We are Bart, Kim and Liz and we are SAILING THE WORLD!
We met on a sailing school (Zeilschool de Veenhoop)in the Netherlands, where we were both sailing instructors. We were both in love with sailing and soon after we were in love with each other ;)
After a lot of traveling and rental boats we decided to buy our own sailing yacht. In 2018 we became the proud owners of 'Tranquillity' a Scanmar 33 foot sailing vessel built in Sweden in 1985!
After 3 years of sailing holidays we decided to take the big step and plan to sail the world. Minor hick-up we became parents on 19-02-2019 of Liz!
This channel will be all about sailing, sailing with a child, planning to sail the world and of course our life when we are cruising around the globe.

The End Of Our Sailing Life - What Are We Going To Do? - ep 83

But we will not be sailing on the oceans anymore. Before we explain we will show you some of our inland trips through New Zealand. And Bart has got a job interview.

Brilliant video. One of the best training videos on the Parasailor that I have found and one of the few for us monohull sailors. Especially appreciate the sail trimming section of the video.
Thank you so much for the nice compliment Pete! Hope you have fun flying one😃
Try the prop in chop & you will find it is slower than a fixed one because the chop stops the boat & it takes time for the prop to re pitch to get drive. In other words it pulses. Just look over the stern & you will see the water jet out, stop then jet out. The boat will not punch through the waves, I have been a freind of their MD for 30 years & they know about this. When the boat starts to move forward under sail you will have to lock the prop as it will spin like the fixed one & not feather. Manouvering in port needs practice as it can do wierd things until you get used to it. It has a strong prop wash Where it wins is motor sailing. You can just put it in fast tickover whilst sailing & it will pitch up & give miles more extra push than a fixed prop Mine has 5000 hours use now
One of my favorite sailing channels. Best of luck for the future.
Thank you Terry! Much appreciated😃 We are all good btw, both working in Auckland. Getting Tranquillity ready for a summersail here during Christmas😃
Nice video’s.. the problems you had with antifouling systeem were not new. I have a boat in Zeeland the Netherlands and last year the y take a sailing boat out the water. The growth of 2-3 inches on the boat . The manager from the Finsulate company was informed that the boat was taken out of the water and he showed up. He was shocked and didn’t know what to say. The owner of the boat was very unhappy like you… have a nice life
Tha ks for ypur response!
good video, I love it. Thanks for sharing this and all the best to you and your family. I am just closing my first circumnavigation and think of doing another round but would love to improve on my downwind setup. I do have an assymetrical on a top down furler and that works great to about 160 degree but not very stable from there to about 175 and only good to about 15 kts. I am a small boat too. 31 foot Monsun at 4 tons. Doing 2000 nm Wing on Wing drives me insane so I really consider a Parasailor because every circumnavigation is 70-80% downwind (if going West). You are a small boat too and say you have flown yours to 19 kts. Have you flown it up to 25 by now ? Have you done extended dead downwind ? If so, hows the stability dead downwind. Ever had to take it down in blow (25+) .....
Yes we have had ours up with 27. And that was scary. Then we made the mistake of trying to take it down. And because of taking it down we ripped the sail unfortunateley. Lessons learned is: Leave it up and try to manage Or furl out your genoa and bring it down behind the genoa. (It was off course not planned to keep it up in those winds. But we got a sudden increase) Stability dead down wind is still very good. But sailing at 170° is a little more comfortable
And she is so easy to gybe. That's why I would not run dead down wind.
Surprising you don't show the steps involved in the assembly of the dinghy whose components fit into the 2 bags. It would be of interest to know what is involved and how much time it takes, particularly if you are a day sailor who wants to stow it in their vehicle.
There were allready 4 unpacking and assembly video's out on you tube. So we wanted to focus on the performance and usage as a live aboard sailor. And it must be said, as liveaboards we only pack and unpack like twice a year. On a very large crossing. All just 3 to 4 day crossings we keep the dinghy inflated on our bow😃
Have a look at this video: th-cam.com/video/HEEv3SmsOto/w-d-xo.htmlsi=PrPwsoBsoK0z9ITl
@@SVTranquillity Thanks. I had clicked a link on a marine retailer's website that directed me to your video.
