Recreating Pinterest outfits but being realistic about it
Follow me on Instagram: louise.wears

In today’s video I am going to be recreating Pinterest outfits. My relationship with Pinterest is a bit complicated because, as you may know from some of my previous videos, I don’t think that gathering outfit inspiration from there is always the best idea. Now I may be a bit of a hypocrite, but I actually do use Pinterest frequently. I still stand for what I said in those videos, but I want to clarify that Pinterest IS a good platform for sourcing inspiration and using the images on there as a starting point. I just don’t think it’s a great idea to copy anything off there straight off the board. For me, it's all about identifying what I like about the image, dissecting it and putting my own spin on it.
If you enjoyed today's video it would mean so much to me if you liked this video and subscribe to my channel! Let me know in the comments down below which outfit is your favorite? 💕 Do you use Pinterest for outfit inspiration?

    I really like this type of videos, especially because sustainability is still overlooked in fashion. Recreating outfits with what you have instead of finding the exact same piece has to become the norm. And also, as you said, makes these outfits more unique.

I stick to mid level brands and would never spend more than $500 USD on a handbag and as much as I love shoes I spend less than $50 USD unless its trainers or my go to work shoe.

    I agree so much! I loved scrolling pinterest for outfits and got frustrated by how they looked on me oftentime. A) My bodyshape, meaning that still majorily skinny size 2 girls outfits are seen on pinterest. Of course it will look a little different on different bodyshapes. B) As you mentioned, the pictures in itself. Comparing yourself in the mirror, where youre moving to a standstill picture of an outfit, somewhere in a fancy scenery which probably needed several tries and might even be retouched, is simply nonsense. So what I do now, even though I quit my pinterest habbit is looking for specific items that keep coming up in outfits I like, shoes or a specific type of bag and going on vinted/depop to buy that item rather than recreating a whole look.

    If you only buy items on sale, you can end up with wardrobe of clothes that are uncoordinated, outdated, extreme and just difficult to make work. Do a full inventory of your clothes starting with shoes belts and handbags, line them up according to colour. Photograph them. Then do the same with your clothes. Then you can see what items can be matched and where the holes in your wardrobe are. Make sure you are buying the best colours according to you skin undertone type/season. Don't buy colours that are not suitable for this skin tone, or at least make sure it's correct for wearing near your face. Everyone needs a certain amount of classics, basics, and neutrals. Work out what they are and then buy those. Paying full price is going to be rewarding if it turns your wardrobe into a workable set of choices, and help you look your best.

    • @LouiseWears
      @LouiseWears หลายเดือนก่อน

      Couldn't agree more with you! Especially the part about uncoordinated items - if you buy each piece spontaneously then you will just end up with so many random things that don't go together! Love doing an inventory as well, that has helped me out so many times. Thank you for all of these great tips :)

    • @LAinspired
      @LAinspired หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don't think that has anything to do with buying on sale though. What you're talking about is spontaneous purchasing. You can buy capsule clothing and workable clothing on sale. But that's if you know what you like, what looks good on you, and what you know will last a long time in your closet. If you don't, then like you said, you'll end up with a bunch of random stuff you don't really want. You just have to shop carefully, even during a sale.

    • @deborahcurtis1385
      @deborahcurtis1385 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@LAinspired True, and I do shop carefully most times! Sales are an opportunity to expand your wardrobe in an interesting way. It can inject the fun into your wardrobe. As long as it's disciplined. Otherwise a bargain is not a bargain if it's not being worn. Or if it doesn't make you look good. I've got a pair of lime green ribbed woollen pants that I wear each winter. They cost me $20 decades ago and they look great with a black mohair hand knitted sweater, a black patent belt worn on the hips, and low black boots. The green is out of fashion but that never fazes me because it simply works. Plus it's warm. Very plain clothes don't do much for me I need high contrast. But I do have a lot of basics. I got a Zac Posen coat at Target many years ago and it's dark brown and fantastically designed it flares out and it cuts the wind amazingly. I hesitated at the price it was $190 and not on sale but it's been absolutely fantastic. True designer quality. It's important to get fun out your wardrobe but it involves disciplined shopping and considering carefully what you already have and what suits you. That said I've got several fake fur vests and thinking about getting another. It's a great winter look for me and I wear those around the house as well as going out. A lot of people get stuck in their style but I find thrifting, shopping in sales and just keeping in touch with what's happening, to be the fun side.

    • @deborahcurtis1385
      @deborahcurtis1385 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thinking of getting a real wool sheepskin vest I mean. Which is more expensive but the style works for me. This is also a tactic you can try out a style in a cheaper form and then upgrade if it works for you. I'm getting it on sale of course. It's enormous fun! It's like a sport for me!

    The big bags look amazing, but my scoliosis could never. I'm very impractical in the sense that I have to bring everything with me just in case even if I don't end up using it, so I use backpacks. I know it makes me look less elegant, but I've tried big bags over the shoulder when I was around 20 and the back pain was not worth it :D I always admired people who are able to leave the house with very little stuff, but when I leave the house, I'm not coming back till evening (I use public transport) and I have to accommodate for the changes of temperature, bringing my water bottle, laptop, a snack, my reusable cup for coffee and a power bank and suddenly my backback is 5kg :D

    Thank you for your video! It was very nicely done! I'm also definitely an emotional shopper. 99% of what I buy is thrifted and quite cheap, which takes away a lot of the shame of overspending and makes the problem harder to spot. I have also been hiding the receipts and packages from my husband, which was when I realised that it's probably not a very healthy behaviour. I'm now trying to sort out what I don't wear and de-clutter my home. I think that one interesting thing that I noticed about my shopping personally is that I see a piece of clothing and invent scenarios that I would live through in that one beautiful dress - sort of expecting the garment to change my life in a way, to make me feel a certain way. I just realised that I haven't really talked about this problem in therapy, and also that with my previous therapist I felt like a needed to reward myself for the session, so I immediately went to the thrift shop next door and almost always bought something (this isn't to say that she made me feel this way, it was just a lot of work and the shop was there). Fortunately my new therapist doesn't have a thrift shop nearby :D
