5 Minute Pre Warm Up
Spend five minutes (ish) getting the body ready to sing! Do this before you start your vocal warm up or when you're feeling like you've got some vocal tension and want to release your singing muscles.
Why pre warmups? The pre warmup is an opportunity to get blood flowing to the muscles and release any tension before using them to produce sound. This helps to eliminate strain, singing tension, discomfort, and avoid voice loss or injury while singing. While this might feel like an easy step to skip, this can be crucial in help prepare your voice to be used to sing whatever your heart desires!
Who is LMT? I'm Lauryn! And I'm a voice teacher and NYC actor/singer who's been teaching for seven years. I opened my fully virtual voice and theatre studio in 2020 to help students of all ages and experiences levels to develop their technique, build confidence, and tell stories with song. It's a privilege to join you on your vocal journey!

    Hi Lauryn, thanks for these videos! I'm non-union, wanting to attend an EPA. Do you recommend I still get there as early as possible? Are non-union still getting there the moment the building opens? Are there normally lists for non-union to write their names so they know who was there first? Thank you!

    • @lmtstudio615
      @lmtstudio615 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey there! I do still recommend you get there as early as you feel comfortable! Non union went a little whack-a-doodle last season getting there as early as MIDNIGHT! I don’t recommend that for a number of reasons, namely that it’s just unsafe! But right now it’s summer and I imagine things are slower (I’m currently taking a break from auditioning to teach). There are often lists, however they’ve been cracking down on NOT accepting them. It can be helpful to have when it’s time to line up. I usually suggest once you get there STAY THERE, don’t sign up and leave, because there’s a good chance you won’t get on the official list. Hope that’s helpful!

    Hi! I realize this video was from a year ago, but I was just curious if there are practice rooms somewhere in the building? Just trying to figure out the best spot to warm up. Thanks!

      I know, I made like five videos and gave up 😂😂 unfortunately there are not warm up rooms at the Equity Building. BUT if you go to Open Jar Studios (which is like two blocks away) they open at 9 am and have warm up rooms for 30 minutes! Break legs!

    Hey I'm a non union actor! I had question. So if I don't arrive to Pearl before 8am to put my name on the non union list, I won't be seen at all?

    • @lmtstudio615
      @lmtstudio615 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey! No, not at all. That’s just my experience! Some calls will be very poorly attended and you can walk right in and get seen! Others will be mayhem hahaha so you just have to gauge interest. Go on Audition Update (via backstage.com) and see of a thread has been started about the call. If there hasn’t, it’s likely to be a quiet day. If there has, see what people are saying and when they plan to arrive.

    this is amazing! thank you for supplying all of this information. I just want to clarify- So I could go to the ECC Wicked audition as a non-union dancer? I'm just confused how it's listed as union but they'll still see non-union?

    • @lmtstudio615

      @@MsAblivia I’m EMC so I get on a different list, but when it’s a big call like that you might wanna plan for 4 or 5. But BE SAFE never risk your safety to go to an audition. You can go and sign up and then go home too, then just get back around 8 depending on where you live.

    What are my chances of being seen as a non-union member at an EPA if I get there super early? I know there’s no set answer, but do you have an estimate? Also- thank you so much for your videos! They are super helpful!

    • @lmtstudio615
      @lmtstudio615 ปีที่แล้ว

      It really depends on the call! There will be some that just end up being on days where people are out of town or busy with other calls so you get seen, and then others where EVERYBODY is there! I’ll say utilize resources like The Hustle NYC on Instagram and Audition Update through Backstage.com (you don’t need a paid account to use this!) and see what other people say there about the call you’re going for. I think it’s worth going to them because there’s always a chance! But if it’s a day where you’re already feeling grumpy, don’t put yourself through the hassle 😂 thanks for watching!