What model and diameter did you buy? I have a very similar boat so this would be very useful, thanks!
I had to check. It is an H5-394
@@SVTranquillity Hi, just checking does that mean 394mm diameter? Thanks!
@@alvaroperezguardiola3312 I think so. But I am not sure. The supplier picked the size for us.
Super Video - trying to order all parts that don’t come with it - is the threaded fitting for the little freshwater hose (6x8mm) for the plastic tank connection included? If not - what is it called? Or perhaps you have a list of the parts you use? Thanks again for helpful video
I did not buy much extra. The little blue hose and grey connection are included. As are a lot of connections for the bigger hoses. I just bought some electrical cable 4mm2, reinforced hose and a truehull with seacock🙂
Thanks so much for prompt reply, similar to you, my boat is in a very remote location and I’m trying to order everything beforehand to take with me. Hope the Zen is still working well for you.
Haha we will say tomorrow morning for 3 am if it is before 12am, if it is after 12 am then we will say, on accident, tomorrow morning then correct ourselves and say, i mean later today...😂
😂😂
Are you still happy with the size of the 260?
Yes! But if we had a bigger boat we would definately uograde to a 3 m
I am in Tahiti Marina Papeete myself and curious to know what customs fees had to be paid when you imported from New Zealand? Really good review and looks like a great craft. Sun cover a good idea I should think. Cheers
Well you added an extra blade so you may be overloading your engine and although you are going at lower rpm you may be using more gas. I believe a 2 blade prop is more efficient I believe a folding two bladed prop is the best fir efficiency.
No we are not overloading. Because the prop did not became bigger. And because of the adjustable pitch it actually is less load for the engine at all times. The adjustable pitch works as a gearbox. And after 3 years of sailing with a 2 blade and 3 years with the autoprop we can conclude it is 30 percent more efficiënt in fuel consumption. But you have a valid point. Since it is also not very good to run the engine on low rpm all the time we have almost the same fuel consumption as before. With the difference we just go faster, so less fuel usage in the distance covered. Which is not as much as 30 percent more efficiënt. More likely to be 15 percent. But you are sooner at tpur destination😃 A folding 2 blade will definatly be faster when sailing. Even less drag.
It is very very expensive sail and not UV stable so have short life span but I agree it is amazingly simple to use, very pracyical and beatiful!
Maybe string netting across the transom to help keep items aboard.
Good one! After 1 year we still did not close up and never lost anything 😃
Rolf Magnusson is a legend in Swedish yacht design. His most famous boat is the half tonner Joker/Ballad
Hi guys. After some time with the unit would you buy it again? Any issues you can share that would help a prospective buyer and installer? I am on verge of deciding on a watermaker for my boat and the Zen30 Is on the short list. Thanks.
Yes definately! Only obvious tips. Try to make water in the clearest water possible. The filter on the schenker is quit small. So you go through them fast. Do not try to swap the filters for bigger ones. I did it, but you get a different pressure and the bigger filter houses cannot handle it. So I swapped back to original. You can make small 5micron filters from bigger ones. But you cannot simply half them. So measure with rhe original filter.
@@SVTranquillitythanks for this - valuable tip.
Dear Bart, How many HP outboard engine would be minimal or comfortable with the same dinghy and 2 persons only? Kind regards and happy sailing, Pieter
Hi Pieter, We could not get our takacat planing with our 6 hp 4 stroke. So if ypu are able to fit an 8 hp 2 stroke you keep the same weight and you must be able to plane. If you do not need to plane a 5 hp for two will be very okay. Even 4 maybe
@@SVTranquillity Interestingly, my Takacat 340 planes easily with a 6hp 4 stroke and one or two people aboard. Maybe the longer waterline length helps it get up?
at least 24 boats just finished a week to two week stay in Minerva Reef. One of my friends said it was stormy, but none of the folks there, some of whom are Vloggers on TH-cam, have put videos out and won't probably for a while, as they get behind . My friend barely does TH-cam and he was the last to leave Minerva pretty much. Probably because he really enjoyed it ? They were mostly heading to Tonga/Fiji ect.
