Cross Country/Trail/Enduro Riding in Ontario on 1986 Yamaha
County Road Riding in Fall Colour + New Bike DR650 (4K)
Riding some county roads in Ontario, CA as my first ride on the new bike. XT350 is going to be parted out, after years of only riding kick start bikes my RIGHT knee is not up for the task anymore. RIP. Its still okay but I need to minimize any further damage. Entering the age of electric start and I'm kind of loving it. Contrary to what I may have said/posted in the past.

hi, interesting what hydraulic clutch set you used? I am also thinking about it. thanks
@@Roolis77 Hey Roolis77 I've tried out a couple different ones, generally all the slave cylinders are similar so you will probably be okay with any of them. I just put the same one I had on my xt350 on a DR650. They seem to be relatively universal. They come will a bunch of adapters for the slave cylinder end
@@Roolis77 look up "Aramox hydraulic clutch kit" on Amazon. That is the same style as the one I use. Multiple manufacturers make them
I'm considering picking one of these up that is for sale about 2.5 hours away from me in near mint condition. Does the bike "feel" light? how do you feel it compares to the Suzuki DR350SE? TIA.
@@cyclonus01 oh ya I think the xt350 feels pretty light, even before I got on the DR650. Now it feels even lighter. It's never going to feel 2 stroke light though. Near mint is hard to find
wow super heavy mods! That's a great build, was it a lot of work to swap the yz forks in ?(modification wise compared to the stock ones) And do you think a similar swap for sand use races could be a great move?
@@thomasenbalade it was pretty interesting, somewhat complicated but not too bad. I'm probably going to sell the frame w/ suspension mods as a rolling chassis now that I'm riding the DR650

@@fcalin21 easy. Don't fall. 😅
I am worried about all the little stuff that could break on a fall.
@@fcalin21 As long as it's not bones that break I can fix it, else doctors will be involved 😅
@@todorow22 You could get stranded .
I like that carb option. I recently rebuilt a set of carbs on an xt350. Super interesting and a first for me (yes I made a video). I might have to check your channel for the carbs. Could be cool for those running around with obsolete carbs.
Did you use the stock intake boots to mount those carbs? I'm thinking of ditching the factory carbs on my bike Awesome vid btw, lots of useful info
@@cMrJorgy yep they fit perfectly in the stock boots
Great video, I wanna see that beast rip up some hill climbs! Nice build, good mix of parts. I rebuilt my xt350 but didn't do the piston so I might need to re-build it again with a new piston since it smokes a lot. Awesome bike! Looking forward to more content.
@@FRANKENMOTO315 the new piston definitely restored some of the pep! Highly recommended
@@todorow22 Sweet, it'd be really cool to have another rider film you to hear and see how the new setup works. Lookin forward to more clips, great work!
@@FRANKENMOTO315 for that I'd need a friend lmao, it's be so hard to find ppl to ride with. I do really want to do some hill climbs maybe I can setup the camera and solo a hill climb
Also I have the same Clark tank, those caps are VERY sensitive to over tightening and will split. I’m on my second cap now and only close it lightly with no issues.
@@NickDives1023 that's good to know! I want to find an all aluminum alternative to the stock cap but haven't been able to find one yet that fits.
Do you have a page with links to all the parts you’ve used? Awesome build man.

