Van Cliburn: Bridging the Culture Gap
มุมมอง 3.2K6 ปีที่แล้ว
When Van Cliburn won the first quadrennial Tchaikovsky competition in 1958, the Cold War seemed a little warmer. This documentary talks about the Cold War and how this Texan pianist was able to ease years of political tensions with only classical music and a smile. This was created by me, Jacob Siepker for the 2018 National History Day in Iowa state competition. Feel free to use it how you wish...

This was during the height of the cold war (1958) so when he won it demonstrated a huge signi...

    This is awesome. I've just started taking a look around in the editor now and adding some props etc. My goal is to make a battle arena where player aircraft spawn with no ammo but 100% fuel, then place "pickups" around the map that will add varying amounts of ammo / types of ammo (if that's possible) and fuel. Right now this all seems a bit of a minefield but hopefully it will all click into place.

    • @ItsFresnel
      @ItsFresnel 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That is an awesome idea! You can do all of that now too. There are waypoints you can add as props. I would suggest the sphere waypoint in that case. You can scale them down and set a vehicle resource control module to increase the ammo when the waypoint is triggered. They could even come back after some time like pickups in Mario cart.

    Wow, I did not expect the editor in this game to be this in depth or complex, with scripting and the lot. Not only that but the scenarios can be easily shared, added and started mid session by hosts via workshop, really cool. One question, is there a way to have a "end score" screen where all players scores are visible? Because I played the "Downward Dive" scenerio on a server and only saw my score in the end.

    • @ItsFresnel
      @ItsFresnel 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The possibilities really are endless, I think the scenario editor is where the sandbox features really shine the most in KitHack. The end screen score is a known bug that we will have a patch out for soon. It should let you show the final scoreboard at the end. For now, the default key bind is '?' for scoreboard.

      @ItsFresnel ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, you can use this clip. I was driving (not FSD) through the intersection when the Tesla spotted the red light runner and engaged the breaks while I was still trying to accelerate. I saw the oncoming car about the same time it appears in the video, so I was even wondering why the Tesla was stopping for the first moment. I am surprised I was able to stop in time, since I was in the intersection before the other vehicle was, but I am thankful it did. I'm glad I drive a Tesla, or I would be in the hospital or at a car dealership right now, both bad options.

    Do you know if it's possible to animate a single indexed input from a float3? I'm trying animate just the tiling on the Y access, but the input parameter I have to pass to the value processor "Offset" is a float3 and the output of the value processor $time is a float. All I've been able to manage is passing the value of $time to all 3 components at once. I can't figure out how casting and passing variables works in Designer because the current documentation seems like it was written by someone who speaks English as a second language and it's kind of confusing.

    • @ItsFresnel
      @ItsFresnel ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! You should be able to animate a single axis by passing the $time variable into a Vector Float2 node, and then into a Vector Float3 which will build up a new float 3 type with your desired inputs. I hope that helps!

    • @lanceuppercut8220
      @lanceuppercut8220 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, I ended up figuring it out last night ,but I couldn't figure out how to cast a float back into a float3 without swizzling the variables around. What sequence of nodes did you use?

    Hey thanks, this video was super helpful and answered some specific questions that Adobe's documentation doesn't address. This has got to be one of the most challenging programs I have ever tried to use. As you said, tutorials are hard to come by, probably this is not Adobe's most widely-used product. But it seems like it has a lot of potential if you can manage to figure it out.

    This story of a lost love of Van Cliburn is very intriguing. Van was a wonderful pianist and kindly gentleman whom a lady would love to have married. Are you able to release any more details or would this infringe his privacy, the lady involved and maybe that of your source. If this is true, then it is very sad.

    • @ItsFresnel
      @ItsFresnel 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      One could argue that, but I personally believe it kind of over simplifies the situation. I don't think any of the guardsmen had malicious intent going onto the campus. It was unfortunate nonetheless. As an Australian, how do you find yourself researching American history and politics?

    • @maccaholmes4854
      @maccaholmes4854 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      we were involved in the Vietnam war and had the draft as well...we had war dead and injured ourselves...my uncle was drafted and came back a shell of his former self..i also dont believe there was malicious intent going in from the perspective of the troopzsbut the leadership fanned the flames...I have come to know three of the wounded students through facebook...its not a matter of researching american history, its about feeling anger and outrage at a tragic event...and as we are close allies of America, anything America does on the world stage affects us...i also restate my position that the national guard are glorified weekend warriors and shooting into a crowd of unarmed civilians that posed no threat constitutes murder...and they should never have been issued live rounds in that situation
