Exploring Backroads of Northern Arizona to Sycamore Point & Falls
We're coming down from Prescott to do Four Peaks over to Apache Trail to Bulldog Canyon on Saturday. I just watched those three on your channel, and really appreciate the informative, but uncluttered videos. Great work, Thank you! And, Scout is cool.
Appreciate it! He is a great dog, I’m glad to have him with me.
Great production quality, excellent view angles & drone footage, cool dog, good information, well done! Thank you! Subscribed.
Thanks! Hoping Io get out again soon and film some bigger trips.
Great video. Keep doing what you’re doing! Keep inspiring women and a few of us old guys just getting started back hitting the trails again 👊
@@FatStacker1969 thank you! Means a lot 🤛
Just did Bulldog Canyon yesterday. The last time before that, the permit was free and they provided a gate code. Now it's $80 annually and gates are unlocked.
Yeah, I saw that notice a little before the new year. Not sure why they needed to change the system, but hopefully it helps give them the $ they need to keep everything nice.
God laughs while we make plans :) Good on you for doing your own repairs & maintenance!
100% haha. Thanks! Basic skills everyone should know 👍
Another great video!
Glad you enjoyed it!
it is a beautiful area, wish they were able to better enforce keeping the boondockers and and trash dumpers away from the entrances.
💯 I hope the new permit system doesn’t make it worse. I always bring a contractor bag and feel like I could fill a few every trip.
Broken Arrow train in Sedona is one of my favorite all time trails. It's pretty short but the views are out of this world! Schnebly has great views but constant driving over rocks will vibrate your teeth and everything else loose. Do you have a route map of what you did from Flagstaff to Mogollon Rim? I really want do do that one.
I agree! Schnebly is beautiful but a rough ride. Going down into Sedona vs up to the 17 makes a huge difference. I haven't gotten to do Broken Arrow yet. Last time I was up there, I wanted to knock out a few trails but the 1st two took SO long from crowds, I didn't want to try to squeeze that in too. Hopefully soon though, I've heard awesome things. I don't have a route map for Flag to Mogollon, but I just tied together Lake Mary Rd --> Kinnikinnick Rd --> Anderson Mesa South --> Lost Eden --> East Clear Creek --> Rim Rd. If you've got Gaia or Trails Offroad, its easy to connect them. Now back in ~ September when I drove that, I think East Clear Creek had a detour for prescribed burn, so it was slightly different FS road down to Rim, but I can't remember the # of the road. I'll definitely have to start saving my routes better lol.
@@untamedterrain Thanks for the reply and my wife and I love your videos. Thanks again and keep 'em coming! Oh, what camera do you use other than the drone? Was thinking about getting a gopro for jeeping and kayaking/paddleboarding.
Thanks for the support, it means a lot! I use a couple - the Mavic 3 drone, a couple Osmo Actions, my iPhone, and a Nikon Z8. The action cameras are relatively inexpensive & easy to shoot with. GoPro or DJI are both good options!
Been out there a few times, definitely better trails in the Phoenix area. I will say out of all the trails in the Bulldog area, 1356 is the best of the lot. But I would rather go a bit further down the 88 and do Tortilla Ranch trail. Or even further down Apache Trail and do Two Bar Ridge.
There's definitely a lot to explore out in that area - I'll have to check out Tortilla Ranch & Two Bar Ridge.
@@untamedterrain Do Two Bar and Deer Hill in a loop since they connect. I quite enjoyed them.
Hey! I'm glad I came across your channel. I am out at Bulldog about 4 times a month with my pups. I'm going to add you on IG. Hope to see you out there! ✌🏼
4x a month is awesome, lucky puppies! Thanks for the add, I'm sure I'll see you around.
I'm looking to tame myself down from the crawling and experiment more overlanding and explorations. Videos like this help build my list.
Glad to hear it’s helpful! It’s definitely a different style of getting there. I haven’t tried rock crawling, I think it would be too stressful for me 😅
I've recently made this same decision. A hard trail will be nice occasionally, but I prefer the long back roads in the middle of nowhere with amazing scenery and remote camping.
Your So Awesome Thank You so well done Im on the rim. Arizona wild ❤
Thank you!
It’s not surprising your dog kept on guard on vultee arch trail. There have been reports and sightings of bears and mountain lions in that section of Sedona. Last time I hiked that trail I did sense I was being followed or watched by a big animal. I kept checking behind me and making noises to keep them at bay.
@@jsantana4336 I could definitely see how that’s a good area for bear and mountain lions. Luckily, I only saw a couple of small bob cats.
