Jumping My Horse Willow For THE FIRST TIME In Over 6 Years | I CANT JUMP
Come along to a show jumping arena hire with us, I have not jumped my horse Willow in over 6 years due to him having a suspensory injury back in 2018 and i was advised by the vet and physio not to do any jumping or pole work with him for a while
Willow has always been a keen jumper, and now his ridden shows are finished for the year i think its time to get him out to some new activities this winter
Don't forget to subscribe to @KarenBadrick1 to follow along with our journey
Here I share my journey from a complete novice horse rider to now competing at horse of the year (HOYS) shows whilst being a completely self-taught equestrian.
I have failed so many times over the years but always learnt something from it, I hope that my TH-cam channel will be able to help teach you all the little bits that nobody seems to share and help progress you on your riding journey quicker than I did on mine.

Glad I asked if he could be bored of showing lol. He certainly lit up jumping 😳 he absolutely loved it, great to see you both having fun 😊
Thank you so much, it was great fun 🤩
Blimey some of the comments about fellow followers being keyboard warriors? Armchair critics? Jelouse, negative people? 😮 I love your vlogs been following you and Lewis, well over a year. It's your decision alone if you continue on yt, I think your an inspiration to many 😊
Thank you so much for being here, we really do appreciate you all, I know that as the channel gets bigger there will always be some negativity but it just seemed constant for a little while The comments on this video has lifted my spirits a bit, I do have a nice community on here x
@@KarenBadrick1 yes you do, also you've been in this horse/showing game long enough to know what comments to take on board and which ones to dismiss. If you do move to Norfolk in the future, you will have to come meet my lot 😊
Hi Karen, it's Deb here, rubber wall mats, leg yielding etc. Anyway I always watch you but rarely comment but you need helpful advice with Willow and his way of going in the show ring. Watch your new jumping video and see how much better he is going in the snaffle, he is not behind the bit nor overbent, he was also much better when he went showing in the snaffle bridle with you and Lewis, I wanted to speak with you then. The bit with your double bridle is too much for him, do you have to ride him in the double, is it required? I know nothing about showing, which is why I ask. If it's necessary to ride in double then please consider an easier bit such as shorter shanks (curb) and plastic bit piece. You can buy bits now where you can change the mouth pieces, sorry I can't remember what they're called, but this is kindly suggestion, watch your jump video and you will see what I mean. He also did a lovely bit of extended trot in that video too. Anyway I wish you and yours all the best, take care Deb
You both looked great out there and having loads of fun😂. Willow really loves to jump and would be lovely to see more of you jumping him. He is so happy You can jump and maybe if you took a few jumping lessons you will feel more confident. could do some working hunter shows with him. He is a star.
OMG!! Karen I am in AWE of you!!!! I’m freaking terrified of jumping! (Although have secret dreams of doing a xc course! 😂) You did amazingly well, and you blooming well can jump!! Those last few, when they had gone up a bit you both looked so smooth and fluid over them. Willow clearly loved it and has a cracking jump on him. How about a spot of working hunter with him in the future?
Wow you both had a lot of fun and you jumped well and sat the little bronks lol and you could do clear round.
Willow is definitely the type of horse I liked jumping. He definitely did enjoy his jumps he did. You was quite good at jumping those jumps the one little tip I would suggest is that you give a bit more with your hands. When I had jumping lessons I was always taught to reach towards the horses ears to make sure that I never accidentally caught the mouth of the horse but that may have changed now. Keep riding forwards after you have just jumped to try and provent the horse from stopping reaching his head down also riding forward after the jump will teach the horse to not learn to stop as soon as he jumped and keep moving forward and not suddenly slow down or stop after the jump to make sure that the horse doesn't just lose energy after a fence.
You,this esme,Harlow and popcorn,
I think he absolutely loved that! And you didn’t do a bad job at all Karen considering you don’t jump, you did super! I think he’d make a cracking workers xx
Willow seems to like it ,trying going in two point just as you are going over the jump , supposedly you sit deep in the canter and as he goes over the jump let that impulsion put you into two point over the jump ,which keeps you off gis back use a neck strap and press your hands into the side of his neck for more balance until you learn how to balance on a jump , you really aren't as bad as you think you are 😊😊❤❤
My arm chair expertise, from following many YT eventers and their lessons is 1) get a strong, consistent canter 2) easier for the horse if you jump over in 2-point -- easier on their back and maybe that makes you rock more with their movement? 3) practice straightness 4) trot polls are just as good for developing the horses' core muscles :) Willow really looks like he likes jumping and you are much stronger and better at it than you think, imho. Thanks for being brave and taking us along :)
10:14 wheeeeee… jumping is fun 😁 great mental and physical stimulation for him. 11:46 😂😂 saying this as she’s jumping… yes yes you can ma’am. He did very well.. nice and straight before and after jump.. and he did great job with him rhythm into jumps. You should be quite pleased with him and you… see didn’t really need that oh shit strap to hang onto🤣👍l 21:51 🧡
You both did brilliant. Well done xx❤
👍
Dunno who was enjoying that session more, you "wheeee" or Willow bucking!! 😂😂😂 Deffo put a spring in Willow's step! Maybe a few jumping lessons, and see where you go from there!
