เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 29 ธ.ค. 2018
Hi, my name is Julie! I’m 40 ish and live with my lovely partner Damien and my 3 kids! I have created this channel to provide helpful insights to being a student teacher in Scotland. Some thing you can expect are helpful hints and tips on parenting, how to help educate your children, what you can learn in Scotland and about Scotland (and how to entertain the kids!).
This channel is an insight into my life as a middle aged wife/mother and student teacher and all my ramblings!
I love Disney, Florida and mindfulness, and of course SCOTLAND! So this channel will also include videos of our holidays and outings.
Follow me in my everyday journeys :)
I look forward to reading your comments and feel free to follow me too on my Instagram at thescottishhousewife

If used this way the restorative approach is not effective and ends up undervaluing our kids.

Failte, thanks for sharing the teacher interview details. Great points.
Glad it was helpful! ❤️❤️
Does pdge gives us post study work visa for two years? And do international students stands a chance to get teaching job after the course like in PGCE? Lastly what about bursary ? Like we get in PGCE ( 3000 pounds per month)
Hi, I am not sure about visas required from abroad. The PGDE requires you to have another year where you teach your own class for the year but have a mentor (there is a flexible route which means that you have to find your own placement and mentor and it requires you to complete 190 hours over 3 years I think. Definitely visit www.gtcs.org.uk/knowledge-base/articles/ways-to-complete-probation-through-the-flexible-route to find out more about it though. I also do not think that the pgde is funded for international students- not sure if that’s what you were asking. The job situation is quite challenging in some areas but they are looking for teachers in more remote areas I believe.
Do you do private online tutoring x
No I’m sorry I don’t x
I could have used this 20 years ago when I was learning maths
Thank you for your kind comment-it’s one of the main reasons I have the channel- just to try and help and give ideas ❤️
I did my training back in the 1990s and haven't taught since. The lack of classroom experience is what has me nervous the most... thanks for this!
Fingers crossed you will gain confidence with good colleagues should you return x
Fantastic video, thanks for sharing!
Thank you, I glad you enjoyed it.
Thank you so much for listening to my suggestion and making this video, this was really helpful! I’m definitely going to try and use the secret rubbish idea! X

Hi there, I first started watching your channel when I went back to uni in 2018. I've since graduated and about to embark on my PGDE Secondary journey this week. I'm almost 39 and super excited for the journey into teaching. Just wanted to say that your videos are brilliant!
Amazing!! Watch this space! I’m now in a place I’m hoping I can do more videos now that might help you specifically 🙏🏻🙏🏻
@@thescottishhousewife3670 fantastic, already looking forward to it.
I’m going to try this with my niece. She’s shutting down.

Hi there, I was wondering how to go about answering a question about what is the difference between teaching children and adults? Because I am teaching ESOL and working with adults but I would like to obtain PGDE primary teaching too. Thanks
I’m so sorry- I have just seen this! The difference between teaching children and older children (as I don’t have experience teaching adults per se) is that adults will likely have experience…this counts for a lot, experience on how to interact, how to behave, how to learn, how to ask questions, knowledge of personal space, turn taking, sharing, working as a team, working individually and so much more that children don’t. So as well as the teaching element there’s all of these other things to take into account. Figuring out how to teach children individually and collectively is one of the most challenging parts of this job. Hope that helps x
@@thescottishhousewife3670 Hi, Thanks for that. That absolutely makes sense and is a perfect answer. I watched your videos and finally got two offers for PGDE primary teaching this year. Thanks for your help and wanted to say that your videos and tips are amazing. x
That is so amazing!! Well done!!! Thank you so much for your kind comments x
Thanks for the video very informative ❤
Thank you 😊
Just started my pgde in Glasgow and wanted to say how greatly appreciative I am of your content. Your films were the reason I felt confident enough to apply last year. Thank you for being on TH-cam and sharing your experiences and knowledge ❤️
What a wonderful and kind thing to say!!! Thank you so much! It’s so appreciated! Congratulations on your place at uni xx

