Bantam Trick Chickens
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 8 มี.ค. 2019
We are the Bantam Trick Chickens. Bantam means miniature chicken, and my chickens Lucky and Miracle are old English game bantams. Lucky is the silver duckwing variety and Miracle is the black breasted red variety. They are 7 years old and were hatched from eggs. Both love to perform tricks and agility. My name is Ria, and I am 17 years old. I began training Lucky and Miracle to peck targets when they were little, but I was unaware of the variety of tricks that existed until a year later when I made them an Instagram account.

These videos are from 2021, when we let Lucky hatch her own chicks. Unfortunately, they were all roosters, so we gave them to a friend of ours. Some of them are show birds, and one is free range and loves to sleep in the trees. I have more footage of the chicks, so there may or may not be a series on how I raised them eventually. Otherwise, this is a progression of their flying skills as they g...

How to Teach Your Chicken to Jump a Hurdle! (Old Tutorial)
Quick question, does duct tape that isn’t transparent work too?
@Epikcrate I wouldn't recommend using duct tape as it defeats the purpose of seeing the treat. Also, repeatedly pecking the glue on the tape probably isn't good for the chickens either. However, you can encourage the chicken to peck the target by drawing a black dot in pencil on the tip of the target. The natural curiosity of chickens will most likely get them to peck the target without any treats attached.
@@BantamTrickChickens thank you so much for answering! I will get to work tomorrow!
Great. Now what is the point of a target?
Target training is a great way to start training chickens since it is a relatively easy trick to teach. The target is useful as a tool for teaching other tricks. I have tutorials for the tricks "spin and twist" as well as "foot stall" that include information on how you can include target training as you teach new tricks. Here is a link to the playlist: th-cam.com/play/PLI8O6OIR1gdHinaxRmXcsA3ufJUKAujpr.html&si=Yi4T-edZXT-3TDN6 :)
So cute❤
WHOO TALIA, LUCKY, AND MIRACLE
Can you use your voice instead of a clicker?Example I use a "coo"call similar to a quail to call my chickens to come to me.That means I usually have a treat.
Yes! You can use your voice instead of a clicker. A clicker is helpful because it produces a short and consistent sound, making it easier to reward the exact behavior your chickens are performing. I use my voice by saying "bravo" when I do tricks with my chickens, and they understand it means they will get a treat for a trick they performed. However, I'd recommend sticking to one syllable words or sounds like "yes." I like to use a clicker when I am teaching my chickens a new trick so they can learn a new behavior faster. Once they know a trick, I don't really need to use a clicker, although I do sometimes.
@@BantamTrickChickens Thank you. That was very helpful.
Merry Christmas! Love your chickens!!
Thank you! Merry Christmas to you too!🎄🐓

How you haven’t gone viral is crazy! My sisters has chickens and I never thought much of them but wow they are amazing animals and you are an amazing trainer. Wish you the best!

Thank you for the tutorial! Your chooks are so cute!
I love bantams! I really want Old English Game, too! Are they hard to teach? You've done a great job; they're really cute, and beautiful, healthy looking birds! 😁
Thank you! Old English Game are a wonderful breed! My oegb are super energetic so they learn pretty quickly :)
Fantastic! I want to trick train some of my chickens too! 🙂
Those are some very talented chickens!
Glad to have you back!
Hard working tiny chickens! ♥🐔🤟🏼
Do you think you could do a tutorial video on how to teach a chicken to do the trick where they jump up on your feet when you are laying on the ground and you "walk in the air"? You are so impressive with your chickens! If you could do some more tutorial videos on how you do different tricks I would love to know how to do them! If it doesn't work for you to do more though I completely understand. Thanks, Heidi
Just posted a new trick tutorial for that: th-cam.com/video/neI_TX7bi1Q/w-d-xo.html
@@BantamTrickChickens Thank you so much! This really helped me! Especially the "remember" section at the end. My hen often walks away to do something else and I would get so frustrated thinking she had enough treats and wasn't going to do it anymore. Then I would get confused as to why a few minuets later she would come back. This has helped me so much to understand that she is overwhelmed and wait patiently for her. 😀 Thanks, Heidi
I love hens i tren my hens to the nams is Ambar And Ammy
Nice it’s working for me Ty 😊
I like your watching your vid 🎉
This is amazing I wish you would teach how to make it stand on your feet

