    is Cullen really the issue? wasn't he part of the coaching team that shaped the best attack in Europe? Are the problems not obvious after a season? Out half is the big problem . The other , to me, obvious thing, is that the focus on the Nienaber defence has created a different shape to the team which seems also to be impacting attack.Its also giving very obvious attack points for other teams at the top level. No offence to Glasgow who are a quality team but the fact they beat the Bulls in the final in Pretoria illustrates those points about Leinster even more.

      SA players certainly not seen as under rated by me and that's for sure. Plus you're assuming we had this debate on the back of just one result when we clearly state that it is after a series of Leinster results against French and even other Irish clubs.

      @@HarpinOnRugbyYT: Thank you for the reply. I hear and understand what you're saying. Let me take a step back. As a South African, I have experienced quite a bit of animosity toward the Springboks' chances to win the Rugby World Cup. It was mainly South African pundits who gave the Boks a chance. French, Scottish, irish and New Zealand pundits did not even mention us as possible victors in 2023. Every bit of innovation that Rassie applied was severely criticized, such as the Bomb Squad and the 7:1 split. Ian Foster, the New Zealand coach, is still upset about the way we played and beat New Zealand in the Rugby World Cup. Warren Gatland continues to take stabs at us. I watched almost all the shows and clips. I think Lawrence Dallaglio and Eddie Jones were the only ones I came across who thought the Springboks were going to win and complimented the Boks on their innovation and the difficult road they had to overcome. Even Richie McCaw didn't mention us. For some reason, very few gave us a chance. That sentiment has carried over to the United Rugby Championship as well. The South African teams are often considered substandard, and it comes as a huge surprise if we win. Maybe my skin is a bit thin, but many European and other international teams (especially New Zealand) always attribute our victories to luck, things unnecessarily going wrong for the other team, the referee, or the way we play, etc. I understand that after all the success Leinster has had, a very close look needs to be taken at why it is not like that anymore. Sometimes, one just needs to admit that the other guys were better. There wasn't much we could have done about it. It's time to reset and start building again.

      @@friedrichredelinghuys4003 This isn't about South Africa dude. I know that something not being about South Africa is a difficult concept for some Saffas to get their heads around. Incidentally, I don't know anyone underestimating the SA teams or think they win by luck. If I may generalize, the rugby culture of SA seems to demand a permanent chip on the shoulder that is good in one way in that it shows passion and gets the siege mentality going but can get pretty bizarre when everything is seen as revolving around SA and their teams. Leinster are allowed to be disappointed with their performance without underestimating the Bulls at home, which is not easy. Any team with the resources Leinster has expects to win and that is the standard, it's not arrogance. Actually I find a lot of bitterness towards Leinster specifically and accusations of arrogance that wouldn't be directed against a French or English team with similar resources, almost like Irish teams should say "Gee I hope we somehow win this game" every time. This is our chip on the shoulder.

    Maybe he should be Director of rugby, not coach. When coaches or CEOs of organisations start losing in whatever way, or losing the touch, the underlying causes are often multiple, subtle and hard to ID. You then get debates like this one with everyone sitting on the fence after moaning but then saying it’s not personal et al. Sometimes it’s best to bite the bullet. Leinster lost at home against the Bulls 2 years back with Lancaster and they lost to Larochelle so they look pretty much the same. Since SA joined the URC Leinster started losing big games 2 semifinals again the Bulls in 3 years. If I look at Irish rugby I would say it's pretty much the standard to lose big games.

