    • @andybaptiste1086
      @andybaptiste1086 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Same here. That’s what I’m trying to figure out. I tried color filters but haven’t had any success with them.

    • @randallstewart1224
      @randallstewart1224 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The 23C, made in many versions over the decades, is a fine enlarger. It has a filter drawer above the negative stage which can be used to assemble a color balancing filter pack, but the far easier method is to use an accessory dichroic filter color head. This allows you to just dial in various degrees of color in the light source to balance your color printing. This color head replaces everything above the negative stage and uses a different light source. If you are just trying color printing and do not have the dichroic light source, you can find sets of color printing filters (Kodak CP filters), large enough to fill the filter drawer. You will need only the yellow and magenta filters. Each set has filters of varying density, so you can combine them to get any total density you need.

    • @randallstewart1224
      @randallstewart1224 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@andybaptiste1086 In RA-4 color printing, the rubber meets the road when determining the correct filter color pack or combination to get a properly balanced (colored) print. Everything else about the process is about the same as developing a color or B&W film. For RA-4, you never need the cyan filters. You never use any combination of yellow, magenta and cyan filters together, because combining "X" units of all three filters just gives you "X" of neutral grey, just adding density with no filter effect. Then, the pack of paper probably comes with a suggested starting filter pack for its use. Start there. Remember that adjustments are the REVERSE of normal thinking. So, If a test print/strip is too red, instead of removing 5 or 10 units of both yellow and magenta (red) from the light source, you ADD that to the filter pack. This makes the paper loose that color in response. I suggest fixing the color pack, then do a test strip over a range of exposure times. This will zero in on an approximate exposure. Then, use fix that exposure and adjust the filter pack in the enlarger to adjust the color balance. Repeat as needed. After that, you fake it till you make it.

    • @andybaptiste1086
      @andybaptiste1086 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@randallstewart1224I appreciate the help. I wish I was even getting red with my prints lol. I’m on my like 20th print and I’m only getting ranges of blue and pepper nothing else. No natural colors of the actual photo. I even added cyan after, just to see, even though you shouldn’t and that one did exactly what you said it would. Added grey. Hahah. If I could show you photos somewhere that would be amazing because I’m lost completely an I’m doing everything I’m supposed to do as far as I know

    This method is WRONG. You should check and adjust the focus on the INFINITY. You can do it indoors with a known good DSLR and a prime 50 to 80 mm lens . Its like a home made colliminator.

    • @BillLovesFilm
      @BillLovesFilm ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree with you! Using a known good camera and lens is way easier and more precise. I use an old focus screen from a junked TLR taped in as shown here, with some thin ink criss-crossing lines drawn on the matte side of the screen and taped with the matte side toward lens. That puts the drawn lines exactly in the film plane and produces a brighter and easier to focus image than wax paper. Then set the camera being adjusted onto a light pad with the back open and focus screen toward light pad (lens sticking up in the air). Then set a 50mm lens on the “good” camera to infinity (I use a manual focus film SLR) and hold that lens against the other lens looking straight into the other camera. You will see the lines on the focus screen, and the final step is to set infinity focus on the folding camera such that the inked lines appear perfectly in focus as seen through the good camera. Voila!

    For anyone contemplating doing this, I HIGHLY recommend getting a package of bamboo skewers from your local grocery store, Walmart, or dollar store. They have pointed tips like toothpicks, but come in much easier to handle 6" lengths (more commonly found in 10" lengths, though). They're great for scraping out the goo from crevices and will not scratch your camera. The usually come in packs of 100, are cheap and will last you a long time for these types of projects and others.
