Re-magnetizing a Model T magneto
มุมมอง 2.5K4 ปีที่แล้ว
As one knows, a good operating magneto on a Model T Ford enhances engine performance greatly. This particular Model T's magneto strength was weak. After re-maagnetizing the magneto magnets with the power (voltage/amperage) from an arc welder, the magneto performs well now. The car is much more drivable now.

    How did they lubricate those gears behind the flywheel? looks like the coils are all exposed to gear box lube.nothing appears sealed?

    • @richdobson9384
      @richdobson9384 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The gears behind the flywheel (transmission gears) share a crankcase with the engine block, both using the same motor oil for lubrication. And, yes the field coils are exposed to the motor oil just as Henry Ford designed it.

      This looks like a Model T wheel although I suppose it could be for some other vehicle. If it’s for a T the steel rim is the felloe. There were no wood fellows used on T wheels except on early Ts without demountable rims.

      There are two wagon/carriage wheel builder’s tools used. One is a cone with a blade on the inside. This is used in a brace and bit to put a cone shaped taper on the end of the spoke. Once this is done another special tool with a blade is inserted at the end of the cone and used to turn the tapered end into a tendon. Hard to explain but the tools work well. I used them to put the tendons on the spokes for my Model T wheels. You can often find the tools at flea markets.

      This its not welder its getting the magnet magnetized, same today in engine , when engine its running ark positive on the crankshaft then the engine its energized only when its run not with engine off that will welded all together, but if running will magnetized.

    Great video guys. I just finished mounting tires to the front rims of my '26 Model T Touring Car, and your film was very helpful. I was lucky enough to have a neighbor who'd gotten a rim compressor at a swap meet. He offered to swap it to me for an antique fan. It worked like a charm. The first tire took me about two hours, but after I got the hang of it, the second one only took about a half hour.
