Hi Paul. Both are outstanding. I'm quite happy with the performance of the A1 so far. The Nikon Z9 (I have only tested a pre-production camera which had some quirks) is a great camera as well, both for photo and video. So it really depends on the use you want to give to the cameras. These are my pro & cons of both: A1 Pros: Ergonomics, customisability, compact and very well finished body, control elements, fast and sticky AF, AF modes, dual cards on both slots, overall image quality, overall video quality, 8K video amazing, no overheating, video file sizes. And of course how the camera performs with the prime lenses, especially with the 135mm f/1.8, the 200-600mm and the very lightweight 400mm f/2.8 A1 Cons: Lack of Animal/Bird Eye AF in video mode, tedious to switch quickly from photo to video modes, no focus confirmation box in normal video AF areas, LCD low res, no CFExpress B cards Z9 Pros: Nikon colours, AF speed, real FPS, video modes, including internal ProRes, way better customisable than previous Z models Z9 Cons: Bulky and heavy body, different shooting modes still only accessible through the front FN buttons, lack of control wheel, tedious access to different video modes, articulated rear screen, only electronic shutter Hope it has helped you.

@@JohnPaulV Yes I do. Especially when using the D-Cinetone profile. Actually, I don't tend to mix different cameras for one film, so don't have that issue to match colours.

Hi John. It's correct that the A1 does not have animal or bird face/eye detection in video mode (although it looks like it will be added in one of the next firmware updates, now that the new Sony A7iv has it). I use the Touch Tracking option which will follow the subject quite well as long as the background/foreground is not too busy and the subject does not move very erratically. Else I use normal tracking in Zone or Large Spot AF area (the only issue with this option is that you don't actually see any focus confirmation box, but the A1 nails it nearly 100%). And if the subject has elements like branches close by, then I focus manually using a Follow Focus. Regarding overheating I did not encounter any issue so far, and I have been shooting in India with very high temperatures and humidity, and for extended periods of time while in the bush. Having said that my work style is a mix of video and images, and rarely do I record more than 5 minutes in one go. Also, I always have the screen tilted when recording video. Hope this helps.
