    You don't become resilient by avoiding such small challenges as words you don't like. You don't cultivate strength by removing challenges. The better solution is to stop pushing crap like this and normalize being an adult.

    • @balancedbusinesscoach

      You also don't become resilient by being verbally abused and belittled. There is a huge difference between giving feedback and sh*tting on employees. Just because a leader is respectful and careful with their words doesn't mean they are removing challenges for their employees.

    • @Andres9632

      That’s actually exactly how people become resilient. Overcomming and tolerating aversive stimuli is the name of the game. I would know, I’m a behavior analyst and creating resilience is my daily job.

    • @balancedbusinesscoach

      @@Andres9632 The resiliency isn’t built because of the abuse, it’s built because of the strong relationships that person has, their mindset and outlook on life, their self-confidence, etc., DESPITE the abuse, so they are able to overcome it. Leaders should be contributing to the building of resiliency, not trying to break it.

    • @Andres9632

      Despite the abuse is correct. Without aversive stimuli is incorrect. That’s like saying you can tolerate being tired while running a 25k without ever experiencing being tired because you have a strong relationship with your coach that built up your self confidence. If there is no aversive stimuli, there is nothing to overcome and you’re hoping that the person’s natural tolerance is enough instead of reliably building the skill through exposure. Abuse in the workplace definitely leads to burn out but your proposal does not increase tolerance to things that cause burn out. It simply avoids exposure to burn out causing elements and then claims increase of tolerance.

    • @balancedbusinesscoach

      @@Andres9632 I think watching the full video may give better context to what Is briefly mentioned in this clip but I'm in agreement with your explanation above. I don't believe leaders are there to remove all challenges or averse stimuli, but I also don't believe they should be actively causing them (which is what happens in many toxic workplaces).

      Thanks for your comment, Sam! I also agree that employees always have the option to find a different job (although with this job market its not quite that simple), however, in this video I am specifically speaking to unreasonable workload, toxic work environment, etc., things only the company has control over that directly contribute to burnout.
