I understand your disappointment... it felt a bit of a let-down myself. But it's the same in the novel. The author tends to leave too much to the reader's imagination, so the expected scene of at least a caring Jinshi sitting by Maomao's side as she recovers, or of him falling asleep with his head on the bed as he sits beside her (let alone any tenderness between the two) just isn't there. And I think that has a lot to do with Asian culture in general--they are not demonstrative of their feelings as much as we are in the West. We like seeing emotional scenes, because it confirms our assumptions about characters. But Japanese and Chinese cultures do not. Koreans are different, however--they don't mind showing some affection. But this is a Japanese production, and this is an EXTREMELY slow-burn romance. I've read all of the novels that have been translated (and am waiting impatiently for Vol. 13--October 14!!), and much of their relationship is more implied than directly shown. Although some of that may be shown in Season 2. Season 1 covered the first two novels (and the Manga is barely past Volume 4, I think...), so it is possible that they will only get through Vol. 4 next season. But by then, Maomao is more accepting of Jinshi's attention, even though she doesn't want to know too much--she still wants to live a quiet life away from situations that might cut it short. And she thinks she is below Jinshi in terms of status. She is actually not a low commoner as she claims; as Lakan's direct descendent, she naturally has a higher status. I've even read that she could be considered a princess of the La clan. So... that's her personal preference/choice. Her background in the brothel shapes much of her identity and thinking, which sometimes is frustratingly limited.

I get it. We didn't get to see Jinshi being emotional and freaking out over her injuries. We only got a second hand account from the housekeeper that he was giving the physicians a hard time about where to keep her and told that he was really worried about her. This is the difference between show and tell. We were told things happened, but it was never shown. So we feel let down. Can't really blame the anime, since this was what happened in the manga and novel. Instead, I blame the author for dropping the ball on this one.

Another amazing aspect that i loved was the use of the sound design. There were some scenes in the anime where there would just be no music, no unnatural or unnecessary sound effects, just pure ambience and the characters speaking. Watching frieren especially with headphones made it feel so much more immersing and is just such a joy to watch 10/10 the BEST anime i have ever watched.

Frieren’s score is so high there’s no way it could lower by like .4 to drop below FMAB without some kind of score manipulation, especially considering how long Frieren has been at the top.

It’s a good show and I like the flash back to show Frieren growth but it’s not a masterpiece. It is a predictable storyboard flow that reminds me of other anime series(like Slime).

I very, very, VERY rarely rate any piece of media 10/10. Whether that be a movie, anime, video game, album, etc etc etc. But Frieren is one of those anime that I rate an unquestionable 10/10. It literally does everything right. Music, animation, story, characters, setting, voice acting, themes and emotional resonance. It achieves exactly what it's going for on every level. Even for those who don't feel it's up their alley, even you have to admit that the sheer level of quality seeping through every aspect of the series is next level. I truly hope it keeps its spot as the highest rated anime of all time, it's VERY well deserved. In my book, this has become my favorite anime I've ever seen, hands down. I can't stop gushing over it.

This is better than some classics like Samurai Champloo and I love that anime, what a masterpiece!

Anyone remember Magic: the Gathering? A coworker offered to let me make a deck from his collection so we could play during down time. I made a swamp deck with mostly low level fighters with low attacks but quick to deploy. He had a fire deck that relied on high hit creatures that required a lot of build up. I gave him a death by a thousand little cuts before he could deploy a single attack 😆.

It’s really not a masterpiece. Solid anime, but please don’t just throw that word around.

I feel like not enough people are talking about the music, composed by Evan Call. He's the same person who composed the music for Violet Evergarden, and several other stunning soundtracks. A good soundtrack can really elevate the emotional weight of a scene, and stick in your mind for much longer.

I hate the way author overuses the word perfect. "three perfect episodes", "just how perfect that is" etc. perfect, is the peak, if it's perfect that means there is nothing in this universe better than the "perfect" thing. you cannot scale the perfectness, there is not a thing such as "I know I said that 27 episode had perfect pacing, but episode 10 had even MORE perfect pacing" perfect can't be less or more, perfect is the absolute state, it's the peak, it's the best

I disagree with 10. The flashbacks felt like they took too long to get the same point across like 3 times. Felt like a waste of time.

Ep 10 made it clear that hiding mana is the best strategy to fight against demons, but in this particular fight, it also mean Frieren can lure Aura to use her scale, avoiding constant combat with the deceased soldiers, which will eventually force her to use force, instead of releasing the poor guys souls, which she didnt want to do because Himmel told her not to becuse now Frieren has more sympathy for human’s emotion. All of these achieved with great story-telling, maximizing forshadowing and flashback scenes, animation, music, so that at the end of this episode, it feels so satisfied, despite being a very one-sided slaughter, the defeat

these aren't even my three favorite episodes of the show. i loved the slice of life episodes WAY MORE.

Episode 10 is one of the biggest mic drops in anime history, and one that is rightfully earned instead of the usual "overpowered for no good reason protagonist one-shots enemy". Perfect build-up for Frieren to just turn around and walk away after ordering Aura to end herself, the demon being so beneath her that she doesn't even give her the courtesy of watching it happen.

04:52 Granted MAL isn't beholden to Japanese production commitees, but from what I've gathered about how anime is produced, technically you don't have x seasons of gintama (or some other long running series) but x number of shows that "happen" to share same name. And season numbering. That's why they couldn't be lumped together. Or something

i have been saying this for a time now Frieren doesn`t have the best STORY, its not even that good. But the execution of the anime, pacing, timing, direction or production is the first 10/10 i have ever seen.

Great editing and cool vid. Respectfully, script your videos more or at least have organized keypoints you want to go over, because you turned in circles a lot and got repetitive. Sometimes it felt like my head was gonna explode and all I could hear was ''You can perfectly see the perfect pacing is perfectly paced because the pacing was perfect". Like, 5:49 bro omg what is that
