Old Fart Playing Old Games
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 12 ก.ย. 2020
I'm just an old fart that loves to play classic games on the old consoles. I'll admit most of my games playing is on emulators, but I'm poor, so deal with it! Now, you kids get on my LAN! If you have any homebrew games or accessories you'd like me to review or have any requests for games to see, contact me at: oldfartplayingoldgames@gmail.com
Let's Watch: Atari Jaguar Commercials
The Atari Jaguar is a home video game console developed by Atari Corporation and released in North America in November 1993. Part of the fifth generation of video game consoles, it competed with the 16-bit Sega Genesis, the Super NES, and the 32-bit 3DO Interactive Multiplayer that launched the same year.
While I don't remember seeing any Jaguar commercials on TV back then, they made them. I'm quite sure that some of the commercials would trigger some viewers today and would be yanked from rotation.

Sure, there are several pokes in the code, likely setting up machine code for the game, but it i...
Commodore 64: 1983 In-Store Sales Cartridge

Back in the early 80s, it wasn't unusual to see displays in department stores like K-Mart, Sears, and other stores promoting home computers. Nearly every popular 8-bit computer at the time had an in-store demo that would usually run until a potential buyer touched the computer's keyboard. This is the Commodore 64 Sales Cartridge.

100% COOL!
5:41 Those are the first clips I've seen of TV Sports Baseball-would have been a great addition to the U.S. lineup!
I loved the TV Sports games, especially Football. Played it on my Amiga.
Is it bad that I remember playing this game? Showing my age now LOL
I don't think it's written in BASIC. I think it's written in Assembler, but TYPED IN in basic. So you can write all the assembly code in basic using DATA statements and then when you run it will run the assembler program. Compute's Gazette in the 80s had a bunch of type in games where you would type in seemingly endless amounts of DATA lines with just hex numbers and then at the end you would save it, and then run it and it ran the game. What you would have to do is load the game and then type LIST, to list out the code and it probably would either be one or two lines of code that would call an address, or it'd be a bunch of DATA lines.
Yep, I mentioned in the video that there are a lot of pokes, which if I recall correctly, was how the C64 fed in the ML code. I remember how Compute Gazette did it, used a program called MLX to enter the codes, and it also let you know whether you entered the line of code properly. Helped avoid long debugging sessions, that's for sure. 🙂 Thanks for watching the video!
I am the author, this is pure BASICV2, no assembly. The data are for sprites
@@nellogaliano2666 Thanks for clearing that up. Great work.
Thank you@@oldfartplayingoldgames
I’m a bartender and this is basically every bad dream I have 😂
I had an IBM but never got a Commodore. I miss the old GW Basic games. Tapper is definitely a classic!
Yeah, it's one of those games that I keep coming back to play over and over again. I had a VIC-20, a C64, And Atari 130XE, and then an Amiga before getting my first PC. Thanks for watching the video, Patrick.
Always loved "Burger Time"! Very cool seeing it like that.
I'm looking for some more magazine game clones. I know either ANALOG or Antic had a Tempest clone that was quite well done. Anyway, there is more to come. Thanks for subscribing!
Love the 7800. Unfortunately the commercials range from fun to really boring and flat. Thanks for putting them all into one place!
Zed ex Not zee ex Sorry👍
Zee Ex if you're in the U.S. like I am. :-)
They really stressed the "2-player" Double Dragon
"SEEGA!"
I've always loved playing this demo in the 80's around Christmas time. I think this is considered one of the C=64's first demos. Not counting the retail store demos. Glad one of your videos popped up this morning. Now you've given me a great new channel to watch. I subscribed right away. Hope your channel keeps growing. Us old farts need to keep 8-bit computers alive.
Fron one old fart to another, thanks for subscribing and watching the video. Feel free to let me know what types of videos you'd like to see in the future.
@oldfartplayingoldgames Sure if I think of a good topic idea I'll let you know. I javelin one C=64 video on my channel where I convert GIFS on my C=64. My friend introduced me to the Computer version GIF format in the early 90's. I now use the VICE Emulator but I found the GIF converter program and started taking modern day photos I've taken with my Canon DSLR and converting then on the C=64.
Once video games went past 16 bit. They lost thier charm from the late 70's to the mid 90's. Today's games are more like real life simulators. Such Call of Duty and etc..
