!
Hey, thx for this video. What is this book you are talking about at the beginning of the video ? many thks
It’s ‘Very good copy’ - Eddie Shleyner
Love it, such a nice video and love your personality. BTW great setup
Thann you so much Krystian!
Hi Aya, thanks for the vid, great pieces of advice. I love your camera work, too. !! Watch out, I think you got 2 dead pixels on the camera you used for the recordings, it´s close to the right of your face. I find the composition of your talking head has a slight shift to the left bottom of the frame, cause it´s pretty empty and white on this side. When it´s sunny I find the overexposed window not very appealing neither. Have a grat week. Yeah and I also wanna know if you use pro mist 1/8 or 1/4 for your shoots...
I see a red pixel on the bottom left, on the shadows of the table. I thought it was my monitor, the dead pixel on your shadow cheek it seems green/yellow. Maybe blackshade your sensor. a side of that Aya, awesome advice!
Ha! Thank you both of you! I didn’t notice that until now, it’s the first video I do with that camera actually. Might need to black balance it or check with the sensor, anyways not the biggest issue for social media. Thanks for the kind words. @Frank, yes I used a Tiffen 1/4 black pro mist and a 2-5 stop Polar Pro VND.
Setup is cool, but the blown out window is not.
Haha might need to add one more stop on the ND next time, I kind of liked it 😄
@lostinayaland its your channel! Im just a visitor ;) and taste is also personal ofcourse!
Thank you so much for your videos Aya, really inspiring, love your vulnerability and authenticity! I've been thinking about doing videos like this for a wile and i will start after seeing your videos
Go for it! And thank you so much 🙏
Thank you for this 🙏
Any time!
Great insights! BTW, just a relatively trivial question: which lens filter do you have for your talking shot? I like the tight halation. it's pretty.
Thank you! I’m using a Sigma Art 24mm F1.4 with a Tiffen 1/4 black pro mist.
@@lostinayaland O! TLDR: Try out filter emulations in post :) Thanks for including your lens choice because maybe it's the wide angle that's letting the halation look better than I usually expect from Black Pro Mists! The more zoomed in, the more magnified the halo appears. I recently went through an obsessive phase researching glass filters, trying to prioritize which to invest in first for a project... ended up getting a Tiffen 1/8 Pearlescent. (it was half off on sale and the others slightly higher on my wishlist, like Opaline, are over a hundred dollars more, or not available as circular screw-ons...) But now I'm finding it can be more useful to save diffusion until post, where we can tweak things between shots, or spacial or temporal parts of shots. There are several good plugins for realistic emulations of all the popular filters you could spend tons of money buying. Also, looking more closely at the type of cinematic films I'm inspired by, there usually isn't as much dramatic glow as one might imagine. Often just a narrow softness around the blown out edges of light sources. I'm playing with the Tiffen Soft FX filter emulation in DaVinci Resolve and going to try isolating a max strength of it to only around highlights, so it doesn't need to overly smooth faces.
2:11 this language needs to be studied...
We study it regularly 😇
Loved the video! 🤗 It was packed with insights and value-I’ve hit the follow button! 🚀 I especially enjoyed your breakdown of the storytelling aspect. So many filmmakers focus solely on visuals (and there are already a million videos about that), but this? This is the real gold. It’s the missing piece most creators don’t talk about. Quick question, if you don’t mind sharing: Are you using any filters on your lenses for the talking head section? The visuals look stunning, and the lighting is beautifully diffused. I’d love to know if a specific filter or setup is making it look so great! 😊
Thanks so much! I really appreciate it! I love talking about storytelling so that motivates me to continue pushing in that direction. Yes I’m using a combination of a Polar Pro 2-5 VND and a Tiffen 1/4 Black pro mist. 😊
@ Thank you! Looking forward to watching more vids from you 😊🙏🏼
So much value once again! Keep going ❤
Thank you baby 🥰

Thanks so much!
Was really hoping for my example footage , as that’s what we’re here for
Hi Aya, great video! I was wondering how long this battery setup lasts. Do you have any information on that?
@@FilmsStern hey, thanks so much! I recently got a few of the smallrig np-f970 because you can also see the battery percentage on the back. But normally an npf of that size lasts me for a few hours. I’ve noticed that 2-3 last me perfectly for one full day on set.
@@lostinayaland Hi, thanks for the quick reply! Really appreciate that :)
Just for reference. A non-global shutter sensor will capture the image data from the sensor top to bottom, and depending on the readout speed of the sensor, this will cause the skewed ‘jello’ effect, as the image has essentially shifted before the camera has finished capturing the whole frame. Global just captures the whole frame simultaneously. I love global, it’s hard to go back to rolling.
@@sittingnow thank you for explaining it so good. Totally agree
Great tips!
Glad it was helpful! <3
Благодаря ти!
I totally relate with this video. And yes, I don`t fall into this new gear desperate consuming. I`m still using my DSLRs, Canon 6D Mark I, and fortunately upscaling to 4K or 8K on the program, if needed. I am much more focused in mastering my cameras and on learning to create great content and great films with what I already have, instead of worrying about how many Ks or outo focus my cameras have.

Hey Aya. I am Olavo Santiago and I am writing from Portugal. Congrats for you courage and for putting yourself out there Aya. I just found your channel and I am watching your videos, from the beginning, and its pretty clear that you were made for this and you will be very successful. Plus, your courage in putting yourself out there is motivating me to start talking more about the content I make. Keep the good work. Best regards

point no.2 occurs to me..when we already set up a good storyline with a smooth clips and flows, and they just want to add this and add that. makes me a bit annoying.we know they are they ones who's paying us, but for me whats the point they hire us and we cant do our best job
I feel your frustration. Honestly I adopted this mindset that if it’s not a project that’s near and dear to my heart I am willing to make more compromise on the outcome. If however that’s not the case I am direct in my communication and try to remain clear and kind while gently carrying my initial vision throughout.
Looks really nice
Thank you!
This is powerful! Unreal visuals matched with a beautiful story of these two lovers! Also makes me miss Gran Canaria :O

Always valuable insight Aya :) Lesson 4 hits home haha always wanting to include EVERYTHING that looks good.
Haha it’s a hard one to swallow. Thanks amigo 🙌
Nice
Thank you :)
I'm interested in how you organize and pull in from you BTS database. Are you using "dynamic project switching?? Great videos btw.
What I recently did was - I selected, graded and exported every single b-roll clip individually. The file structure follows the date and project name and I now have a gigantic database of clips I can work with. My next plan is investing in a ai file categorization software and being able to find what I’m looking for in an instant
