Hi and welcome to my channel!
i will be using this channel to post #cinema4d related #tipsandtricks and #tutorials. to begin with i will be concentrating more on techniques and tricks to help viewers with thier small tasks rather than project based tutorials, although that could come later if there is a demand.
one thought ive had though, is because i get ask alot to make car modeling tutorials is i might start to slowly work my way though one. but thats something later on when ive got the hang of this "youtubing" lark hehe
all my videos are unscripted and unpracticed. if an idea pops into my head i will be recording it and uploading it here. they are not aimed at any one group of user, i just hope that everyone might find them usefull.
dont be shy and leave a comment or contact me personaly with any thoughts, praise, hate, im all ears :)

008 Fun with Ambient Occlusion -Dirt- Part 1
Using Ambient Occlusion is far more than just turning it on in the global render settings. with a little lateral thought you can create some realy cool dirt effects. in this video i will show you how to use AO with the layer shader and c4ds procedural noises to create some realistic procedural dirt

005 Wrap Deformer - Procedural and Parametric modeling tutorial
มุมมอง 12K5 ปีที่แล้ว
*No polygons were harmed during the creation of this model* *please excuse the hayfever!* This video #tutorial is the first in a series of videos looking at the various #deformers in #cinema4d and how they can be used together with #generaters to make fully #parametric objects. twitter: @the_glenster instagram: @theglenster behance: www.behance.net/glenjohnson1353
004 Cinema 4D modeling with unexpected tools. Knurling
มุมมอง 6K5 ปีที่แล้ว
In this video i explain that results can be sometimes achieved by using #cinema4d #polygon #modeling tools in a slightly different way than what they were designed for. you will get a quick introduction to the #MeshChecker feature that was developed by #maxon for preparing geometry for 3d printing, and using the Bevel tool to bevel points to create new geometry. twitter: @the_glenster instagram...
003 Cinema 4D Boolean (Boole) Modeling Part 1 and Containment
มุมมอง 10K5 ปีที่แล้ว
This will be the first video in a series where i will explain how #maxon #Cinema4D Boole object is actually your friend! I explain how clean geometry is the key to sucess with the #Boole object for clean #Bolleans and how using the "containment" method will help the Boole object to create clean #geometry for you. twitter: @the_glenster instagram: @theglenster behance: www.behance.net/glenjohnso...
002 Cinema 4D hardsurface modeling tutorial - NUT -
มุมมอง 6K5 ปีที่แล้ว
In this my second cinema 4d turorial i run through my thought process and techniques used for creating hardsurface modeling. from studying reference images, setting up the cinema 4d interface and docking custom icons for quick use. this tutorial will take you through using various modeling tools, generators and deformers to model a hardsurface object. dont be affraid to contact me with any ques...
001 Cinema 4D modeling containment and scene optimizing tutorial
มุมมอง 4K5 ปีที่แล้ว
This is my first cinema 4d video tutorial YAY! anyway, its a bit rough and ready, no script, just freestyled it. ive tried to give a little intro into what i call "Containment" modeling. in later videos i will go into what that means for polygon modeling. and as a little bonus at the end a little bit about spline subdivisions for scene optimization. dont be affraid to contact me with any questi...
That was NOT a thread. It was horizontal ribs. At no point will anyone of intelligence look at it and say "it actually spirals". If you 3d print it, it will NEVER thread into anuthing. Ever.
thanks a mil, rare material
Haven't been able to get this to work in version 2023.1.3. Has something changed? Can anyone recommend an alt method?
Very, very good Tips! Thank you so much!!!
Im perplexed that Glen's videos don't have more likes and views... its like a hidden treasure trove of goodies! Spechially for us who are starting to learn Cinema 4d
thanks :)
OHHHH MY GOD!!! This was sooooooooooooooo satisfying to watch! doing this tutorial asap!! Glen - You are amazing, thank you so much for this! - I am a self-learning hobbist - and this kind of tutorial is very helpful to guys like me!! Kudos from Norway!
cheers :)
just to confirm... this works on generators (extrudes, sweeps etc) - but not on primitives? e.g cubes?
yes it works on primitves :)
Brilliant technique. Thank you for sharing this.
Thanks
Maybe faster way to cut polygons in the middle is to use edge selection, ring selection and then use connect points/edges function.(shortcut M/M). At least I have learnt it this way.
How about modeling the twisted angle for a bolt inside a nut?
I would only model thread if the camera was so close to the object that you could actualy see it. Otherwisr your brain will never see the difference between this way or actualy thread
@@glenjohnson3610 yes i agree. Great tutorial anyways. Why not make some more? 🤔
das maestro!
love this, thank you for sharing!
that's quite Genius! thank you. I'm modeling a show with a series of holes on the side. do you recommend Boole or is there a preferred method which in non-destructive?
Today I saw watched this tutorial of yours and I loved it. I hope you are doing well now. Thanks for sharing this knowledge with us
im glad you liked it :)
learnt some new stuff on this one -----thanks===
fantastic... thank you!
My life has been a lie. :) Thank you very much
Just the tip I needed at 9am on a monday. Don't know how I missed this technique. Been a fan since the typewriter lol.
Hello! Can you please tell me how to change the background color of the viewport?
sure: go to the top menu... Edit/Preferences/schemecolours/editor colours/background
@@glenjohnson3610 Many thanks!
thx man !
Very useful. I´m trying to create worn edges but it´s been hard to setup the inverted AO, so looking forward for the next part.
Excellent tutorial thank you. The way you transformed the mesh into diagonals was brilliant I will use that tip for sure!
Really useful tips!
Thank you for the great explanation of the process. It would be cool if you could explain the way you created the scratches on the metal shader you have shown. Are these procedural, too?
Hi Andreas, im glad you like it! the scratches are overlays. ive literaly hundreds of them ranging from dust, fingerprints, scratches, and various dirt and stains. if i see a pack come up for sale on gumroad then i buy it. they are useualy pretty cheap at around 10 bucks a pack. i think i will to a video soon showing how i use them. they are pretty easy to use. gumroad.com/l/HQfZ
Great tips!
I have been searching for two days for a technique like this. THANK YOU.
So helpfull. Thanx!
Make more videos please - really great stuff
This is excellent. Thank you.
Ey man!!! thanks a lot!! this really help me! when i see 30 min to make a nut i say, dammmm! skip, but when i start to lisent the video i realized that it was because the differents tips you were giving. Thanks
Very interesting! A whole new way to understand modelling, thanks!
Such a great tutorial! Thanks, Glen
Thanks you so much for the tutorial. I was looking for the exact tutorial and you have explained each step in detail. Thanks!
thanks so much great!
Beautiful.
amazing. keep it up

