You missed step 133. You went from step 132 to step 134. Shame on you.

Heads-up: If your 22 has the vinyl poptop cover, there are rows of snaps for it at the edges, each side, on the cabin trunk. These routinely catch shroud wire while raising the mast, and tug the mast right or left, or stop the lifting entirely, at exactly the wrong time. I've kept a stick to kick em loose, but it works to duct tape over them before raising.
I notice you had your forestay free after raising the mast. My Santana stays were both behind the mast and you did not dare to use the forestay to raise the mast. i used the topping lift..

I just stepped into the adventure and bought me a Catalina 22. I'm about to find out if I'm a DIYr not. Because I'm new I'm sure I'm going to make a ton of mistakes. I like your mask cradle. Do you have any drawings on how you made that cradle and the tools that you used?

@@michellenicholes2087 I don't have a drawing door that, sorry. I just took a scrap that I had on hand and cut notches for the mast to rest in and for the cradle to straddle the pulpit.
@@stingysailor5677what was the trick to cutting the angles where it fits over the pulpit. The tubing looks like it's in a downgrade and spreading whiter as it goes aft.

Something I do is point the boat either into or out of the wind, so a gust doesn't send the mast over the side.

One question. I wonder whether the use of a "quick-release" mechanism (the "QRM") might interfere with the proper working of a furling drum on, say a CDI furler. Or might the addition of the QRM to the forestay make the forestay "too long" for the proper use of a roller-furler such as a CDI. Can you comment? Correct, Rick. The forestay would have to be shortened in that case. But a regular furler and a quick release lever are usually for separate scenarios. If you're going to be stepping the mast often, a rigid or flexible furler will add a lot of weight and make it hard to handle. A cruising furler is better in that scenario. You can find an article about them on my website. If you're set on a CDI type furler, a QRM isn't going to save much time considering the additional prep and handling time involved. Hope that helps. Question: I've got a '92 Cat22 and would like to also install a Bimini, can you make ant recommendations brandwise, and do you have it mounted forward to clear the traveller? Anything you'd change? Hi, Tim. It's been 9 years since I installed my bimini and I'm not familiar with what brands or online sellers are available nowadays. When I purchased mine, I just looked for one that met my size and material requirements at the lowest price. The closest interference that I have with mine is with the winches but, with the adjustable track, I can position it right where I want it. The only thing that I would change, and I might still do it, is to make a small, clear window to make it easier to see the mainsail from under the bimini. Right now, I either have to be seated fully forward and stick my head out one side or be seated fully aft to see over the bimini, neither are optimal. Other than that, I'm very happy with it.
Thank you so very much! A couple of quick questions: 1.) Are the quick connects on the forward shrouds the same size as the main forward shroud? I purchased the front shrowd quick connect do I just purchase two more identical ones? (Catalina Direct), 2.) Do I need to purchase any additional hardware to use my main sheet as you did to connect it forward and to the forward shroud or is the hardware for connecting it to the boom the same?
Yes, all of the quick release levers are the same size. Just be sure the connection terminal type is the same as the wire you are connecting it to, either eye or screw. I use the same hardware in both places but your setup might be different and you might need another shackle or other hardware to make the connections.

Hmmm, that is a genius system. gin poles i have used always attached to the mast. attach to the tabernackle hmmm.. i like it... boom/ginpole maybe not as much... and gin line at tabernackle at the sanctions ! great idea. i was going behind the tabernackle and dealing w/ arching of the lines , i will give this a try... ching for me... thanks for the great tips. my 1976 paceship mouete 20 has a heavy 24' mast.
what is the connection from the gin pole to teh mast? I do not see that?

Thanks for the videos, can you help me? Hurricane Ian broke my forestay and auto furler and the only thing holding forward tension on the mast is my halyard attached to the forestay chain plate. Have any recommendations for safely lowering the mast without a forestay in place?
Hi, Jack. Sorry to hear about your damage. If you securely tie off the tail end of the halyard to the mast so that it won't slip, you should be able to lower the mast with the same procedure shown in the video. Your halyard effectively replaces the forestay.

I have an 88 Catalina 22, there are 3 screws on top, do they just hold the cover plate in place, or, when turning, do I have to fill and drill new holes?
On your year C-22, those screws hold the chainplates from turning so if you need to rotate them, you will have to drill new holes.

Advice from someone with 6 stitches: Never stand above or in front of the base of the mast prior to attaching the bolt. If the crutch fails the mast will bounce and cut through a leg or belly with potentially lethal results.
