this is my favorite animatic literally of ever and I always come back to it especially around halloween because Scar is one of my favorite creators and Nightmare before christmas is my favorite movie :33 I love this so insanely much, I literally spent over a year working on my Last life scar cosplay and the design is based on this, I love it so so much

I’m a few years late but here I go… What I love about this animatic is the use of framing. Most of the time, we look down on Bdubs through the frame. We see him from the waist up and we look down on him as he feels more and more defeated. We watch him and he is alone. The flat dark background adds to that sad feeling. Etho is the only one with a source of light, the moon. We can see him smile with his eyes. He looks hopeful that he can give a heart to Bdubs… and that chance is ripped away from him. Beautiful art!

By far one of my favourite artists, this is amazing!

I love how messy they are, how their entire dynamic digs into there dirt of how manipulative people can get when theyre scared, whether its intentional or not. This is very neat :]

So when I first watched this a few years ago, this hit hard as a 3rd life fan. Now, I have gotten into Hadestown, this really HITS HARD

maybe this is very off but I noticed a few things after rewatching like a thousand times (this is amazing btw): - Grian and Scar were partnered in third life of their own volition, Grian chose to stick with him even after losing his first life, hence the warm lighting and real smiles... they genuinely enjoyed each other's company - the watchers loved and fed off of the betrayal and angst of third life, and wanted to put the two together again, sort of manipulating the game so they had to be together to provide themselves with the best entertainment - this adds to the last point, Grian and Scar genuinely love each other's company, but because of their temperaments and character, they want to CHOOSE each other, not be forced into being together. In the sequence from 1:05 - 1:18 it looks almost as if Grian is trying to break apart for their own sake, a way of saying "this isn't how it's supposed to be," especially with the line "it's broken I don't want to play," - the sequence following that (1:19 - 1:27) really drives that home, putting the emphasis on how strained the relationship's become. They both value their freedom and don't like being tied down unless they actively choose it. With the line coming up later, "And I stare at you sleeping," portrays the contrast between double and third life. In third life, they trusted each other more, but in Double life, Grian feels constantly on edge that Scar will kill them both (unintentionally, probably) - NOW! Starting from 1:51 we can see the watchers fully come into play. (I like the idea of Grian being more of an unwilling or unconscious vessel for the watchers than an actual watcher himself) This is where we start to see the watchers' desperation trying to keep the two together for their entertainment, using Grian's body to physically keep them together. I think Scar starts to pick up on this by pulling away, at least noticing something's off with him. I imagine he's actually directing the line "a parasite needs a host" to the watchers, referring to them leeching off Grian or alternatively, the both of them. - We can actually see Scar's frustration with the lines "I never asked for this, I never wanted this" being directed at them, implying he would have rather chose Grian than be paired with him without his input. BUT, (oooooooh boyyyy) We can see the true intent of the Watchers with the whole "Looking in your eyes, I'm coming home" scene. They aren't going to take no for an answer. - And that's what crosses the line for Scar. His suspicions have been confirmed, and he doesn't want to play their game. The "You're always trying to be somebody else" line I think really sells that, he's basically letting them know he knows what they are and that they aren't Grian. (I know you added "with" but this is just my little theory haha) - After scar tells them that, we can see at 2:48 their whole approach changes as if trying to act like the caring partner Grian was in Third life, trying to make him feel guilty for trying to leave with the whole "but you never cared for me" line. Scar turns away at 3:00, and if you look closely, you can see Grian shaking the watchers off and like coming back to consciousness or something. - Now this is where it really gets into my own theory, BUT it's kind of interesting. Right after Grian comes back it's almost as if they have a silent agreement that the only way to free themselves from the watchers' influence is to give them the show they so desperately want, therefore recreating the ending battle from 3rd life with a different outcome. So that's my take... thanks for reading!

3:00 if you look here, Grian’s eyes are purple and he’s sort of smiling but then at 3:01 he realizes and stops and looks annoyed again…I wish I could go full mat-pat mode but idk what it means, all I know is that it’s probably a significant detail xDDD (someone explain it to me pls)

2:12 **ahem** The loudest scream I heard from Scar was a little less high pitched than his woo hoo in season 10 of Hermitcraft. Maybe the scream that Scar made from Grian scaring him in season 8, sure maybe that beats it but that was because he was scared but either way, I still love it. Okay you broke my heart now THAT'S BEAUTIFUL AND SAD 3:10 😭💖
