Short review of one of my favorite tents. I bought it for a backpacking trip 5 years ago. I use a different tent to backpack now, but still love this tent for car camping.

Nice tent.. you said the dimensions are 96x96 inches. Are you sure it’s not 96x90? I’m only asking because I’m going to buy one and I’m not sure if you have a different version than what’s out for sale now.

UPDATE - I was camping in this tent earlier this week. It was completely staked down, including guy lines. A storm rolled in as I was preparing to drive off. Next thing I knew the tent was gone. It blew about 150 yards, tumbling the whole way. I was able to retrieve the tent. The stakes were all still in the ground and the guy lines on the side where the storm came from were still attached to the stakes, the attachments had been torn off the tent. The Tent suffered a number of tears (to the rain fly and interior netting) from tumbling across the field next to where I was camped (in a state park). The poles were all bent as well. I have to send it to NF for a warranty evaluation to see if it is covered. Very disappointing as there were a number of other tenters in the area that all withstood the conditions easily.

Thanks, good to know. I was hit by a windstorm in Banff a few weeks back and my ancient Walrus shed wind like a champ. I wanted something bigger, though, and thought this Wawona might do the trick. Your review has convinced me to keep looking. Much appreciated, and happy trails!

Recently had this tent out in Colorado, at elevation, with my wife. With two people it’s pretty tight and the condensation issues were significant. My foot box was very wet. Otherwise, still think it’s a very good tent for the money.

I’ve used this tent several times since I purchased it. My favorite thing about it is how easy it is to set up. I have two other tents that are lighter, but are trekking pole tents. It is much harder to get a good pitch with those and they take a lot of nuanced adjustments. This one goes up very quickly and needs almost no adjustments once it’s pitched. Taking it out this weekend to RMNP and will share it with my wife. I’m interested to see how it works with two people. I bought a 20 inch wide pad, so we will see how that works.

Okay - I have just returned from a backpacking trip to RMNP in Colorado where I used this tent. I did fix the tensioners on the two corners where the line was installed upside down and they then worked fine. I also watched a video from Six Moons about this tent and they recommend that you face the back of the tent into the wind - that would take care of my concerns, in regard to the vent in the front, as long as the wind didn’t change directions on you. It rained, on and off, the first night I used it and the seam sealing did it’s job, no leaking. As I mentioned there is not a lot of headroom because of the dramatic pitch of the tent in the back. It is adequate, but not great. There was a significant amount of condensation - welcome to a small, single walled tent. I kept a little rag in there and dried off the interior walls a couple of times. Now, to be fair, it did rain a lot that night so the relative humidity was in the upper 90 percent all night. It also dropped into the 30’s so the warm air I was exhaling hit the cold tent fabric and created some significant condensation. I mention it, because the back and both sides drop, as I mentioned, very dramatically; so when I turned over (I’m a side sleeper) my shoulder and feet often rubbed the inside of the tent. So, by the time morning came my quilt was pretty wet on the outside. Wouldn’t have been a big deal if the sun had come out and I could have left my bag out to dry, but it did not. I left my backpack in the vestibule and it stayed as dry as it could sitting on the ground. All-in-all, given that I can’t imagine being out in any worse conditions I would say that the tent performed quite well. I’m 6’2 and 190lbs and I do not think if you were much taller than me that you would be very comfortable in this tent. If you have experiences, with this tent, that are significantly different than mine, I’d love to hear about them. - THX - Dave

Hi Dave. Thanks for this this review. I just got a lunar solo and seam sealed it today, noticing that one or two of the tensioners are upside down. Am encouraged to know that they are fixable. Did you just rethread the cord through it?

I have also used this backpacking in Colorado. It’s a great tent. It sets up easily, has plenty of interior room (for one person) and had no issue with condensation. Highly recommend.

I have now used this while backpacking in Colorado. I continue to be impressed with it and have found that the more I use it the easier it is to set up and get a proper pitch. For the money, useable space it has, and weight I think it is a great backpacking tent.

I got this tent for bikepacking as well. I plan on trying it out in the Spring. Surprised they didn't do a better job with seam sealing. Hope it works out for you. Happy Holidays.

I spent two nights in this tent over the weekend. I found it to be sturdy and comfortable. I would not want to try and set it up in the dark as it definitely takes some time to get it set up properly. Also, the condensation was not a significant issue at all. Overall, I was very pleased and look forward to using it again.

Used this on my backpacking trip to Eagle Rock Loop. It worked great. After lots of miles of up and down mountains it was nice to be able to use this to air up my pad. I also loved being able to hang it and use it as a light in my tent. Well worth the money and added weight in my opinion.

The tent performed very well. We were out for four days and three nights. It rained on us two of those days, but the tent kept me perfectly dry. Because I was using a Gossamer Gear Mariposa the tent fit perfectly in a long deep side pocket. The tent broke down and set up quickly. In the am, when the tent was wet, I just shook it off and stuffed it in the bag. The pack fit well in the vestibule with my hiking shoes which were wet and dirty, plenty of room. Overall, I’m very happy with this tent.

So I was wrong, there is one interior storage pocket. I found it when I had it out last week. Also, there was a significant thunderstorm, with high winds and heavy rain. The tent performed flawlessly.

Pretty good video this and love that you put a proper sleep system in, to show that there isn't actually as much room as people say! You need to film so you get full screen/landscape though.