Awesome!
Hi, I'm from Trusted Media Brands, an LA-based media company. We would like to work with one of your videos. Please reply for more information. Thanks!
What is the benifit of this training?
It improves your bond with your chickens and makes it more interesting to spend time with them. It is also entertaining and fun for your chickens! :)
Hi, I am seeking a hi res photo of a hen doing any behavior like agility reinforced by treats. Are you using a clicker as well? If you want to share a photo for a magazine editorial, please let me know. Amy Robinson Dog Training. Thanks!
Amazing
Hi, I love your channel! I like training my chickens and have clicker/target trained one of my hens from your tutorial. Do you have to start training them as chicks to do the more advanced tricks? Also, do you have any tips for getting chickens to concentrate? I use mealworms, but my hen only seems to pay attention when it is convenient for her, she pecks the target but if I move it she won't follow it? Thanks, Heidi.
Hi Heidi! I'm glad you enjoyed my tutorial and trained your hen! Here are my answers to your questions: You do not have to start training them as chicks to do the more advanced tricks. Chickens of all ages can learn new tricks, although some tricks may be slightly more difficult to teach. For flight training like in this video, it is very helpful to start young because they will become very confident in their flying abilities. If they start flying at an older age they will be more hesitant, but they can still learn to fly fairly well. To help chickens concentrate, I like to keep the training sessions short. Try to end the sessions before the chickens show signs of boredom (not paying attention, cleaning their beaks...). This will leave the chickens with a very positive experience, and they will be more focused during the next session. It is difficult as a trainer to cut sessions short, especially when the chicken is performing very well. However, long term, it seems to be the best approach. Keep in mind that some chickens may be very quick, while others are slower. My hen is super speedy, and will often perform tricks one after another very quickly (sometimes making mistakes haha). However, my rooster is much slower and will take his time before he performs a trick, making sure he is doing it correctly. It is possible that your hen is just slower, and therefore you may have to wait longer for her to peck the target. If this is the case, as she trains, she will gradually become faster. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask again! Thanks, Ria
@@BantamTrickChickens Thank you so much for your response! It helped me to conclude that I am probably making the training sessions too long and she is showing both signs of boredom causing me to get frustrated. I will try making the training sessions shorter and being more patient with her. You are truly a wealth of knowledge and I am so glad you are sharing it with us! Thanks, Heidi.
Your channel is top shelf! I loved watching those little guys land on their target with such precision. Was that spinach for a treat?
Thank you so much! Yes, that is spinach for a treat. :)
Why ain't you uploaded more bantam training videos?
I've been busy with other things, but I do plan on and am in the process of making more videos including trick videos and tutorials. :)
Koa is an amazing chicken! So are you being it’s trainer. Amazing work!
I have chickens to 65 of them and I love them look at my videos

I love how your rooster just kinda "steps" over the low threshhold. As if to say, "Easiest job I've had in awhile". Keep the great vids coming!
Haha, he definitely has that kind of attitude!
Going through your whole catalogue -- these are great! 🐔
This morning, i went to get tested before work and tested positive. While I was in the doctor's office some rando hit my parked car -- not even mine, borrowed it from a friend who is now in this mess as well. Uber'd to my first gig where the project manager never showed up. Lyft to the next client, who also did not show up, worked on a SQL database for ~ 4 hours and left without a check. Came home, hating the world and everyone in it, then saw this. Thank you.
I'm glad my chicken videos made your day better. <3 Hope everything works out for you!
Miracle my have lost on time, but she wins on *style*.
This should have way more views. Great work! Love your chickens.