@@iaaan94 my man.
Just picked up a 92 xt350. I love your build and would like to take mine in a similar direction. Would you be willing to do a write up for me? Parts you used, sources, odd stuff you ran into in the build process?
Sure I just got a new Go Pro camera, and just recorded some content but I can do a follow up video where I go through the bike as if it is a write up of all the mods. I will try to record that tomorrow and have it posted in a weeks time :)
is this all stuff you get access to if you buy the Ontario Federation of Trail Riders pass?
Correct you get access to all the SCORRA trails and their interactive trail map, well worth it if you ask me.
Now that its been a while: How was tuning those carbs? How much better than the funky stock carb setup? I'm getting tired of this weird cv/ydis setup
Tuning the PWK24s was not hard, way better than the stock carb setup.
Ehhh!!! Thanks my man 🤙
Im your 19th like
Hello! Where did you buy the digital gauge for oil temp?
Aliexpress
Found out basically trespassing to go in there
Incorrect my friend. Not trespassing on crown land, or on an easement used to access crown land. Whoever told you that is lying because they don't want people there. Be safe by all means, respect others on the road at all times, dont litter. Just be a good person, and don't worry about the Karen's in the world. Thats my advice.
Nice job on the bike man. How's it running with the new flat slide carbs? How do you have your LED headlight wired up? And does it flicker off the AC voltage when it's idling? I tried a LED H4 in mine that was supposed to be made for AC but it was seizure inducing at idle. Looking forward to some more riding vids. Cheers 🥃
Hey man! I just finished an engine rebuild and I got a new piston in my bike that i need to break in, so i was reluctant to run the new flat slide carbs until I had a wide band O2 sensor setup on the bike to tune them properly. Don't want to burn a brand new piston. Good news is I have the Wide band 02 kit on route, so I should be tuning jets in the next month and have a new video out for that specifically. RE the light, its a pretty low draw LED headlight, doesnt have any issues running at idle but I dont have it wired directly to the AC, I wired it up through switch directly to the 12v battery and it has never really flickered. Try running that H4 directly off the battery instead of using the default AC from the stator. Only downside is if your battery dies your light wont run. good news is even with the bike off it still works. In case you need a little light when your not running. (although don't keep it on too long and drain the battery)
Good luck getting it all dialed in. It'll be sweet with that new piston I bet. My bike popped a valve guide out if the head last fall and ruined one of my valve stem oil seals so I hauled it all apart and rebuilt it all and when it was going back together I noticed that the cams and crank were never timed right. I fixed that, got it all back together and it feels like a different bike now. As for the LED H4 I have, I might run the headlights off relays from the battery and use the stock headlight wires as the trigger source for them and see how that goes.
THIS WORKS. I just finished doing everything you mentioned in the video and the bike runs amazing. Thank you so much for making this video, I got two of those carbs for only 16 bucks each and the bike runs like new. This video made getting the bike going again super easy and I can't believe how cool the bike turned out. Great job! A+++++++++++++
Thanks Man! Very happy to hear I actually helped someone lol!
@@todorow22 You rock! I am not much of a movie maker, but here is a video of what you helped me build. It's awesome, the bike starts easy and runs awesome. Still have tuning to do though. th-cam.com/video/7C40B97BN84/w-d-xo.html
Dude, just picked up a 2000 XT350 that needs a little work. Got it for cheap and super stoked to get it in mint condition. Do you have a link to where you found the gas tank?
If you google Clarke xt350 tank it should come up. They have different distribution depending on country but it ain't cheap! Lol. Way lighter though which is nice, and no chance of rusting. Quality was okay, not great. There are quite a few rough areas where the mold halves meet.
Does the Hydraulic Clutch help? Is it really that much better than a cable? I have a 94 xt350, I love it That dam neutral just like the other guy said, mine does it too, but I can find it when I want. It could be the 46 yrs of riding motorcycles? 🤷♀
Ya the hydraulic clutch helps so much. I'd say easily half the pill force, and far smoother
Why not use the grommet from xt 350 rim?, it has a hole for a rim look to that is covered whit a grommet
Good call never thought of that, thanks man!
So why would you need the second carb to still open slower? Couldn’t you just lean them out more and open them at the same time? Only asking because I’m probably going to follow what you did with the twin 28s just curious why one has to be delayed instead of in sync
Ya this has been an ongoing discussion on XT350 forums, the one guy that in the past has done it seemed to set them up like that. Which is how the stock carburetors work. I agree with you that we should be able to lean them out and open at the same time, the controversy comes from how the stock YDIS system works. Winter's almost over so I'll be back into it and finishing this mod soon. Hopefully I have some answers for ya 😂
@@todorow22 yea the YDIS set up is strange and trying to get it dialed in right is drivin me nuts lol so I was thinking this or doing like a 36-42mm single carb and make an adapter
@@trevormatthews7305 check out the Yamaha Warrior. It's a 350cc single (SOHC) but does use a single carb setup. I was also considering that swap, but what sucks is the rear shock is right in the middle so any single carb setup would need to be offset left/right to avoid the shock.
Went up to go in there is a locked gate and trespassing signs and fines for motorized vehicles
There always has been, signs are not laws. The majority of the area is crown land, and what is not crown land can be used as a easement to gain access to the crown land. Your correct though a full size vehicle cannot access it without a key to the gates.
OMG! I love Alan Watts!
Ya what a legend!