Yes… except for some wonderful indie games that emulate (but also subvert) the old style. The Messenger is an absolute gem with some witty writing… and I’m really enjoying Sea of Stars from the same devs. Blasphemous, Slain and Valfaris are also amazing… basically what I hoped 32-bit systems were going to bring us, back in the day (instead of poor quality 3D). But these are exceptions to the rule.
@happyspaceinvader508 I wasn't referring to any indie games or games that replicate older looking 8 or 16 bit games. Those are awesome. Like Undetale. Created on modern PC yet looks like something you'd play on a Commodore 64 or an Atari 400/800.
@SchardtCinematic - Absolutely agree! In my eyes, the Super Nintendo was the last true game console (it took the 2D game play from the 70's and 80's to the highest degree of evolution in terms of graphics, audio and animation, while still staying true to what we knew as "video games"). Games today are more virtual reality simulations than video games. That's why to this very day, I still get hours of fun and enjoyment playing with my 8-bit or 16-bit consoles and computers (e.g. my C64, Apple IIe, NES, SNES, Vectrex, 2600, TG16, IIGS, Intellvision, etc) whereas I'm bored in 5 minutes playing any modern FPS games.
Wow. Completely forgot about the 3d glasses.
I remember using the SMS 3D glasses with my Amiga. I seem to recall that someone sold an adaptor that made them work with the Amiga. One app would convert images to 3D. There were some games too.
I actually stumbled across a pair of Sega 3D glasses at a thrift shop back in the late 90's (when it likely would've cost a buck or two!) and passed them up, because I didn't have a Master System. Now I do, and even have a CIB copy of Missle Defense 3-D. Just one of many times I wish I could go back in time and tell myself....BUY IT!
@@Apple2gs don't feel lonely. I still cringe at some of the deals I founs and passed on back in the 90s. Ah well!
"....And the first video games ever, in 3-D"? Come on Sega, the Vectrex console with its 3D headset accessory had it 3 years earlier! Didn't have a Master System growing up, but picked one up in the early 2000's and collected 17 games for it. Maybe I don't have the right games, but felt disappointing compared to the NES. Still happy to have one in my collection!
This would look way better with color and such with aliases set correctly. It's not supposed to be black and white.
I ran it on an emulator, I'll try running it on my 130XE or at least with different emulator settings for next year. 🙂
Nice Video ! Sub & Like ! And Love Retro Pacman Games !
Love all these console ornaments
At 0:47 can you imagine using one of those Atari's for "Stock Quotes" and Bank Access" back then?! lol
Space invaders games are like beers, some are good, some are not as good, different people prefer different ones, and sometimes the mood will hit to play different ones, for me I got into the series in high school playing some of the clones for the TI Graphing Calculators, they all hit in different ways, and I like the series for its timelessness
I've always enjoyed the various clones of Space Invaders. I especially liked TI Invaders for the TI-99/4a. It was a great version of the game.
Wow, This demo is over 40 years old and It totally sold me on my new ATARI system! Now, If only I could get my 800xl to work...
Good luck with getting it to work! I know how frustrating that can be.
@@oldfartplayingoldgames Yeah, I've had the thing for 2 years now and it still doesn't work lol
I wanna use it to trade stocks and access my bank account online at 0:47 ha-ha
I have that tiny controller! I used to use it to play emulation games on my cell phone at breaks during work!
It's a great little controller. I take it with me on trips to play on flights or in my hotel room. It's a little small for me, but it works great in a pinch.
Let's see. A computer thst also olays games and has about the same graphics as the Atari 5200? I'd pick thr Atari 800 than the 5200, because at least I can use an actual atari controller
I also preferred the Atari 800XL I had to the 5200. Hated the controllers on the 5200.
PB version.
The game has a major problem, when you accelarate the car remains to up on the screen so it is almost impossible to avoid the other cars that are coming
Not sure I'd call it a clone since Space Invaders Deluxe was a sequel to the original and was pretty popular in the arcades. I like both games on the Atari computer for different reasons, but the Roklan version is a great way to play the arcade-like version on the Atari, even if the barriers are really too big.
Yes, Space Invaders Deluxe (from Taito) was a sequel. This is Deluxe Invaders it's a different game and wasn't created by either Atari or Taito. Thanks for watching the video.
I ordered mine and said it would ship on the 29th of November. Looking forward to it.
How did you get this downloaded on your iPhone?
