Just listened to Southeast Missouri State University wind symphony play this last weekend. Was amazing!!!
Heard this tonight at University of Cincinnati CCM. The story behind the piece was told by the composer that it was written while processing the pain of the loss of his father. I lost mine earlier this year. This was truly a powerful and moving experience.
Playing this at Allstate band in a couple weeks!
Same here!!! AK?
@ YES! I’m clarinet what about you?
Playing this at Purdue University Fort Wayne soon! It’s definitely one of my favorites I’ve heard/been able to play. I don’t think I have heard of minimalism before this, so I’m pleased that this is my first. And the story behind it makes it all the more moving.
This is a gorgeous piece of art, I feel intense emotions, especially connecting to the story behind the song, I can feel what you were visioning making this song and this is art This song has changed my musical life, thank you.
I heard this performed by Interlochen’s World Youth Wind Symphony this summer, and I don’t know if it’s ever happened to anyone else, but sometimes, when I listen to music, it sounds so utterly perfect that my mind simply detaches itself from the world, and all that’s left is *music*. That happened when I was listening to this, and it was so perfect that it left me in tears. This piece is absolutely brilliant ❤️
Such a beautiful piece, it’s feels very ethereal and breathtaking. 👏👏When is the live premiere!??
thank you! December 2026...

Incredible, had to share with our Wind Ensemble students.
This is actually the most beautiful and complicated thing I’ve heard in awhile, is that a choir or is it somehow instruments??!!
Thank you! Just wind and percussion instruments!
We are so excited to perform this at Amador Valley this fall. Thank you Viet for this music.
Wow, what a coincidence! My school's top wind ensemble actually *just* performed this for their fall concert. Our band director is really amazing, so the piece sounded really beautiful!

Absolutely GORGEOUS, Viet! This is at the top of my list to program for all-state and top regional honor bands now. You have such a beautiful gift. Thank you for sharing it with us in such a heartfelt work.
Played in the world premiere of this piece at FMEA. It was such a fun and wonderful piece to play!
SAMEEEE, I was a horn player. What section were you in?
Cannot wait for this to be published!
Ever since I played your moth and deciduous, I’ve been practically hooked on your compositions, there’s something otherworldly about the pieces you write
I will be playing this piece in my high school band in two weeks! So excited! This is such beautiful and meaningful piece. Every day in band we want to rehearse this piece because we love it so much!!
good luck! we just played in carnegie hall with this music selection, it was such a surreal experience. you’ll do great!
@@maxpiano01thank you! That’s awesome!
My son played this recently at UK. Like the others in this thread it moved me greatly. Thank you.
I have a new appreciation for combs and credit cards.
His tuba concerto made me cry. In a good way. You really can't experience it on TH-cam. You have to hear it live.
It was amazing! You saw Benavidez do it?
probably one of the greatest pieces i’ve had the opportunity to play. -WVU symphonic band clarinetist
HOW!?!?!!? There's no way real instruments are playing on that level!!! Oh man, as a composer, I am soooo jealous 😖
This is wonderful. Your music provides a way for us to experience the beauty of life and the world. Thank you so much for creating that.
This is incredibly stunning! The skill and concentration required by the players is also so impressive! What a beautiful composition - looking forward to hearing more!
Absolute bliss. You continue to push the band world into new territory, Viet. Bravo.
So beautiful…. Ethereal…. Can’t wait to hear the whole Symphony!!!! 🙌🙌🔥🔥🙌🙌
I love how the ‘ripples’ and ‘echoes’ for effect are written into the composition via vibrato. If I’m describing it wrong, please forgive me. As a guitarist, one learns through effect pedals how to manipulate delay…with the hope of achieving the sonic expression of something like the ocean depths. It’s difficult to do. To listen to a composition that’s already masterful, and to then realize the effects are scribed and given to wind players to simply execute…is epic.
I love that effect as well! Definitely caught my attention. Parts of the music vaguely reminded me of Copland's "Quiet City," a favorite.
Absolutely stunning, Viet!
I just watched the TLU Wind Ensemble play this piece, and I had to come back for another listen. This is honestly the most beautiful piece I’ve ever heard, and I hope to make it into a college band to play pieces like these.
W diamond tide
Playing this in wind ensemble; congrats on the recent marriage! Wedding looked gorgeous <3
My son’s high school wind ensemble played this song recently. You would be very proud. Such a moving, relevant, yet timeless piece of music.
This song is so good
Fr
We are playing this in my high school all city band and it's beautiful
It sound like an orchestra with a delay and reverse delay effect! Congrats! I really like your music!
I find it absolutely astounding how someone can be going through such grief and hard times and use that to turn it into a work of art. The “falling leaves” description you gave fits this song perfectly. Bravo, Mr. Cuong.
Just played this a couple of weeks ago for the nassau-duval honor band, and I just wanna say thank you so much Dr. Bodnar for choosing this piece.
coolest song ever omg especially the horn rips near the end
My band teacher told us about this song today and its story behind it. It’s truly a work of art and probably one of the best pieces I’ve ever heard.
I was lucky enough to play the world premiere of this piece on clarinet, and my god, it’s one of my favorite pieces I’ve ever heard. Both from listening and feeling the melancholy but hopeful mood, and the technicality and methods used to create the sound effects from percussion, it’s a marvel of a work.
really gorgeous piece :)
My sister said she heard this piece performed by a school ensemble and i had to hear it for myself. As a string player, I am envious of the timbres a wind ensemble conveys. Great work!
I’m in hs and playing this at Carnegie hall! Super hard piece but it is so cool!
Beautiful, thank you for sharing!
Absolutely stunning!
Was it your intent for the glasses to sound as written or an octave lower?
