In this video, I overhaul the Bendix manual shift 2 speed hub out of my 1956 Schwinn American. I did not get any footage of the disassembly but it is fairly easy, remove the brake arm jam nut, unscrew the left cone from the axle, remove the brake pads and 2 segments, unscrew the clutch from inside the hub then remove the axle and sprocket assembly. What type of bolts are good for the chain pulley ? Mine just broke off looking into repairing mine soon
You want to use at least a grade 8 bolt? Usually we put Arp hardware on the rear sprockets. Make sure that the bolts are long. Enough, and have enough thread engagement in the hub Make sure to use red thread locker. It is also a good idea to check the bulb torque every service or sooner, depending on how hard you ride the bike. Thanks for the question good luck

Mostlikly it was a seized piston or broken valve spring. Common issue on the first Gen M8s. Thanks for the comment😀

Thanks, the manual isn't very clear. I was filling it to the upper round ring which is to much. I had a hard time finding neutral. Now I know why. Thanks again for clearly explaining it.

If the hub and basket have a small groove, how deep would you say before if necessitates a new assembly?

My switch failed and i found out it died when i went to pick up a headboard. I had to tie it to the roof!! Now i have a quick fix!!

My Car does not have a key lock on the trunk. It has an electric lock that is operated by the fob. Or the switch on the front door but it locks and unlocks normally.
Yes. 100% the spring is facing the bearing/ oil. I think what you see is the goldish color of the seal. Thanks for the comment.

My housing leaking under the thermostat where that clip is covering a drain hole

@@sideyardmechanic it’s a clip at the bottom of the aluminum housing with some sort of drain hole and it’s leaking on the transmission case
I looked at some pictures of the housing online. It looks like there is some kind of plug held in with a clip. Possibly used during manufacturing to cross drill a passage. You might be able to remove it and inspect for damage and reseal with a new seal or RTV. It might have an o-ring on the plug. Good luck
@@sideyardmechanic I did I now I have the front silver aluminum hose leaking idk if it has a tight seal ima try in the morning to take it off and put it back on and put the silver hose on first to ensure it has a good seal from tighten the bolts

Hello, I have the same case with my sonic 1.8. Random misfires without codes. My spark plugs were original AC Delco installed in November 2023 and I replaced the coil pack a year or so ago by the same ENA. I made a mistake when I installed it since I did not use the dielectric grease and when I removed them I noticed that the inner plastic part was affected. However, according to what I have investigated in many forums and videos, the sonic is very sensitive with parts that are not original, the original coil has to be the DELPHI or acdelco brand, both available on Amazon. I'm going to order the Delphi coil to see if it solves my problem.

@@sideyardmechanic I'm really a bit desperate, those push-pulls feel very bad and even more so that in my country there is more traffic than free passage. I even went to a place to have the catalytic converter checked, they put a camera in it and it looks partially clogged but very little. I even thought it could be the cause. what do you think?
I would also check fuel pressure, inspect and clean the throttle body and Mass air flow sensor. Those have caused me problems in the past on other cars.