The lesson is wonderful. Tell me how to set up an interface like yours in the scene, I especially liked the surface shadows ....
Glen, please keep making these videos because it's VERY hard to find really good content like yours about parametric modeling. Your techniques and skills are genuine and amazing. Thank you so much!
hi and thanks for the comment! yes you are right, i will try in the comming weeks to get more out!
Loving your tutorials Glen, keep them coming... I ran into a problem with this: the geometry at the back side of the wrap where the edges of the extruded rectangle meet are mismatched, they don't join properly and the geo is absolutely atrocious, any ideas why?
I also found that having the spline mask as the first object in the connect object's hierarchy produced extremely slow viewport performance whereas having the circles followed by the spline mask>rectangle>symmetry (as you did in yours) does produce fast results... why?
thank you!!
Thank you for the video Glen! Been trying to learn this way of modeling. I have a question: Before creating the top and bottom holes, i'm getting a pretty good amount of pinching at the that i'm not seeing on yours(or can't see the top of yours to see if it's doing it). Each of our settings match. I do get a reduction in the pinching in the rectangle when I drop it from 20 down to 4, but it's still there. I am on an older version. Not sure if it is something within R20 that fixes this or if that's just the nature of pinching spheres. Any thoughts? Thank you again!
Thank you! A big hug.
Thank you!Great tutorial. If you feel like making more I will stay tuned.
Great tutorial and very useful. Thank you!
But in real life in the middle of the nut is a screw-thread? Why do you don't make it with helix curve and boolean?
Marvelous, thannk you!
I wish you had made this video in 2008 when I started modeling and optimizing scenes. Ha I had to learn all these tricks the hard way. On some long render nights.
Woooow!