We drove it about a month ago, it was washboard but no need for 4×4 . We met a small car and later a minivan both of them drove all the way through. Although I would not recommend these type of vehicles.
I definitely agree - washboards make it uncomfortable for regular cars but doable 👍
With the jeep, German shepherd, and you I’m getting some Sarah Connor vibes!
I love it 😂 there’s next year’s Halloween costume
wow! soon ill make it there! beautiful dog.
Thanks! He’s a handful, but worth it 😂
Hi Lindsay do you go back out the same way you come in on the Trail? Thx for Vid, such great scenery
Hey@@bradley_Bradley - No, I went in through a SE gate and exited through a W one. Unfortunately, I do not know if every gate has the same lock code. When I was there, the exiting gate was left unlocked (a lot of traffic). When you get a permit, you select which gate you’ll be entering by, and it has the lock code on it.
Nice trail. Beautiful scenery. ❤❤
Definitely - the east side of the valley is truly full of adventures!
I love wheelin with my puppy, I confess I use him as an excuse to go exploring "He really needs to go get some mountain sniffs" lol Love what you do! Be safe out there and happy trail hunting!
Thank you! Any excuse is a good excuse in my opinion 😂
I've run this trail 50 or more times. I usually start at the Usary Pass entrance (3554). This is where she exited. It's close to the East Valley and is my 'go to' for taking visitors out wheeling. When 3554 meets up with trail 10 you have the option to go North to the Bush Hwy (about 13 minutes, easy) or south towards AJ and the Wolverine exit. If the day is going well you can continue onto towards the AA Pit exit and past that all the way to the Apache Trail highway and exit at the 'Cottonwood' gate. As she mentioned, there is a bit of everything on this trail and it is very scenic. A permit is required, I get checked by the rangers about every 5th run or so, they are pretty active out there. It's also not junked up like lower Sycamore. Its proximity to the East Valley makes it my favorite because I don't have to commit 'all day' if I want to do quick run. Thanks for the video and happy trails!
This area is definitely a great one that's close to home. I look forward to exploring it a lot more. Thanks for your comment!
FYI: If you have the AUX battery, you need to change both at the same time. Otherwise the AUX battery will kill your main battery. And you are very lucky you didn't take out your fuse array by not taking the AUX battery ground wire off the negative terminal and wrapping it up to make sure it didn't short out. A lot of people have blown the expensive fuse array doing this.
Good to know - thanks! Had followed the advice from the auto shop guy who sold the battery. He had said to replace aux if the aux error persisted, which it hadn’t since I replaced main. Both check engine & aux error went away. I’ll look into pulling the aux battery & checking it out too.
@untamedterrain lot of us delete the AUX battery altogether. Then, just run the larger H7 battery for our main battery. It will fit in the same tray as the smaller battery that comes in them if you don't have the towing package.
@@matopezuta2050 I might just go that route - definitely prefer a more simple system.
I used to do this trail in my 3rd gen Tacoma every other weekend like 4 years ago, I have yet to take my new Jeep JL Rubicon. I like entering thru wolverine entrance on the Southside of the trail.
I’ll have to try that entrance next time. Definitely going to be spending more time out that way. It was way more fun than I had expected!
You’re very pretty. And you dog is loving life.
Thank you- he definitely loves the adventures!
Nicely produced video. Looking forward to watching more of your work.
Thank you! I’m working hard to improve a lot of aspects. Goal is for each video to be better than the last 👍
@@untamedterrain I suddenly realize I've read many of your trail reviews on the Trails Offroad app as well. Cheers to you and Scout. Enjoy your continued adventures!
@@PowerMcWagonFace Thank you very much! Yes - I try to write reviews for any trail thats on there. Its such a great app.
Great video, keep it up.
Appreciate it - thanks!
👏
Appreciate the support 👍
We used to pull a 20' Sea Ray with a 2WD pickup from Chandler to Burnt Corral ( Apache Lake) over Fish Creek Hill when the road was WORSE than it is now; narrower with washboard road conditions ( 15 years ago); you DO NOT need 4WD to run that road!!! In fact there is another video of Fish Creek Hill with cars (2WD) going up and down!!!
I agree - the road is definitely doable in any kind of car. I saw all kinds when I had gone through. There were a few rocky spots on the Eastern end but rest is just flat dirt or washboard. Nothing intense other than the few blind turns along cliff edge.
Anyone have extra strength magic pixie dust for diesel Libertys ?