Yeah I know! Our video is from 6 months ago. We sailed from Tonga to New Zealand. For now we quit sailing full time for a while. But we feel a bit jealous about all the boats in Minerva now🙈 Would love to get some of the lobster again😁
Dank voor jullie beelden so far, veel succes in NZ
I enjoyed your video,well done!
Thanks Brett!
3 o' clock tomorrow morning.
Hello, good morning and thank you very much for sharing our experiences on your TH-cam channel. We are thinking of installing a Bruntons Autoprop propeller on our 38-foot sailboat. After so many miles traveled, what would be your experience and rating of this propeller? Regards
We are still very happy with the autoprop. Hadn't had any incident with it. And it is just amazing how much speed you will get. And as cruisers do not underestimate the luxury of motorsailing. This prop really helps to give that extra kick and keep your boat up to speed when sailing upwind in nasty waves.
It is not a good idea to revele such place....
So can you explain why not?
"At 3am tomorrow " I would say. {You know it is 'morning' because you have used "a.m."}
Hi Kim, Liz and Bart. Your video is superb👍👍. It's quite rare to see a parasailor on a monohull. Its use is really very detailed. I looked at it very often and finally bought a second-hand sail. But there is little information or guidance for its installation. I noticed that you have two pulleys for the lines, which are installed on the fargue rail: is this installation strong enough? This would really be ideal for me👌. I wish you a good stay in New Zealand and great sailing⛵🏝⛵.
Thanks for your comment! The seller of parasailor recommended to use it this way on our boat. So without extra costs to make a gennaker bow pole or something. The force at the bow is not that much as it is to the sheets. So this worked out really well.
Brilliant
Thanks! That was a really helpful video, received much valuable information. Like mounting the watermaker on top of something. I was considering hanging it, that obviously was a bad idea. Are you still happy with the ZEN 30?
Nice thank you. This is why we make the video's😊 And yes we are still very happy with the ZEN 30. We had some issues but all my own fault. Do not try to change the small filterhouse for a bigger one. They cannot deal with the pressure and will break. So get a good supply of small filters. You can buy the bigger filters and cut them to size. Do not half them because they will be too short. So use an old filter as a measurement.
@@SVTranquillity Thanks a lot! Fair winds to you!

Hi Bart, Kim and Liz. Thank you so much for making this video. I've dreamed of having a parasailor for a long time and now purchased a second hand model for my 8.4M sailing boat. Searching for guidance, I found your channel. Not only do you share your experience in a very practical and complete way, I appreciate that your style is to deliver the facts without the padding. I learned so much. I will get afloat at Easter so will be sure to watch again just before that. What I especially notice in this video is the very steady camera work, the perfect angles and the on-screen annotations and top quality sound. It's so easy and pleasant to watch, and I learn a lot. The drone footage is a bonus. Great video doesn't happen by accident! Until now, I did not subscribe to any sailing vessel TH-cam channel. It's time to change that 🙂. Tot ziens! Oops - looking through your channel, I see you are entering the next chapter of you life. While you move on to new pastures I will catch up on all your past videos. I've visited New Zealand. What a great place to settle, even if just for a while.
Hi! Thank you for your wonderfull comment😃 We hope you will have a great time flying the parasailor. We hope, after you have cought up on our video's, we can serve you with a couple of more video's sailing around New Zealand.