    As a South African, here is my thoughts. Leinster is one of the best club sides I have ever seen. Their depth is unbelievable. I put them right up there with the Crusaders with Carter and McCaw and the Bulls team from 2007 to 2010. Their lack of success over the last three seasons is unbelievable. I think their biggest problem is how they rotate their players. Nienaber will never do it the way Leinster is doing it. Look at how it worked at the Springboks. In 20 test matches leading up to the world cup South Africa used 54 players. They only played the same starting 15 twice in consecutive games. At the same time they only once made more than ten changes to the match day 23 and they list that game. When they rested players they still kept many or most of their first choice players in the team. It builds confidence in your second string players. Rassie always said if you are good enough to be in the squad you are good enough to start. Leinster need to build that in their team. This is the third year since we have joined the URC and Saturday was the first time most of the Leinster top players played at Loftus. I don't care how experienced you are going to a new stadium especially at altitude is something else. Our fans are also not the friendliest, but unlike the French they do speak enough English for players to understand. Leinster had enough games in South Africa in the last three years to have given all their players a game or two in South Africa. The fact that they didn't is mind-blowing. They either don't rate the SA teams which will be strange seing that they lost in a playoff against the Bulls in Ireland and SA teams have hosted the last two URC finals. Had Leinster send better teams to South Africa during the log phase they never would have had to travel to Pretoria. The mighty Crusaders have lost every semi final they played at Loftus. That should have been enough of a warning.

    • @HarpinOnRugbyYT
      @HarpinOnRugbyYT 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The only way I'd push back is that there was a reason for not sending strong teams to SA, namely prioritising Champions Cup. When the team is fighting on two fronts, plus when you have several players who featured in the attritional Six Nations, tough decisions need to be made. I do agree that sending stronger teams South would have helped our URC position though.

    • @wlk2408
      @wlk2408 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@HarpinOnRugbyYT I get your point. Personally I hope it changes. I will love nothing more than seeing a top Leinster side playing against our teams. As a South African I get the prestige behind the Investec Champions Cup. Our teams still have to get use to playing ten games more per season than was the case with Super Rugby. Two questions if you don't mind. Is winning your league less important than winning the Champions Cup? What is the chances of winning both in the same season now that the SA teams have made the URC more competitive?

    • @Ian-gj1gw
      @Ian-gj1gw วันที่ผ่านมา

      I don't think it's a lack if respect for SA teams, I think it's the opposite. What I gather from it is that they reckon we've done well enough through the rest of the season that we can eat losses to the SA teams away and still be ok. This means we avoid putting our stars into a massive battle where we risk injuries and at best just win some more points and at worst risk injuries and come away with losses anyway. It's a coward's way out really. And it robs the A team of experience against the Bulls and Stormers, which would be pretty flippin handy in finals and semi finals. The lads are basically going into a semi-final away against a team they have next to no experience playing against. It's a bad strategy, but if they insist on doing it, they need to send a half-star team so they can eat the loss but still get a feel for the opposition.

    • @wlk2408
      @wlk2408 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@Ian-gj1gw I agree. I think a better rotation will be to rest half the team. The Springboks did it perfectly and they managed to use 54 players in 27 tests matches. The "second" string players also benifit because they play with quality and experienced players around them and they learn from them how to handle things. However if Leinter get it right they might be unbeatable and we don't want that do we? 😁

    Leinsters beautiful hive minded attack has gone , pretty much all season, Leo has had ample time and resource's to replace Sexton , which he has failed miserably to do, his choices of resting the International players has cost the club dearly. He needs to go, it is a business and Leo is failing to deliver. Leinsters are looking their poorest they have been for many years. The A team simply are not playing enough Rugby as well as coaching issues and bad management calls. The saying 3 strikes and you are out is so relevant in Leo's case, we don't need a fourth strike. Andy Farrell has a job and a half to get something out of these Leinster players in a few weeks time against South Africa, which looking at them now looks like an impossible task. Stuart Lancaster had this team flying with beautiful Rugby and the Top job should have been offered to him and Leo retired. Again, it is a business and with the amount of resources at Leinster's disposal there is no excuse to hold on nostalgia.

