O'Rourke cooks

People have been telling me for years to make cooking videos, so I've decided to give it a try. My goal is to show that you don't need a fancy kitchen or a ton of expensive equipment to eat good, cheap and easily prepared meals. Although I'm not a chef, nor a videographer (have a heart in the comment section), and my kitchen layout isn't set up for quality video production, I'll try my best to give you ideas that are better and healthier than eating "fast food".
I have some old videos I'm going to put up until I can start filming. We'll see how it goes...

Tacos! @orourkecooks #homecooking #tacos
Homemade tacos are the ultimate, easiest and greatest (in my opinion) things there are for home cooked meals. Easy, cheap (depending on the ingredients), fast and above all, fun!! There is an unlimited combination of flavors. Beef, pork, chicken, shrimp, vegetable, hard shell, corn tortilla, flour tortilla, small street style, huge versions, and on and on... all it takes is a little imagination! You can make from not so common things like beef tongue, tripe, goat, chitterlings to chicken breast, beef, vegetarian, any type of seafood, etc... it's literally endless! I implore you to use your imagination and just go for it. It won't suck, I promise!!

Oyster stew (simple version) @orourkecooks #homecooking #seafood

Oyster stew. This is a really simple version of a classic dish. I got this from my mom who is 87. She told me she got it from her mom, who got it from a pamphlet given to her from a "pots & pans" salesman 80 years ago (she still has the pamphlet!). Hopefully you'll make it and share it with your friends! @orourkecooks www.orourkeleather.com john@orourkeleather.com
Liver pâté @orourkecooks #homecooking #french

Although this is my version of a soft pâté, you can have fun with it and make it yours. It's really easy. I've made it with about every type of liver available where I live, and like most everything I make, I rarely follow recipes. Usually I make it with leftovers, except chicken livers. I always do them purposely from scratch. @orourkecooks www.orourkeleather.com john@orourkeleather.com
Homemade turkey salad sandwich @orourkecooks #homecooking #american

Homemade turkey salad sandwich. Great way to use up leftover turkey. Easy to make and tastes great. You can really get imaginative with this. Add a hard boiled egg, or a little bacon, different spices, a touch of mustard, etc. One I really like is adding a tart apple. Give it a try! @orourkecooks www.orourkeleather.com john@orourkeleather.com

Homemade banana peppers and ham sandwich. Filmed with my phone because I still haven't figured out the new camera. I make this all the time. It's one of my favorite sandwiches. Fast, easy, tastes great and pretty healthy. @orourkecooks www.orourkeleather.com john@orourkeleather.com
Homemade rustic bread grilled cheese sandwich @orourkecooks #homecooking #american

This is a practice video I filmed with my phone. I was playing around with speedups etc. I put it here because maybe someone can get some ideas from it. The bread was homemade and I used American and provolone cheese. Great sandwich! @orourkecooks www.orourkeleather.com john@orourkeleather.com

Homemade smoked salmon sandwiches. I filmed this on my phone once again (unfortunately) . If you look in the background, you can see my new camera on the tall tripod. I really need to take the time to learn how to use the software for it. Anyway, this is a really easy sandwich to make and although it's not for everyone, if you like fish, you should give it a try. @orourkecooks www.orourkeleathe...
Polenta @orourkecooks #homecooking #italian

Homemade polenta. Polenta is nothing more than boiled cornmeal. You can serve it soft or firm the way I've shown here. It's a pretty good substitute for pasta, like serving it soft with meatballs and tomato sauce, etc. I shot this video with my phone, so although it's rudimentary, it's still fairly informative. You can always email me if you need a polenta suggestion. @orourkecooks www.orourkel...
What a classic!
I like this with some chopped leeks, garlic and shallots cooked in the butter. Tastes like a million bucks but cheap and easy
I haven't tried that but I certainly will! Thanks for sharing your version!! I just bought some leeks. I'm thinking about a leek and potato soup video.
@ Good call, that’s another ‘dead simple but tastes expensive’ staple. One of the first soups I learned to cook.
I'll have to try this. I make chicken liver pate very similar with a bit of mayo and onions.I sometimes add white wine or cognac.
Chicken liver is definitely my favorite variation of this!
I've done the same thing many times! Pretty darn good.Like you said, you can add a little celery, onion, Tabasco, etc., or keep it just like this. Thanks for the post!
Thanks for watching, and the positive feedback is very much appreciated!
Yeah , my recipe is butter than soften up the celery and onion. I also dice up some potatoes and steam them and add those along with a little corn.. I than add Worcestershire some old bay and cayenne for a little heat. I also go straight half and half. It's a hardy chowder I guess.
@@werper09 That sounds great!!
Stumbled across your channel looking for videos on canning peppers. But what ended up happening is i got hungry and made a sandwich as well. Unfortunately, I didn't have whole fresh peppers. Just vlassic banana pepper rings. But it makes a great sandwich! Appreciate you and hope your hand heals soon! Best wishes to you.
Hand is doing well, thank you!! If you like peppers on a sandwich, give peppers and eggs a try (I want to do a series on egg sandwiches). Most of the time when I can peppers, I pack them tight in a jar and fill to the brim with white vinegar. No pressure cooker or boiling. Really easy. Thanks for the great comment, much appreciated!
tried it and it taste good tbh keep it on dude
Excellent!! Glad you liked it! 👍👍
Looks good, Left !!

Hi, i was looking for the matzah bread recipe and came across this. Extremely good alternative! Highly recommend!