So many lovely memories... it's a pleasure to watch your movie with all the places we also have visited before... our kids were around the same age as Liz, when we visited Cape Reinga and went sand boarding in the sand dunes! I really do understand your decision to settle down in NZ. Definitely not the worst country to live in. As you already know we have lived there for a shorter period of time and enjoyed every single day. Our kids really liked the school they attended in Auckland even if schools in Sweden are also very good (as least the ones our kids have attended). I am already looking forward to your upcoming videos about life and sailing in NZ! Good luck with everything and keep us posted! PS: Yes, Autosol is great! Made in Germany! We have used it plenty of times. I just used it a couple of days ago to polish our propeller and even our tank which I hade to take out and clean in the process of the engine change (used Autosol only on the outside of the tank though).
Thank you! We hope to have an awesome time here and we will try and make great video´s about the sailing and about life in New Zealand. Take care and you can start counting down to your sailing season!
I wissen You all the best. You friends from Menedi will stay in NS aß well. So Good luck to All of You. My old schoolfriend from SY Alrisha are in Whangarei aß well. It seams that the Focus of the World is turning to kiwi-country 😂
Years ago I was talking to another sailor about sailing the world. He mentioned the route he would want to take and he said: ¨and probably like any other around the world cruiser we will end up in NZ and stay there¨ hahaha so it is a known thing.
Wow jongens!! Geweldig.
Congratulations all of you! I grew up in Auckland (on the North Shore and in the Eastern suburbs) - great city. If you carefully chose where you live, Liz will be zoned into a good school and will have an awesome educational and culturally rich experience with her classmates. Working on the Nth Shore, you'll probably want to live there, instead of having to cross the Harbour Bridge to/from work every day.
Thank you! Yes I guess we will want to live in North Shore. Although Kim needs work as well and she will probably end up in City Central. So we first start living on the boat in Bayswater Marina. Kim can take the ferry to the city center. And when we look for a real home (weird to think about that) We will try and find something on the north shore still close enough for Kim to get to City Central. Hopefully without using a car😉
What a fantastic boat. I love it.
Hello, it is tremendously important the decision taken by you and in fact it is tremendously GENIUS, SENSIBLE, PRUFENT, INTELLIGENT AND WISE. CONGRATULATIONS AND GOD BLESS THE THREE OF YOU. PS. LIFE RULE No.1 the less you count, the better off you will be. Rule of Life No.2 Dreams are not counted, they are shown. The baby is growing at 4G speed. 💯👏👏👏
Thank you! Yes Liz is growing like a real dutchie :)
Ik ben geboren in Nieuw Zeeland, verhuisd naar Nederland. Waar ik met Bart in het AMC heb gewerkt. Grote kans dat je de baan zult krijgen want Nederlandse Ok assistenten zijn zeer gewild in Auckland
Once your sail starts needing repair it only gets worse. Its typically better to just replace them if you guys can. You can have them put you channel name it to help you guys self promote. Thanx for the video cheers.
That was a great video... very authentic... it was obvious how worried you were when suddenly leaving Manura Reef, not an optimal start of such a trip. I would have been worried, too. But, again, you did it! I'd say not only Tranquility performed very well - you did, too. What a feeling it must have been to approach the shores of Aotearoa... actually, my wife and I also cried when watching you sailing into the Bay of Islands... well done!!
Yes it was far from ideal. Luckily though we made up the plan to leave on friday allready. But we were talked out of it by the weather router. So when we all of a sudden left we knew it was in the end our own decision to go at this day. It really was a very emotinal moment. Thanks for sharing how you and your wife are feeling with us😇
That's a tough call... but really interesting to see and hear how you cruisers spending so much time on observing the weather. A very special place this reef. Looking forward to see your next video about the last passage to NZ!!!
Yep this is what we always do. But not always with a group of people. And I must say we did not liked it very much. Cause like we explained people have different kind of opinions about sailing and different performance of boats. So we think it is better to just make your own calls😉🙃
I couldn't agree more @@SVTranquillity
OMG.... this package situation would have driven me crazy... but you seemed to stay calm all the time. And you were successful in the end! Well done!
Well it drove me crazy. The final day I was this close to falling down and start crying😅
I completely understand!!! @@SVTranquillity
