Patient Instructions after Rotator Cuff Repair
My question is will the big pillow sling hurt a petit woman? Do they make smaller pillow slings. My friend is petit and had a pillow sling for her rotator/bicep repair. Ive borrowed it to see what it would feel like for my upcoming rotator cuff repair. Im also small and in the few hours i wore it, it caused so many aches and pains as it is so very big. It even affected my back and hips. Any advice? Or do they make an appropriate sling for small people.? And if so how can i find one? I did see a video where one women squeezed the back of the pillow smaller so if didnt hurt her so much. I tried this and it helped but i also dont want to mess up my repair when i get it. Thanks for any advice?

Im 14 have so much pain due to my meniscus. I got an MRI and am awaiting results from my Ortho
Bad video
Thes sling that they just gave me constantly rides up onto my neck. I added another strap to connect the two staps and it holds the one strap over my trap instead of riding up my neck all the time.
Yes, the sling straps can sometimes bother. Thats a good solution.
I had a massive tear repaired with an organic sheath yesterday, the nerve block ran out today & the prescribed codeine & paracetamol aren’t helping in the slightest even though I’ve already doubled my dosage. I’ve got a standard sling which I questioned the effectiveness of to the physio when I was being discharged she told me she’d never had them even when she was working in the private sector. Im in horrendous pain & if I don’t get any improvement by tomorrow I’m going back to the doctor to demand better painkillers. I’ve not had nothing like the information you’ve had in the US(I’m in the uk) never even seen my surgeon before or after my surgery.
Definitely will help to discuss with your physician.
raise the camera 😡
I've had 3 rotator cuff surgeries and no one said anything about this ,I did all wrong
I hate to say, who ever filmed this, how can I put this nicely, SUCKS!!!
your camera person sucks
This surgery is brutal very painful so be prepared
It's very challenging too😥😥😥
I just had surgery 7 days ago .. I wore the sling one day and no more I think I pulled something a few times can someone tell me if I’m ok or not
Would be a good idea to discuss with your surgeon
I just had surgery 7 days ago .. I wore the sling one day and no more I think I pulled something a few times can someone tell me if I’m ok or not
Why did you only wear the sling one day? I had surgery 4 weeks ago also...I was told to wear sling for six weeks. Hope you got an answer to your question. ❤️
It would have been good to see more of the actual shoulders than his knees…
Was trying to respect his privacy :)
my God this is right up there w/ learning to land the T-38..."get close to stall but don't let it stall but u have to stall to land but don't let it stall if u want to continue on"...somehow it works out (for most of us) 😁
😂😂😂😂 I just had surgery 4 weeks ago and was given no instructions about how to properly wear the sling. As a matter of fact, I hardly remember getting dressed and my husband taking me home. Anyway, using the sling is quite an ordeal and like you said...quite complicated!!! I love you description😂😂😂😂
Your video wasn't very good, couldn't see the top of what you were talking about !
good videos and 200% for the cameraman
2 days out from surgery left shoulder. Thanks for explaining the pillow function. I was not aware it is important. In fact, I was annoyed by it and removed it. Now I have a rolled up towel in between but will reset the pillow later. It is bulky and makes me feel like I am a threat to mashing door casings. I am sleeping on my back and like putting a pillow under the elbow as it reduces tension and soreness for sure (To elevate it slightly to near torso level or so). My Doctor is S. Hussain.
Good luck with your recovery!
thnx doc👏🙏
Thanks for this. I have my surgery coming up in 2 weeks. Was mentally doing great till I just got a call to schedule PT for 7 days post surgery. I am horrified now!
Hopefully it goes well.
What is the price of this shoulder surgery with implant?
I’m in Idaho just had total shoulder replacement, ac joint surgery and bicep tenodesis, cost $52,000 if you don’t have insurance. Luckily I do have it but paying deductibles aren’t fun either
Due for mine in a couple of weeks ugh 5/24😮get ahead of the pain Thanks😵💫🥺
I'm hoping you might be able to help It appears a nerve block during a rotator cuff surgery has left me with a blood clot and half of my right lung being nonfunctional.. Will not go into the specifics of the lack of response from the doctor who performed the surgery but a hospital stay was able to get me out of immmediat distress. A VERY GOOD PA was able to help me out with determing what was going on. Comparing pre op xrays and CTs he has determined half.of.my right lung is no functionimg . He researched and determined it may be necessary to have a surgeon go in and perform repair/ pressure release surgery on that chest nerve We are not able to locate a surgeon that can perform this surgery. I am close to the Dallas FT Worth area , there was a surgeon in that area who performed the surgery , but he is no longer a available (retirement??? Not sure) In any case do you have a referral of a surgeon who may be able to help and has experience with this post op /nerve block damage issue?
