Neo Ergo Sound Test | Alu plate | HMX Cheese
Finally got round to building the Neo Ergo... well it might be said to not be a complete build as for the first time I decided to ditch all stabs - for reasons including me not having entirely recovered from the horrors of working with Neo stabs (in particular the stoppers which are usually way too thick to be properly fitted) when building other Neo boards for friends. Surprisingly, the stab-less experience turned out pretty good and I've learnt that they're really not needed... except for the spacebar of course. Credit to those keyboard folks on TH-cam for coming up with this 999 IQ idea to go stab-less - you can't have a bad stabiliser, or won't need to worry about needing to regularly tune it, if the stabiliser is not even there to begin with!
Also, I'm kind of late to the HMX Cheese hype party - having used it I can fully understand why these took the keyboard community by storm when it first came out - because they were the OG HMX clack switches. Though, after the release of so many different HMX switches since then (has there been 20?), I think it can be safely said that these have lost their distinctive character. However, if you are a crazy switch hoarder like I am and/or like to keep pieces of keyboard history - the HMX Cheeses would score a recommend from me.

These switches are tight as heck to fit onto the board. I also felt that there wasn't anything distinctive or special going for these switches - so it wouldn't score a recommend from me. Although, it might be the FR4 plate that is making the build less enjoyable than I would have liked... I'll probably go get a PP plate cut for this board and hope that it makes future builds poppier. The Pleiades Subuwu V2s are way, way better than the V1s which were very mushy and overlubed. One critique I have for the V2s (which I think were also present for the V1 batch) are that they are still super tight to fit on keyboard plates and as a result super hard to remove. Other than that, they are quite pleasant to use and have a nice audible 'cherry-inspired' scratch to them. Shout out als...

Finally got round to desoldering the previous set of switches on the board - Duhuk Lumia Matcha V4s. Those get a thumbs down from me - they were too muted for my liking, with some switches very obviously overlubed to the point of affecting the typing feel. • @keeberweeb
      @keeberweeb 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I do have the original Kohaku.. but I have not actually got round to building it 😂 - so I can't really comment on the comparison yet. However, I've got to say that Kalam did a pretty good job with the Kohaku, and definitely so relative to the Kalam Unikorn. The anodization on the Kalam Unikorn was pretty terrible (I have the berlin blue unit), however the anodization on the Kalam Kyohaku turned out incredible. Sound wise, I was very pleased with my first build with the Kalam Kyokahu, whereas the Kalam Unikorn I felt required a few rounds of tweaking to get a build that was acceptable.

      Sorry for the late reply! That is a tough question but I would say the Vega because I find it really versatile, and it sounds good in every configuration I’ve tried. • @keeberweeb
      @keeberweeb ปีที่แล้ว

      They're really similar as they're both manufactured by Jerzzi, and have the same switch material composition (POM housing, POK stem). Specs wise, the only difference is that the Paradox uses a double staged spring while the Rouge uses a single staged spring. However, when I compared them, I found that the Rouge was just slightly higher pitched (and only for this reason I'll lean towards the Rouge). Otherwise, they both feel similar, since the Rouge uses a long spring so it is snappy. The Rouge, like the Paradox, has an above average stock experience too.

      Yes, I've heard of the BSUN X switches but didn't join the local group buy for them. I may get them straight from Unikeys instead. As I've not used the BSUN X switches yet, I can't make a proper comparison. The switch material composition of the two switches are very different, with the Akashi switches having a POM top, PA12 nylon bottom and UPE stem and the X switches having POK housings and a LY stem. Based on what I've read / watched on the X switches, I suspect they would be more clacky than the Akashi switches which I find to be a nice combination of deep and clack (i.e., somewhere in the middle of the spectrum). The X switches should also feel a bit heavier bottoming out at 52g as compared to the Akashi switches bottoming out at 42.5g (both springs are single stage, though the springs on the Akashi switches are apparently 1mm longer).

      Thank you for your kind words! Very much agreed on the awkward gaps, probably another reason why I prefer regular 60% and 65%s over this :)

    you may want to change the placement of the mic a little bit, the audio sounds a bit off

      I will try to experiment with placement of the mic for subsequent videos. However, if your concern is that the sound is coming off a little 'thin', that's because it's really how it sounds in real life with the stock MZ Spring switches. Thanks for the feedback nonetheless!