It's in the App Store: apps.apple.com/us/app/space-inraeders/id6443526652
If emulation is right and feel of the controller is right great to get a brand new perfect 2600 like new new new.exciting.(though I fear it will not be the same )
Great Looking Old Skooler For people who played in the early 1980’s
This makes no sense when you can get the Atari Game-station pro at Costco for $80 and install all the Atari Roms via an micro-sd card.. brilliant move followed up by this…
I think folks with a collection of 2600 and 7800 cartridges will appreciate the 2600+. I'm okay with my Retron 77 because I don't have any 7800 cartridges. I am definitely going to visit Costco this weekend if possible to see if they have the Gamestation Pro, I like what I have seen of it, and I definitely like being able to add roms on an SD card.
Was always one of my favourite games! This and BattleZone™️
Cool!
Awesome!
Interesting video title.
It's descriptive. 🙂 Thanks for watching it!
Whether this is worth while or not, to me, is going to depend entirely on quality and compatibility. If the rumors are true that lots of games won't work because of bankswitching issues or something, that'll make it much less worthwhile. But if the vast majority of popular games work, then obviously more value. And can they actually manage well-working paddles? Something that has not really been available (ie properly working) on any of the 'versions' of the Atari since the original. I loved the Atari paddle games, but haven't been able to find ways to play them well in decades.
Well I think you hit a few points, missed a few others, and may just may regret not getting this. Reasons for what I say: I have a CRT but don't like RF connections at all. I'm not a fan of modding for just a tiny upgrade in quality Next you mentioned should allow homebrew games. They will definitely have them available and most others out there except multi carts will work. Note, Atari of today, want to control the gaming experience completely. I don't blame them. The new console will do things our old fart consoles can never. Without a lot of money for upscalers to HD Next reason to, is that the system can be firmware updated via the USB C port. Most games may not be tested for release and marketing purposes. Getting these sold for the holidays release. Last reason for me for is that an advanced emulation, far advanced from the one Retron 77 used. As well as the dump system that will be superior. I can be wrong about the future of this one. But I do know that this is the final attempt by this Atari to survive. If we don't get a very good thing out of this, no one, not even the faithful will ever look again. This has to work. I'll be watching the outpouring of reviewers as soon as this falls into our hands. But the homebrews are going to work. At least a great amount of them. I say give them one more reprieve of execution.
Oh yeah!!!
Thanks for stopping by, Notorious RBG!
I will be looking to use it for my videos. There are some games that I want to see if they’ll work or not. I also want to see if the keyboard and driving controllers will work on it.
I hope they bring out the trackball controller again, I also want bezerk enhanced edition, I like cartridges not mame, I hope they release them again
Is there going to be lag in the paddles and joysticks like the Atari flashbacks???!
I sincerely hope not. We will see.
I want one, but it’s way too expensive and incomplete. 100$ with ALL games, 2 joysticks and 2 paddles sounds pretty good. Think they will sell out easy, or will these be discounted a year from now? I also wish it played the 400 games, because the cartridges that my cat didn’t destroy are some of my favorites.
So where do you get the game cartridges ? Are they making new ones ?
Yep! You can find the paddle controller and games here: atari.com/products/cx30-paddle-controller-bundle The Berzerk cartridge is available here: atari.com/products/berzerk-enhanced-edition Other cartridges are also available on the same site.
@@oldfartplayingoldgames I was thinking of going to my local flea market this Sunday just to see if they have old Atari cartridges
@@oldfartplayingoldgames I may get this new system just for bezerk and night driver
That's. great idea. I do that. I also check out retro record shops and such, as they usually have game cartridges. Facebook Marketplace and eBay are both some of my favorite places to check out, even though many of the sellers on there apparently think they're selling solid gold cartridges. :-)
I am really looking forward to playing the enhanced version of Berzerk. It was already one of my favorite games for the 2600.
Thank you for the post!
Thank you for subscribing! I hope you enjoyed the video!
Loved this game as a child for my Colecovision system
I've played it on several systems, but mostly on the Atari 8-Bit and Commodore 64. Such a great, solid game!
Wow 😮

Now that i saw this gameplay video, i might as well switch on my PlayStation 2 on my summer vacation in September and play the Atari 2600 games with these compilations, ACTIVISION ANTHOLOGY and ATARI ANTHOLOGY 😺👍🕹️.
