Is she doing this to make them easier to SING or easier to PLAY on her instrument? I'm not terribly knowledgeable about this stuff, although I find it fascinating.
long read but purely tone/timbre-wise from best to "least best" personally : 1. es: lovely clarity & richness. she really emphasized on showing off her tone on this album with her intentional vocal inflections and the right balance of power & sweetness. she also sounded much healthier than ever! 2. yt: youthful and insanely pretty. she sounded fresh from the oven and was christina aguilera & mariah carey's vocal love-child. really adore the moments she sounded chestier too (eg. f#5/g5 in baby i). 3. swt: the maturity and clarity really shined through on this album. her low notes were so tastefully done and emphasized. 4. me: her slowly transitioning into a more matured tone on this album gave a warm and youthful timbre. you could still clearly hear her beautiful tone in those mid-upper belts (eg. one last time f5 & problem g#5) unlike other belters where they can sound shouty instead. 5. dw: nice power and balance of chest & head mix. this tone is just a classic - it's probably what most people imagine when they think of ariana's voice. 6. tun: she can sound very nasal at times (probably because of being emotional during that time) plus you can tell she was pumping out songs after songs and her voice didn't sound 100% rested. 7. posi: this was unfortunate purely because the sound mixing on this album wasn't my fav and didn't work on her favor personally - reverby, obvious pitch correction, and just quite harsh (peep @8:21 - the difference between the same g5 riff from off the table and true story). i do think it'll be top 3 otherwise! also not in love with the rasp at times (except pov ) but the womanhood in her voice oozing absolutely makes up for it.

You can really tell who are the artists who care about what they do and have trained a seeked out coaches, and who are the ones that just do whatever and not care for their voice or even be good at what people pay them millions to do. And I don't mean people who lowered the key. Doing that is also part of taking care of your voice when you're no longer in your 20s