🪄🪄 best of luck! I didn’t even know the Liberty came with a diesel 😂 If you’re in Phoenix, I’ve had great luck with Wulf Offroad.
I have heard of the trial but never did it. Going to give it a shot when I get some mechanical gremlins solved in my lil diesel Liberty
It’s a great time! Best of luck with your gremlins haha 🙏
I’ve been to Wulf & they did some suspension work but they don’t have a diesel guy. I’m seriously considering doing a straight axle conversion to get rid of the problematic front suspension. My mtn goat has 300,000 miles & still get 32-33 mpg on the highway.
Uhhh ....Isn't it still a state highway? 🤔
Yep, starts out as SR88 in Apache Junction and goes out east to Roosevelt.
Thanks!
No problem - have fun out there!
Hello, do you think the Dupont cabin trail would be ok in a stock height 4Runner with 4x4 and good a/t tires? Thanks!
@@jamiethomas1227 100% - air down if you can for more comfortable ride, but shouldn't have any issues.
Where was the mystery cave located at? Would like to see it as well as DuPont cabin. Thanks..
Hey Stephen, I hadn’t marked the exact spot - but it’s along FR609 on your way back from the end of the DuPont trail.
New subscriber. Getting ideas from your videos for my new adventures with me and my two labs and my Tundra
Thank you, I appreciate it. Adventuring with dogs is the best! Coming out with a video about that soon.
this trail is not really that technical it’s just RUGGED. i ran it about 15psi last time I was out. anything 20+ feels like you’re brain is gonna rattle loose. 10-12psi probably the sweet spot
beautiful views though absolutely worth it. can’t wait to go back and actually camp
I definitely agree. I was ~18 on this trip & was comfortable coasting down in 4 low. Taking the trail downhill (toward Sedona) made a HUGE difference too. The first time I couldn’t air down & had no idea how the sway bar or low gearing worked at all 🫣
I need to go there sometime. Looks like a great trip
It was a great time! I’ll have to make a bigger trip of it next time & do some more of the trails in Sedona.
Nice Ride, thank you for sharing, I look forward to seeing more. Scout sure seems nice!
Thank you! Scout is a great adventure bud ❤️

Came from Nextdoor this video’s great 👍 🔥🔥 keep going 🏔️ 🤞
Thank you so much! More coming soon! 🏔️
Good video! The rim is a great place.
It sure is, I love spending time up there!
Conquering? Apache trail itself can be with a passenger car 🤣
It definitely can be! “Conquering” makes it sound more fun 😄
I'm sure that back when the trail was completed (1905) to make it available for motor-vehicles, given the cars they had back then the pass was way more challenging than it is today. Not to mention how challenging/rough it was before when it was a stagecoach route. At least today you don't have to worry about Apache war parties. ;-) -- BR
The last time I drove it was in 2012 and the road was miserably washboarded. Thanks to ADOT being asleep at the switch in maintenance. Nothing to conquer except keeping your teeth in place.
Great video! I drove it Saturday morning. ADOT did a good job with the repairs.
They really did! Much better drive get to Apache Lake now rather than having to go almost up to Payson and backtrack.
Dig the music in the intro! 🤘
Thank you! Felt it fit the theme well for a historic western trail
Very cool
Thank you! It’s a unique place
very cool
Thank you, I appreciate it!
Awesome video. What kind of Drone were you using? DJI Mini 3 or 4? Looks to me that your drone automatically follows you while you’re driving.
Thank you! Its a Mavic 3 Classic - I got it from the DJI refurbished store on massive sale about a year ago. It will track me about 80% of the time successfully. I noticed that after adding the cap & RTT sometimes it wont recognize it as a car 😂
Another great video!
Thank you, I appreciate it! This was my 1st with using DaVinci Resolve instead of Premiere, hasn’t been an easy learning curve.
By far your best video so far, great job! Keep growing!
Great video! Is that cove 4? I have only ever been to cove 2. I look forward to watching the channel grow!
Thank you! Yep - Cove #4. It was a great spot! Room for 4 or 5 vehicles on the beach.
Beautiful landscape! The lake is so pretty 😊
Absolutely! That whole area is just amazing - I've lived here my whole life and haven't seen it all.
Awesome video.
@@azcooldad Thank you! Had a blast shooting it
@@untamedterrain I did mine “AZ Deaf Offroad” and still need practice on drone video. But yours was very smooth and professional. Keep it up.
It does take some practice for sure. I still struggle with remembering to hit “record” after setting up a shot sometimes 😅