    The stand and sling 10 is finished. The Byrne brothers are like robots and there’s a reason why our attack can’t function with them. Leo, Nienaber, McBryde and O'Brien all need to go. The defensive system works when you have an endless supply of roided up 150kg monsters and 3 Usain Bolts out wide. It doesn't work when you abide by the rules and don't use PED's. The work around contact has been frankly abysmal. O'Brien is responsible for that. Our maul is the worst in the URC. Our scrum is farcically bad and has been for years. McBryde shouldve been sacked 2 years ago let alone now. Leo will always be a club legend. But enough is enough. It is very disappointing to have lost 3 consecutive Champions Cup finals narrowly to the best teams in Europe. However, it is an absolute shame and disgrace to have not made a final in the URC since its inception. The winning culture needs to be fostered in the league first and foremost. Leinster were in a state of flux this year with the departure of Sexton and Lancaster and the late starts of Nienaber and Goodman. Focus needed to be narrowed to the league this year. With more time for the new coaches and an infusion of new players next season Leinster would be better placed to compete in both competition, and they could be going in as league champions. Cullen has to answer for that.

      @mylovelyhorse17754 neither Milne nor Clarkson are progressing at the rate needed to push Porter. Culane just isn't being given a shot to just Doris/VdF. The system is log jammed with the likes of Deegan, Sorka, and Penny, who just aren't pushing for playtime in big games but are holding the team back by nit offering true depth. Some of the key young backs have had poorly timed injuries, too (Tommy O'Brien). Leo refuses to give Foley the bench spot over McGrath, yet McGrath is such a poor player. He doesn't even do his own job on the field. Rewatch the match and see how often he's standing next to a scrum, and another player is taking SH duties instead of him. He honestly single handedly cost Leinster that game. I can't wait for a time when Sam Prendergast, Andrew Osborne, Jamie Osborne, and Jimmy O'Brien all get to play together because those Kildare men are showing the rest how to play as it stands.

      @alankennedy3747 yeah it's his dad. It's no major secret. The issue isn't even the kicks to touch instead of taking 3s. So instead he gets nearly no distance on the kicks to touch, and makes the packs life harder by extension.

All of those were very difficult losses to take. One thing I have said since last year is that Ross Byrne is not good enough. Leinster's attacking play did regress, and one of the reasons I think is that you never had a settled center pairing. This may have been due to injuries as well. One plus for Ireland is Bundee Aki. It seems therenis a reluctance to discuss the obvious with Leinster and IRA for that matter. Leinster was beaten this weekend by n sly fox coach and his tactics. The Bulls were hungrier... It seems IRA and Leinster success leads them to believe they deserve to be in the final... They probably had the final vs Munster already planned in their minds. This is why they are incapable of winning these games. A hungrier opponent will win most of these times as history has proven. Now why not discuss the officiating of the game. That was atrocious and i would have been embarrassed had my team won like that. You MAY also comment if it is this blatant.

    3 years in a row now, making the same mistakes over an over an expecting different results, leo has to go, an of coure so should mister 14 week defence, 14 weeks me hole the defence is the worst its been in years, the team is as bad as its been since the mat o connor years, attack now, non existing. Glad hes going, not so much that he's going to Ireland. Its the coaches fault look at what andy can do with basically the same player for ireland. at least last year we where good to watch while winning nothing. Ive never been bored or turned off as many games with frustration year, box kick after box kick, knock on after knock on cause we never play the same bloody team two weeks a row.

    Funny how Irish pundits keep overestimating the strength of Leinster's bench. Two years ago already, before the Leinster v LAR final, O'gara was saying their analysis showed that Leinster was losing games in the final 20 minutes. This doesn't seem to have change this year judging by the extra-time against Toulouse.

      I think if Frawley had played more time at ten over the last few seasons he would have been a legitimate alternative to Jack Crowley in the Irish set up. Munster backed Crowley and he got the exposure he needed.

    I'd wonder are the players getting too much discretion, Byrne should have been hooked off before that kick and where was the message to have some respect and take the points when on offer.
