    I have the same year bike. Mine is a C model. I have been told and have learned that I most likely have clogged Pilot Jets because this 13K mile bike sat for a few years and it only runs on choke. If I pull the carb and replace just the jets with new ones, will I have to do any balancing when I reinstall it?

    • @ShadowFlyer
      @ShadowFlyer ปีที่แล้ว

      Nice, you have the VT1100C/C1, Spirit? It's very possible that the jets are clogged if it sat for that long with fuel in it. If you replace them with the exact same spec jets, you may not need to adjust anything else. But if they're just clogged and not ruined, I'd recommend removing the carbs and cleaning everything. You can use carb cleaner or SeaFoam and some pressurized air (don't go crazy) and unclog stuff. Then just reinstall the original parts.

    • @JB91710
      @JB91710 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ShadowFlyer I just came in from pulling the carbs. Only took one anxiety pill!! As soon as I catch my breath, I'll clean the exterior with brake cleaner and then take those covers off to get at the jets. I have some new gas with a lot of Seafoam in it, so I'll clean the jets out and let them soak overnight. Do you know that piece of foam "Air Cleaner" in that black box just in front of the carbs? I found mine turned to powder when I touched it. I'll see what it's called in the shop manual and get a replacement. Food for thought. I found both lower isolator screws completely backed off. Do you think air could have been sucked in down there to lean the mixture out? They seemed tight though.

    • @ShadowFlyer
      @ShadowFlyer ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JB91710 I don't think I have a foam filter in mine. It sounds like you're talking about the air filter under the seat? Mine is a reusable K&N air filter; I don't know if I'd want a piece of foam in there for the exact reason you mentioned: they can deteriorate. I'm not familiar with any screws that adjust airflow... My bike's straight pipes and high-flow air filter are the cause for extra air and then I adjusted the jets and carb screws to bring the fuel-air ratio back up to normal.

    So i fixed it 5 months ago and it loosened again. This time i drilled a hole by the ignition switch so if it happens again all I'll have to do is push the pin back in. Any ideas how to "glue" it in place?

    • @ShadowFlyer
      @ShadowFlyer ปีที่แล้ว

      I used Loctite to "glue" mine. I just put it around the area where it sticks out of the hole in the steering column. Using just a little didn't have much affect; I had to put a fair amount on there before it actually helped. Just be careful not to get it further in where there are moving parts for the tilt mechanism.

      @@ShadowFlyer amazing my Saturn L is still purring along, now over 215k. However, this silly steeing wheel column looseness issue recently caused an inspection fail..... (my bad for not checking closely) But this time, even after I popped the pin back in and the steering column seemed very firm, the local Charlottesville inspection place -- Colonial -- still claimed that it was unaccepable, that even a micro slight looseness would not pass. (not that I could feel !) They couldn't tell me exactly what was wrong, nor did they concede that popping the pin back in did anything. They wanted to charge me an hour labor, just to diagnose it! I got angry and gave up. Will try somewhere else. (Are you aware of anything else in the steering column that might cause miniscule looseless?)