I read your experience...so very sorry. I hope your issue was able to be resolved. OMG... rotater cuff surgery is awful, even without complications. Hope you are better❤️❤️❤️
Just had my surgery April 24 and the worst part is getting comfortable
Had a big rotator cuff had surgery 2 weeks ago. Was sent home with a thin flimsy sling.
Omgoodness I've had my special sling for a while just had it fitted to my body Amazon has recliner zero gravity recliner under $60.00 ice machine should help or ice sling from Amazon. I'm so sorry you are in pain😢I certainly hope you find relief soon😊
Had surgery on 4-5-24, I wish my doctor had explained anything so I wouldn't be here watching a real doctor give the patient information. This doctor did a great job!
Sadly this is useless. Camera is too low. Can’t see what you are showing.
Lol, your mind eye is blind. This video shows a lot and is very helpful. Try giving it another watch, maybe you'll notice more info.
Thank you. I was trying to respect my patient's privacy.
Who has ever taken the video for you? They didn't allow z job. Sorry to say should do it all over.
yes. I made a few more to help understand these ideas better.
terrible camera person. The whole video was framed too low and you can't even see the shoulder. what a waste.
I think the worst pain was when on day 3 of Post OP which was my first PT session, the PT pushed down on my knee to get that full extension. Lordddd.
This should be mandatory for ALL patients and families or caregivers of postoperative shoulder surgery. EXCELLENT PRESENTATION!!!😮
camera guy is exhausting...

This popped up in my feed, so I clicked - but apart from your information and instructions, you really need to reshoot and repost this topic. The entire video has big issues with framing - much too low. Thank you.
Thank you. I made a few more. Hopefully those work better.
Video is shot too low!
A pool noodle would make a nice pillow for the shower too.
LEO Y Yazmin.❤❤
I’m 6 weeks post op rotate cuff, bicep tendon and ac joint resection. I had no wedge in the sling they gave me. Everyone I talked to said that was crazy, i had a small stuffed animal that I put in that spot and wow did it feel better. I was given oxy for pain but it made me violently sick even with zofran and the patch. I’ve had to power thru this with just ice and aleve. 😢 started pt yesterday and wow this is painful!
photography not good -sometimes can't see what you are doing
My sling does not have the pillow? Hmmm hope it heals right.
when can I start implementing nordics after hammstring graft (which week)?
Terrible camera work - was this person a midget?!
Thank you. I wish I had watched this earlier
Lousy film!
I watching this because I’m pretty sure I’ll need surgery, but good gravy, this video is so fussy, I’m doubting I’ll be able to do it. I have my ortho consult in 11 days. Maybe it’s because I’m 71 yrs. Old.
I had rotator cup surgery also had an armpit collapse 10 months in hardly any sleep sure sleeping pills help but not really, made my legs weak don`t know why, being right hand dominant could even shower still hubby wipes me butt thank god for him. cant reach the second shelf yes cant hold a cup of coffee yet 10 months in I need help showering still so friends its a tough operation GOOD LUCK...to my saving grace I love you more now Sam, it really is for better or for worse...
Hi Sir...I have completed my ACL surgery before one month...Can I sit and travel in backseat of a bike now?? Kindly suggest
I laughed, I cried, I cursed, I cheered, but most importantly, I learned..
My slings to big and the Velcro actually caused pain . found myself trying to adjust it
OK. Day 7 and my pain has been between a 3 and 7 or even 10 every day. This is the 3rd surgery on my shoulder and on this one I can definitely tell their was some work done. Full thickness tear of rotator cuff, torn labrum, tendinitis, bursa and arthritis. Anyway it's felt like it was dislocated the minute the block wore off. Throbbing, aching and burning with a distinctive feeling of unalingment. Aches in my wrist and elbow that was causing muscle pain down the arm and spasms in the back of my shoulder. Anyway taking my arm out of the sling and resting it on a pillow across my lap in a reclining chair seems to take the pressure off the joint. Last night in the shower I discovered underneath the armpit area was so swollen that when trying to lower or relax my arm at my side it almost acted as fulcrum rocking the ball of the shoulder forward and out of socket. It didn't fully dislocate but I felt it roll over the labrum and back in. I think it's very important for the Dr's to drive home the point of relaxing the joint. I think I've been causing my own pain just by pinching and stretching newly work on stuff. Thanks for the vid. Sorry for the book.