Damn bro some of those ruts and rocks were Sketch!
It doesn’t need any more power if it is jetted and tuned properly mine scares people. Faster than a modern day 450. 1995 xt350
Hi Can you give the info about jetting carb properly and tuned?
I just rebuilt the original. If jetted correctly it runs like a fricken monster. Goes 80 mph top speed but quick. And holds 65 mph all day
What specs did you jet them to?
I have a 92 XT 350, I did similar modifications before I ever saw this video I did the same thing in the front I pressed out the steering tube from the 98 Forks and pressed in the original. For the original look I kept the stock Dash but changed out the headlight for a 4X 7 LED from an automotive application in an added pods as well for the rear shock I did a lot of research and finally came across the shock that fits the dimensions and had a 4" stroke instead of the stock 3". it is dual adjustable with remote reservoir, 2.5" progressive rate spring and has air(nitrogen) assist that is adjustable, with the stock swing arm. suspension travel stock F/R 10", modified F12" R13". I did intake and exhaslust porting, also matched ports on the intake and exhaust. i deburred and cleaned any splatter from the O.E.M. exhaust pipe. port matched intake and the exhaust. upgraded to iridium spark plug, rejetted, tuned, synchronized the carburetors. I do have a YZ 450F swing arm, shock, brakes and wheel. but I'm pretty happy that I can keep up wheel to wheel with my buddy's 2016 WR 450 in a drag race and the suspension is more than capable of hitting big jumps. only major thing has been the cylinder to case gasket blew out leaking oil everywhere (they were 25 year old gaskets and I run it at higher rpm staying on the wheel of whoever is in front of me looking to go by. I push triple digit MPH (off road) every ride, because I can! ❤my XT 350 and my modified 94 XT 225
Man that engine works got me jealous. I need to port n polish. I also want to open up the exhaust manifold.
@todorow22 the porting can take some tug out in lower rpm's. I am a mechanic /Automotive Technician by trade with racing engine building experience and super car aspirations. a tech geek & gear head. if we raced against a Honda XR 350 with the same mods, the Honda is faster.. I enjoy the building, testing and torturing of my projects. if my XT was water cooled and had at least 5 qts of oil capacity I would probably be doing a turbo or super charger. my next major changes will be canshafts and higher compression piston🙂 carburetor tuning / rejetting carburetors
What shock was it that you found to work on the rear?
@@timzapel it's made by AFCO with their optional "z" end installed
what shock did you use on the rear? I'd like to do that mod!

Thanks man! Appreciate the support.
I owned a 2000 XT350M and liked it pretty well off the showroom floor. I did a couple of suspension mods to make it even better for what I preferred. Front: I installed the front fork, top and bottom triple clamps, front wheel, axle, and front brake system from a 1986 Yamaha IT200S. The reason was I wanted to install stiffer fork springs into the stock XT forks, but because the XT350 uses the small 36mm diameter tubes, I could not find any springs with the correct specs. So, plan B was to graft on the 43mm forks, wheel, and front brake from that IT200S. Since 43mm forks were extremely common and had plenty of spring rates to choose from, I was able to easily select and install the correct springs for the bike, and a side benefit was the IT200S front brake was firmer at the lever with more braking power. The IT200S wheel even was able to fit the XT speedometer cable drive gear and operate the XT speedometer/odometer. Rear: This was relatively short and sweet. I picked up the phone and called Works Performance and had them build me a rear shock for the XT. It was a quality unit with the typical adjustable spring preload, rebound damping adjustment, and remote reservoir. Installation was easy since it was designed for the bike. The result of these mods made my XT350M go from feeling like a good dual-purpose bike to a great dual-purpose bike. Combine that I kept knobby tires on it, and I would ride that XT anywhere else I would ride my full-on dirt-only bikes. Well worth the time and money.
Very cool, do you still have it?
@@todorow22 No, only because I have made a career of buying, riding, and eventually selling bikes. It was fun while I owned it.
Could you do a small video on your hydraulic clutch setup? Love your dedication to the xt350!
Sure I would be happy too! If you haven't seen my other video from last year's walk around I talked about it in that one but I'll plan a separate one too. I think out of all the upgrades I've done that one is by far the easiest, with the most impact. Having hydraulic clutch is sooooo nice.
