At the time I was a Bowie fan, but skeptical of his new works; but he nailed this. I think what I was tired of was the media version of him.

Talk about putting your whole self out there. This was incredibly risky for Bowie and his performance was brilliant. He would have preferred a career as a stage actor but we got the rock star and I'm ok with that. Rest in peace, Starman.

I saw this performance. The way Bowie distorted his body to try to portray the life of the poor man was amazing. I studied John.

One of the most memorable pieces of theater I’ve ever seen… Before the show went to Broadway it actually previewed in Denver Colorado. I can’t remember what year. But I saw it and it was amazing. There was a particularly nice sequence in which a professor was explaining the elephant man to his students… it started with the prof pointing at original photographic slides of the actual grotesque original Elephant Man. the professor described all of his afflictions. Bowie was standing on the stage looking normal at first… but as the lecture proceeded, Bowie slowly contorted his body into the position he would use for the rest of the play. So you looked at the photos of the actual elephant man, you saw Bowie transform himself into the contorted theater version of that Elephant Man… and you never saw the original photographs again, but your mind carried and mapped all of those characteristics from the photographs onto the contorted Bowie. It was masterful theater!

Was that the time when "the lamb" lied down on broadway and David Bowie starred as a mentally and physically disabled dreamer on stage of the OFF BROADWAY B O O T H THEATRE ? The Hausmeister of thevBOOTH let me into his backstage dressing room and said,he would marry me on the spot if he was Bowie ..... Never saw such an o r d e r l y backstage dressing room in my life ....

Interesting that it clearly has production value with the costuming and Bowie is mirroring Joseph's physicality, but he has no makeup or prosthetics on his face. I wonder why they did that.

I think a lot of his songs have this musical attitude, on text level and also on his voice and singing attitude, it has a dramatical, theatric expression.

If David had foregone singing and concentrated entirely on acting, I'm sure he could have been Sir David of the Royal Shakespeare Company...he was that good an actor.

You can tell when someones a good actor (mainly celebrities) when you forget who they actually are during there performance. I watched this in the middle of watching a documentary about bowie so watching this and then going back to the documentary was very strange as he is a completely different person in this then he is in real life and when producing music. Such a talented man. Legends always die young.
