      That is the signal to stop the clock. In NFHS (US high school) matches, a stadium clock is used, and it is counting down from 40 to 0. That signal stops the countdown, which is important since once it hits 0, play stops dead, no continuation of a shot or anything.

    I think the yellow card was given for intentional pushing to the chest of the opponent, and the ejectable red card was for unsporting verbal dissent to a ref within earshot of hearing this unacceptable dissent.

    Love how the referee has control of this game. Right at the start of the video he wants to get the game moving. It looks like he motions the thrower to stop wasting time. Possible off the ball foul at 0:20, but white regains possession. Good advantage played. Excellent advantage shortly afterwards on the offside position. Yes, the player was in an offside position, but the goalkeeper got possession and played to his team, no need to stop play. The referee doesn't want to interrupt the players momentum in the gameplay. For the main decision in this video, it's often easy for referees to give a call for a player who falls down. This referee clearly has experience, just because the white player fell, doesn't mean they were fouled. In this case, it is the opposite. The white player clearly played the man not the ball. In fact, he doesn't get anywhere near the ball, and it looks like his only focus is on stopping the player's attacking momentum. The referee blows the whistle loud and strong for this reason, and you can see him immediately move to his chest pocket (where he keeps his yellow card). He also gets on scene rather quickly. (I also want to mention the AR in this situation. Good job getting close to the scene. He is no longer needed in his position, so he goes further up the field than normal to assist the referee. It also appears as if he motions to his chest pocket, suggesting a yellow card to the referee. He also stops black #17 from playing a quick free kick, and then steps onto the field as he knows play won't be restarting.) He meets the player half way, shows the card with confidence, and explains it briefly. Easy decision for him with the dissent as well. Good strong whistle blasts and trying to get the player to meet with him. The only thing the referee did wrong in my opinion is meeting with that team's coach at the end of the video. Explain it to the coaches after the match. As I have been told working games, "they are not entitled to explanations." If you want to explain, do it after the match. Doing it now only makes them more likely to show abuse and get angry, as started as the referee walked away at 2:14. The coach looks upset. This is obviously a high stakes match, making my point even more clear. Emotions are high. Putting yourself that close to the coaches right after a red card decision isn't the best option. Explain after the game, if they still care about it. Finally, meeting with the 4th official is good. Great officiating from everyone involved. These are referees with experience, confidence.

    • @bully3628
      @bully3628 ปีที่แล้ว

      On your point about talking to the coach, high school rules say the referee should explain yellow card decisions to the coach so the coach can correct the players action. I think it’s a stupid rule and can often lead to unnecessary conflict but that’s the rule.

    • @Raider025
      @Raider025 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      NFHS (US High School) rules actually require the referee to talk to the coach to give the reason the card was issued. Not necessarily explain why it was issued, just the reason (so, say, unsportsmanlike conduct [since this is NFHS] or delaying the restart). The issue with this required explanation is that it puts the referee in close proximity to the (probably clueless or willfully ignorant) coach who will, unless it is the most obvious decision in the sport, argue why this was a card or other situations weren't, or just flat out start dissenting. The reasoning behind explaining the card is for the coach to talk to the player to correct his/her behavior. Very rarely have I seen a coach actually discuss the issue with their player after receiving a yellow card. Usually, the player just gets put at midfield to be subbed back on at the next opportunity. So, in my opinion as a referee, this rule is pointless because it accomplishes neither of the stated objectives (helping coach to talk to player, and for player to cool down, hence the mandatory sub off of a player who receives a yellow). Worse of all, it puts referees close to the person most likely to vehemently disagree with a decision. Add in a tense situation or important match and you end up with coaches berating the referee who needs to, by rule, get close enough to talk.

    Both are yellow cards as the first one was the white uniformed player made no play for the ball but his actions were to get physically in the way of player with ball! Second yellow card was verbal language calling the referee a cuss word is not acceptable! Red card to that player and now white uniform team plays rest of the game down one player! Great job punk!