Hi, how many weeks did you go into the classroom for on one morning a week? Finding it hard to know how much experience I would need before applying:)
I went in for about 8 months, but I’m think the more experience you can get, the better. That being said don’t let the “lack” of experience put you off. It gives you a good understanding of what’s involved and let’s you know what is for you and where you think you can help/improve x
@@thescottishhousewife3670 thank you❤
OMG I could spend a small fortune x

Crisp editing and music. Pretty informative too. A drone video of the campus sounds like a good idea. Great job overall!
Thanks!!! ❤️❤️ unfortunately we can’t do any droning due to all the different laws and licensing 😫😫
Hi Julie, I've accepted a place to study the PGDE Primary at Aberdeen beginning Aug 22. Can't wait to get started!! Your videos helped a lot, especially for my interview prep. So thank you so much. One quick question, is there any sort of graduation at the end of the PGDE do you remember?
Hi, so sorry- it’s been a while since I checked. Congratulations 🎉 glad to have helped!! There was a graduation, in July I think 💭
@@thescottishhousewife3670 thanks so much. i'm unable to make my undergrad graduation ceremony this summer so it's nice to know i should have one in 2023 instead 😁
hi I had a question about diversity in schools I really struggled with this? any ideas? thanks
What are you thinking, what about it? The challenge of ensure all children are ready to learn? Or differentiation or behaviour management? Either way I’m happy to do a video on it. ❤️❤️
Thank you so so much!! So helpful and i really appreciate you making this video. What a fantastic role-model you are. xx
Awww thank you so much!! So kind!!!

so many good points you mentioned that I hadn't thought of, definitely will be incorporating some into my own answers for my interview next week, thank you so much!
Amazing!! Thank you- good luck xx
What a lovely video. Welling up with you. You've really motivated me. So true about the cheer leaders! Have you found that happy medium yet?
No 🙈🙈🙈 well...I have, I regularly take lunches and breaks and I don’t often have 12 hour days- I try hard to leave school stuff at school- but over lockdown...I, along with many others were working 16 hour days again 🙈🙈 but since being back there’s more happy medium xx
Looking back on this now, do you think there are anythings you would change or could cut out or back on to manage your time more efficiently? Trying to get my head round how to manage it all PHEW!!
I can be very much the same now- but I’m trying to create and build new resources- I will get to the stage where I will be reusing these and spending a lot less time. This was my experience because I wanted to make everything as engaging as possible (still do) but I think when you are working off someone else’s schedule (mentor teacher) that can pose it’s own issues too. So that can make things more complicated. I honestly think I go all out all the time because I love seeing the kids faces when they’re truly in the learning and loving it. I think I manage my time more efficiently now by looking at resources I already have (either me or in the school) and then adapting the lesson to the best way I can ❤️❤️
@@thescottishhousewife3670 Aw you are such an inspiration! It would be fab if you could go into further detail in a future video about the resources you've made, why and how you have used them xx
@@clairer9051 great suggestion!! I did do a few videos with a few resources that may help... you might find these two will and my Instagram too- I put things up on there too :) th-cam.com/video/rLy2rduqHEI/w-d-xo.html and th-cam.com/video/wPCTFZwNeho/w-d-xo.html

Do what you can, when you can- and being a mum makes you so much better at multitasking so actually when you think the “stress” is to come- you’re already all over that stuff!! Just do little and often and be REALLY kind to yourself xx

Wow. You are so inspiring, and obviously born to be a teacher! Thank you for sharing your experiences, and for highlighting important points in such a clear, concise point. I actually feel relieved, and more positive about my pgde primary interview planning (if i get one). Thanks.
Wow!! Thank you so so much!!! Such lovely kind words!! Thank you so much! Good luck! I hope it all goes well! ❤️❤️
any comments?

I live in the US and I wish had this kind of support, I`m in 11th grade and using a calculator for basic addition. I like to try in math but once I understand something it is gone the next day.
Hi Ricardo, I know it can be so frustrating, I think a lot of people are very hard on themselves because they can’t remember. I try to think about different ways to help children remember, through colours, Songs, anything! I’m not an expert but I really try hard to think of ways to help my pupils. My heart goes out to you, I hope you get the support you need 🙏🏻🙏🏻
I will try this !
Awesome! Let me know how you go x
You are such an angel for doing these videos, they are so helpful ❤️ xx