You were both amazing! You look great and Willow looked like he had such a good time. Will you be doing more jumping? 🐎❤️
Thank you 🤩 We both had such fun, I will do a little bit of jumping with him just for fun, nothing serious because of his old suspensory injury, but the plan is to do more jumping with gambler 🥰
It seemed like he had a great time.
He certainly felt like he really did enjoy it 🥰
After at least 6 years of not jumping its easy to see that willow enjoyed himself, Jumping is something ive never had any confidence in doing, i always worry im going to fall off
Willow has a very good jump ,looked like he was really enjoying that lesson Dont think your jumping is that bad you did really well as you have not jump in over 6 years you did great, as long as you have fun that is the main thing.
Willow loves jumping! And you can jump. You need to believe in yourself❤
Willow really enjoyed his jumping karen. You did great. Yes a few jumping lessons will give you a lot of confidence..its not all about competitions with horses. Its just about having fun and enjoying yourselves...❤❤❤Willow is stunning Karen. Such a good boy❤
you check with the horse chiropractor if everything is OK with willows tail the way it hangs to the side a bit
Yes he has been checked over regularly and they can’t find anything wrong Just put it down to how it laid when he was in the womb
Haha karen they will never stop asking, must be so annoying 😅
@@KarenBadrick1 I was going to say that I can tell you don't have 10 sooty palominos that are all slightly different colours, because of Willow's tail jink! 😂
you will have a HOYS worker there if thats something interests you? xx
😂😂 he might make a HOYS worker but I’m absolutely petrified of jumping 😂 xx
@ I was! but it was either show in the flat classes with a fab pony 100% true to type and nearly perfect conformation BUT others were 'flashier' than her (she was also buckskin). we went to a show and i entered the novice workers, the judge LOVED her and even tho we got eliminated he pulled us back in the ring and told us that she would win hoys one day.. i was also terrified but after lots of lesions we got to hoys!! xx
Wow what great fersilertis thay have there , willow looked like he was having such amassing fun . He would make a great working hunter pony . Karen if you sit deep in the saddle ,AND give with your hands and go with the flow . I don't think ent of the jumps where hire than 60cm . Take care and all the best .good luck for this week end ,for your horse live show . 😊😊😊👍👍👍
Looked like great fun.
It certainly was 🤩
Willow really enjoys his jumping fire in his belly , mission accomplished ! he is bold Tally..HO, hold on tight!!Best Wishes☺x
He certainly enjoyed it 😂 I just need to find out how to go with him better then I might enjoy it more 🤣
@@KarenBadrick1 Really hope so!x
Well done Karen ❤
Thank you so much ❤️❤️
Working hunter pony? 🤣 xx
This may be something we try next year to change things up for him 😂 I know there is definitely one venue near us that does there working hunter on a surface xx
That was fun!😂❤
Yes it was fun in the end 😂 Jumping scares the life out of me 🤣
And i know, its so hard for you, so many choices, its like A GAME OF CHESS THIS YEAR, IT HAS NOT been a good year, but remember the wheel of fortune always turns, depth of despair, WILL turn, twist, and give all repair.XX
All of us love you, help always here, DONT GO, you know im qualified, but i dont teach the normal way. I HELP YOU AS A TRUE PURE RIDER WHO communicates and works the way that is the best for you, NOT copying, you are a pure loving rider who rides, cares greatly
Hun dont leave your fab so are your horses ignore the negative and go onwards and upwards everyone gets a time in there life that thinks is it worth it but you are amazing you have a lot of support on here by the people who care hold your head up high and continue your great journey with your wonderful family ❤
Thank you so much for your comment, it really does mean so much to me x
To the salon… 🧡
He looks amazing after a good pampering 🥰
@ yes… yes he does👏
Ooooh I do love a shiny black coat ❤❤❤ beautiful boy!
Black coats look amazing don’t they 💙 Thank you
